Fugitive Woman

Fugitive Woman
Unapproximate Sadness

Since the afternoon, somehow Kinanti's stomach hurt so much. Like all the muscles in his stomach contracting simultaneously. But it only happened for a few minutes and then disappeared. Kinanti did not understand but she was sure it must be related to the baby.

"Mom, why did my stomach from this afternoon hurt so much huh?" Kinanti asked Bu Manisah as the two of them were cleaning their cell room.

Manisah smiled happily. Kinanti caught it as a good sign for her pregnancy.

"Well, that means you're about to give birth soon, Ti. You don't sleep too well yeah, maybe tonight your baby will ask to be born." Said Ma Manisah happily.

Kinanti was very happy to hear that. Finally after the baby refused to come out for ten months, the twins would soon come out and see his mother.

"Later if you feel something is wrong, you have to wake me up, yes. Let me take care of everything." Bu Manisah said reassuring Kinanti.

Kinanti believed that Madam Manisah would take good care of her. So he was sure that everything would be fine. She will give birth to her twins healthy and be a happy mother even though she has to be locked up in prison.

That night, at twelve in the evening, Kinanti's abdominal contractions intensified. From that distance of an hour each contraction is now becoming more and more frequent. And in the end it was only ten minutes between his contracts. Kinanti panic. He woke up Ms. Manisah who was sleeping next to him and the old woman immediately woke up and swiftly faced Kinanti.

"What's up, Ti? Is your stomach hurting again?" Ask Ma Manisah.

Kinanti nodded weakly while grimacing in pain. Her stomach was getting sicker and she could already feel her baby getting down to the bottom. Manisah understood the signal. It soon awakens the other cellmates - Siti, Maimun, and Mitha. Bu Manisah asks Mitha to find the warden and tells her that Kinanti needs to be taken to the hospital right now. Mitha nodded in a sign of understanding and she immediately ran in search of the guarding warden.

Kinanti groaned in pain. It felt like all the bones in his body were broken simultaneously. Kinanti could only cry because she could not bear the pain.

"Prophey, Ti. We'll go to the hospital later. Your son will be fine. Don't worry." Said Ma Manisah trying to calm Kinanti.

Before long Mitha returned but her face looked gloomy. Mitha returned alone without anyone escorting her.

"Where's the warden, Mit? This Kinanti is already in a lot of pain." Maimun asked confusedly.

Mitha shook her head weakly.

"There's not a single person in the warden's office, Ma'am. Where else do I need to go?" Mitha said no less confused.

Maimun moved with annoyance. How can the guards be this negligent when they are aware that there are prisoners who are pregnant and need emergency care.

"Let's look in another post, Mit." Maimun shouted while running towards the south of the prison. The warden's headroom is.

Cold sweat soaked Kinanti's body. The contract does not stop anymore. Kinanti's body had screamed giving a signal that Kinanti should be taken to the hospital right then and there. And suddenly Kinanti felt a lot of liquid coming out from her bottom. Like urinating, her pants and legs are wet with a large amount of yellowish liquid.

Manisah's mom panicked. Kinanti is in a state of emergency and must be treated immediately by a doctor as soon as possible.

"Mom, why do I pee so much?" Ask Kinanti confused.

"Wire, Ti. Your membranes ruptured! You must be taken to the hospital immediately or your baby could be in danger!" Bu Manisah.

"How is this, Mom? My son's gonna be okay, isn't he?" Said Kinanti in a weak voice.

Manisah forced her smile. Trying to eliminate her panic as well as Kinanti's fear. But Ma'am Manisah knew the worst was in sight and only God could prevent it.

...****************...

"Doctor, help this woman Doc. It looks like she's about to give birth!" The female guard panicked.

The doctor who saw Kinanti's very bad condition was shocked. A few doctors and nurses quickly pushed Kinanti into the operating room and gave her treatment. Two hours passed and the doctor finally came out of the operating room.

"How's sister Kinanti doing, Doc?" Asked the female warden immediately ran to the doctor with Ms. Manisah.

The doctor shook his head. He breathed heavily.

"I'm sorry but the patient was brought in very late. When we examined it, the patient's amniotic fluid had long since dried." The doctor said carefully.

"Because it took too long to get treatment, both babies of the mother Kinanti experienced oxygen depletion when in the womb. By the time we dissected her stomach, the two babies were already in a lifeless state. And if it's a little late, maybe we'll also fail to save her mother." Call the doctor again.

Both Ms. Manisah and the female warden were aghast at what they heard. Kinanti almost lost her life and now also lost her baby. The female warden sat down. The look on his face showed a deep expression of guilt. He blamed himself for the deaths of two innocent babies. It was because of his negligence that all this happened.

"How can we tell Kinanti, Mom?" Asked the female warden while sitting on the long chair outside the room where Kinanti was being treated.

His gaze was stupefied and it was clear on his face that the death of the baby Kinanti weighed heavily on him. Ma Manisah could clearly see that this young girl before him was soft-hearted and the prison world was too harsh for him.

"I honestly don't know either. Even to meet Kinanti alone it felt like I didn't dare." Replied Ma Manisan while peeking into the room. Looks Kinanti is still asleep due to the influence of drugs that have not disappeared.

...****************...

Kinanti woke up from her sleep and her whole body was in pain. The lower part of his stomach was painful as if it had been split with a sharp object. Kinanti looked towards her shrinking stomach.

"Well, have I given birth? Where's baby?" Kinanti muttered happily looking at her son who was no longer in his stomach anymore.

His eyes then caught two female figures entering his room. Ma Manisah and one other person dressed as a warden he did not know.

"Mother, how is my son Mom? They're okay, right?" Ask Kinanti expectantly.

The two women sat next to Kinanti. His face looked gloomy and their lips were tightly locked. It's hard to tell what happened to Kinanti.

"Mom, how are you quiet? Where's my baby, Mom? They're okay, right?" Kintai asked once more.

Finally, Manisah Ma chose to speak up. After confused stringing words inside his head, Madam Manisah decided the truth still had to be conveyed even though it was bitter.

"Both of your sons died in the womb, Ti."

It felt like Kinanti's life was being pulled in one blow. Kinanti was stunned to hear the words that Bu Manisah said. Can't his son die? Babies who are old enough in the womb may not just go away right?

"Mom's kidding, right, Mom? Don't play around like this, Mom. I want to meet my son now, Mom. Come accompany me to the ward where my son is!" Kinanti cried out in disbelief.

Manisah is crying. The female guard was also crying. They could not bear to see Kinanti rejecting the harsh reality. Which mother can accept the fact that her child is gone before she can even see him?

The two women hugged Kinanti who was crying out loud. There was no medicine that could heal Kinanti's wounds. And they knew, no matter how hard they tried, the two women would not be able to comfort Kinanti.

"You are strong, Ti. I'm sure there's a silver lining."
