Time has never gone faster for Kara. Two hard years have passed where he has to live a life full of struggle and self-defense. Yes, she refrained from betraying her own decisions and ran home to her home, Frans. But logic forced him back. He believes there will always be time for him and Frans to unite, and all he needs to do before that is to look after their baby.
Currently, Kara stands in the house that used to be her love nest with Frans while pushing a sizable baby carriage. Inside are two seventeen-month-old twins who are playing with the child-friendly toy Kara gave them.
Kara's face paled when she saw the warm house she used to live in now turned cold and unkempt after only two years she left. The yard that used to be full of flowers and ornamental plants is now empty and barren. While the once sparkling white paint now looks dull and dusty, a sign no one is taking care of it. But, looking at the clean glass windows, he was sure that there were still people living here.
Shortly after Kara observes her old house, a familiar machine voice comes from behind her, making her turn her head. Both eyes sparkled when they saw Frans' car entering the yard. He wanted to run up to her, but, again considering there was a baby carriage that he had to guard here. “Frans!” He could only call her longingly when he saw the man he loved was finally in front of her at this moment, not just in a dream as he had seen her every night for the past two years.
Frans froze when he saw the figure standing before him. It was the woman he loved, the woman who betrayed him and left him two years ago. But never once did he stop missing her. Unconsciously his feet stepped forward. “Kara.” He could see Kara also stepping forward. When they finally faced each other, Frans noticed that there was a baby carriage between them. He frowned.
Kara could not help her smile. She saw Frans finally coming to her senses with the baby carriage in front of her. “Frans, this is our son. They're twins!” she said while holding back the crying. “I told you the curse was just nonsense, Frans!”
“No,” muttered Frans, staring at Kara with a look of disbelief. He stepped back in shock. His two eyes immediately turned full of pain, aimed at the woman he loved before him. “Must be both of them my son! I can't have kids! You really betrayed me, Kara? How can you?” ask her in a soft and sad voice.
Kara widened her eyes, immediately shaking her head strongly. “No, Frans! This is our son! You have to believe! I couldn't have betrayed you, Frans. I love you!” She never expected that one day Frans would actually expect her to be pregnant with someone else. How could he think so badly of himself?
Frans smiled cynically. “You could have just left me without a word two years ago. How can I trust you?” She never felt as bad as when she was abandoned by Kara two years ago. He goes through his days with pain and longing for the woman who left him. How lyrical.
“I'm sorry for leaving without telling you! I'm afraid I can't protect our son, Frans! I went to protect our baby and to prove that your curse does not exist. Now, look. This is our son, Frans! I beg you to trust me! The last two years have been hard on me. Never a day have I missed you. Please, Frans,” pinta Kara with a heart-wrenching cry.
It is not easy to stay alone and take care of two young children. Many times Kara wants to give up, but, she holds it back just to see Frans' happiness. She never knew that her husband had been so misunderstood for the past two years.
“You better go now, Kara. I don't want to see you,” Frans said looking away before stepping into the house without turning his head. Ignoring Kara's cry that made her heart ache. But, even though he wanted to grab the woman in his arms, Frans simply clenched his fists and continued to step forward.
Kara stared at Frans' back which was getting farther away and then disappeared from her sight. He subconsciously recalled the memory fragment in Grandma's house, how he had been planning his departure ever since.
“What's up, Kara? Just say it, don't hesitate, Honey,” Grandma replied when she saw her granddaughter seem hesitant to say it.
“Nek, I don't think Frans' curse exists. I'm sure it's just bullshit, Grandma. But, I also suspect how two of Frans' ex-wives could have miscarried is due to someone's evil plan.” The word wet his lower lip. The feeling in his chest right now was very mixed.
“So, you mean there's someone who always wants to harm Frans' future son to make the curse real?” Grandma asked with apparent surprise on her face. He had never thought of such a cruel human tone. Even though the one inside the stomach was still a fetus, it was still a human life!
“This is still my guess, Grandma. And I suspect that the one who did that was the one who was near Frans.” Kara clasped her grandmother's hand. He was also afraid of his own guesses. If his conjecture was correct, that person must have been extremely cruel and frightening.
“If that's true, how pity Frans. She had to go through the pain of many times losing her child and was considered cursed by others, even her family,” her grandmother replied with teary eyes. The life Frans lived was very sad.
“Because of my guess, Grandma. I feel like I have to go for a while to be sure that my baby and Frans can live a healthy life,” he said with reassuring eyes. “I want everyone to know if the curse is never real, Nek.”
Grandma held Kara's hand tightly. He knew the life of a respected person would not be easy, he never expected his granddaughter to live that life right now. But, as a grandmother, she just wants Kara's happiness and supports her every decision. “Grandmother understands. So you're going?”
“Iya, Mother. I want Grandma not to worry when I suddenly disappear one day. Like I said, I will go to take care of my baby and Frans, and prove that the curse was never real.” Kara smiled, her two eyes emitting an unseen hope. She dreams of perfect happiness with Frans and their son.
Grandma smiled to see him. “Whatever happens grandma will support you, Kara. But, you must promise to take care and take care of yourself in the future. If it's too heavy, you can go back to Grandma's house anytime.” His wrinkled hands caressed the dark hair of his granddaughter, Kara.
“Thank you, Grandma,” reply Kara while hugging her grandmother.
Returning to reality, Kara stared at the house before her with a self-deprecating smile. She wiped her tears before turning away with her two children.
