For one week in a row Darian again did not return home. After two steady weeks at home with Kinanti, now Darian disappears again. Back to being like the old Darian, who always left his wife alone and chased after Hanna wherever she went.
Kinanti was sure Darian must have returned to Hanna. Somehow, Hanna managed to make Darian make up with her. And for sure now Hanna locked Darian in her apartment for her alone. Hanna would definitely forbid Darian from stopping by another place after work. Kinanti could read the woman's fear of losing Darian.
But Kinanti also could not keep quiet. Not because she wants to take back her husband. Honestly, he gave up fighting for it. They've been married for over a year and Darian hasn't changed. So there's no point in asking him back. Although Kinanti knelt down and cried blood, Darian's heart only belonged to Hanna and she would definitely return to Hanna as well.
What makes Kinanti nervous waiting for Darian's return is because her mother-in-law is constantly asking about the dinner with them. He was confused why his son-in-law could not confirm a definite date. Why was his son-in-law impressed to stall to tell Darian's answer.
"How, Ti? When can you and Ian have dinner with Mama and Papa?" Mama Darian asked on the phone that morning.
Kinanti muttered seemingly thinking of something.
"Let's ask Mas Ian again, Ma. Mas Ian is still very busy, so Mas Ian can't set the date yet." Kinanti said lying.
The little lies that Kinanti did to cover up her husband's disgrace. But on the other hand, the lie also hurt her in-laws. The mother thought it was as if her two children no longer wanted to see them.
"Why, Ti? Ian doesn't want to see Mama Papa anymore?" Ask her mother-in-law in a moody tone.
Kinanti felt so wrong. It was not meant to hurt her mother-in-law. It was just that Kinanti was confused and could not decide on the right time. How could he decide for himself if Darian alone was not with him?
"It's not so, Ma. Later that night Kinanti asked again to Mas Ian yes. Later that night, Kinanti will tell Mama about the time." Kinanti said while trying to comfort her mother-in-law.
And as his promise was heard by God, Darian returned home after seven days of disappearing. Kinanti immediately opened the door when the bell rang. He knew full well that Darian was coming because Kinanti saw the Darian sports sedan go through the fence of their house.
"You're home, Mom?" Ask Kinanti when she sees Darian.
"Yes. Or do you want me not to go home?" Reply Darian cuek. He walked past Kinanti indifferently.
Kinanti ran following in her husband's swift footsteps.
"Mas, there's something I need to talk to you about." Said Kinanti on Darian who had climbed half the stairs.
Darian looked down. Looking towards Kinanti.
"Can't be later? I'm tired and I'm gonna rest." Reply Darian coldly
"Can't, Mom. I promised Mama." Kinanti tengat.
Kinanti quickened her pace so that she caught up with Darian. They walked side by side and entered the room. Darian opened his suit and Kinanti immediately swiftly helped Darian open his tie.
"What do you want to talk about?" Ask Darian.
"Mama's gonna take us to dinner. She said Mama misses you who's been so busy lately." Answer Kinanti. His hands were still busy opening the tie and then buttoning Darian's shirt.
Darian exhaled. Either he felt tired or was reluctant to hear the words of Kinanti.
Kinanti clicked annoyed. The stone-head man. No matter how many times he was told he would not believe that his mother was the one who asked his son to come to dinner.
"No, Mas. A week ago Mama came here and wanted to take us to dinner. I always try to call you but you never pick up my phone. That's why I can tell you now." Kinanti Clearly.
Darian walked away from Kinanti and headed for the bathroom.
"So how, Mas?" Pursue Kinanti to Darian.
"Not this week or next week. I already have an appointment with Hanna. Three weeks or the end of next month." Darian said, then closed the bathroom door.
Kinanti was not out of thought and was disappointed with Darian. It's not that he feels hurt that Darian thinks Hanna is more important than him. Kinanti has long learned to hang on to that disappointment. But what about Darian's parents? Is it as important as Hanna is to her that she would rather go with Hanna than have dinner with her parents? No matter how much he loves Hanna, shouldn't Darian still put his parents first?
Maybe this is what her mother-in-law said first. Hanna always keeps Darian away from her family. I don't know what the woman whispered that she managed to brainwash Darian to limit interactions with her own family. Perhaps the only thing that keeps Darian tied to his family is because Darian is worried that the assets he owns are being transferred to someone else. It was more and more that Kinanti became increasingly disillusioned with this heartless man she called husband.
...****************...
Kinanti. How should he tell his mother-in-law that his son would rather go with his affair than his family? Should Kinanti tell the truth? Or should Kinanti just lie so that her two in-laws do not feel disappointed?
"Hello, Ma?" Kinanti's greeting to her mother-in-law on the phone.
"Hello, Ti!" Reply to her mother-in-law with vigor.
"Ehm, Ma. About that dinner." Kinanti sounded worried.
"Why, Ti?" Ask her mother-in-law, curious.
In the end the decision must be taken and Kinanti chooses the choice of both. It was better for him to lie to protect his second day in-laws than to be honest in order to teach Darian a lesson. Kinanti did not care whether Darian would regret or even change for the better. But Kinanti did not want the two in-laws she had considered like her own parents to feel disappointed because of her son.
"Mas Ian's been very busy lately, Ma. His meeting agenda with investors is very tight. So it might be a little hard for Ian to set aside time for dinner together." Saying Kinanti slowly.
There was a weak oh voice from her mother-in-law. Kinanti knew very well that her mother-in-law was disappointed with her own son.
"But Mas Ian promised to spend time at the end of next month, Ma. Fourth week of August. How's Ma? Mama wants? Want to Ma?" Pinta Kinanti expectantly.
Mama Darian's voice sounded very sad. But he can what. His son is an adult and has his own priorities. Maybe her parents are no longer on that list. And Mama Darian can't do anything. He will not come to Darian's office and get angry because Darian is busy. So it was only a sense of disappointment that he could accept and inevitably had to swallow the bitter pill alone.
"Yes, Ti. Mama wants to. Being late is better than nothing, right?" Mama Darian said slowly.
Kinanti felt guilty. But he can't do anything either. Despite Kinanti's wife, Darian would not listen to the words of anyone other than Hanna. So persuading Darian is tantamount to talking to a stone statue. Bouncing without getting into the ear in the slightest. Regretfully, Kinanti apologized to her mother-in-law.
"I'm sorry, Ma."
