CHAPTERS 18. Invitation

***House of General Li Jin***

Ying Ying had dinner with Bai Lu, Chang Ru, and Li Teng in the dining room. As usual, it was Tan Xiang who picked up the side dish for Ying Ying and secretly checked whether the food was poisonous or not, before giving it to Ying Ying.

Chang Ru enjoyed the dinner dishes with a happy mood as most of the dishes served were her favorite side dishes.

While Bai Lu stared intensely at Li Teng, his beloved son. Li Teng's pouting face made Bai Lu worried.

"What's Li Teng? You sick?" ask Bai Lu.

Li Teng shook his head in response to Bai Lu's question. As the youngest child, Li Teng was greatly pampered by Bai Lu. Whatever Li Teng's request, it must have been granted by Bai Lu.

At first Li Jin wanted to educate Li Teng with fighting skills in order to become a general like him. Even Li Jin wanted to bring Li Teng to the battlefield to train and augment Li Teng's experience, but Bai Lu balked.

Bai Lu reasoned that Li Teng was young and would rather learn than fight. Though the real reason for Bai Lu was not wanting Li Teng to sacrifice his life on the battlefield. If Li Ming died on the battlefield, then Li Teng was Li Jin's only heir.

"Mother! My pocket money is over!" li Teng.

"Mom will give you some more pocket money. Let's eat first. You've been studying all day" Bai Lu said.

"Thank you mom!" li Teng replied.

Ying Ying knew Li Teng was not studying all day, but rather gathering with her friend to go to the gambling establishment.

As Ying Ying headed towards the dining room, Ying Ying heard a conversation between the two maids in charge of guarding and serving Li Teng so that Ying Ying knew Li Teng was spending his allowance at the gambling establishment.

This happens often. Ying Ying was sure that Bai Lu and Chang Ru knew about it, but the two of them did not reprimand Li Teng at all.

A Niu ran hurriedly to the dining room.

"What's A Niu?" asked Bai Lu curiously.

"Young lady, there's an invitation from the palace!" answer A Niu.

"Invitation from the palace!" bai Lu, Chang Ru, and Li Teng said simultaneously.

The three of them enthusiastically took the invitation card from A Niu's hand. There are three red invitation cards.

Li Teng opened the invitation intended for General Li Jin's Family, Chang Ru opened the invitation intended for him, and Bai Lu opened the invitation intended for Chang Le.

"Invitation from the palace?" inner Ying Ying.

Ying Ying pretended not to care and enjoyed his food as usual.

"Mother! Emperor Wei invites us to a dinner at the palace tomorrow!" li Teng.

"I got a special invitation from Queen Wen!" chang Ru said arrogantly.

"Madam! Did Miss Chang Le get an invitation?" ask Tan Xiang.

"Yes!" bai Lu replied as he gave the invitation card in his hand reluctantly.

Tan Xiang read the contents of the invitation before giving it to Ying Ying.

"Miss Chang Le! Tomorrow night the lady is invited to the palace dinner. Here's the invitation card" Tan Xiang said.

"Invitation card! Invitation card! Just like Chang Ru!" ying Ying shouted as he clapped.

Ying Ying deliberately upset Chang Ru. Chang Ru's dead red face made Ying Ying laugh a little in her heart.

Chang Ru's deteriorating mood was realized by Bai Lu and Li Teng.

"Chang Ru's! Tomorrow morning join mom shopping for clothes and jewelry to attend a dinner at the palace. You'll be the center of attention tomorrow night!" bai Lu said.

"Good, Mommy!" replied Chang Ru.

"Okay, young lady!" answer Tan Xiang.

The next day Bai Lu and Chang Ru went to shop in a large horse-drawn carriage and brought four servants.

Tan Xiang reported the matter to Ying Ying. Tan Xiang believed the clothes and jewelry bought for Chang Ru must have been more expensive compared to the clothes and jewelry for Chang Le. 

Ying Ying doesn't care about clothes, jewelry, or the palace dinner tonight.

Ying Ying was more enthusiastic about waiting two more days to go to Qing Qiu for his magic power to appear and start revenge against Chang Ru and Wei Wu Xian.

At lunch time, Bai Lu's entourage arrived at General Li Jin's residence. Chang Ru ordered Chen Chen to call Chang Le to the front room.

"Tan Xiang's! That's clothes and jewelry for Chang Le!" bai Lu said as he saw Ying Ying and Tan Xiang arrive in the front room.

"Thank you young lady!" Tan Xiang representing Ying Ying thanked him.

Tan Xiang took out two boxes containing clothes and jewelry, then opened them one by one and showed them to Ying Ying.

"Beautiful! It's pretty!" Ying Ying cheered in excitement while clapping his hands.

"Bas stupid and an idiot!" inner Chang Ru.

Chang Ru took her new hanfu and her jewelry.

"Sister Chang Le! This is my hanfu!" 

"It's a set of jewels I'm gonna wear tonight!"

Chang Ru showed off her new clothes and jewelry happily. 

"Madam! Why did Miss Chang Le only get a pair of earrings?" ask Tan Xiang.

Tan Xiang had expected Chang Ru's clothes to be more expensive and beautiful compared to the clothes Chang Le had bought. It was just that this difference in jewelry made Tan Xiang unable to resist asking. 

Tan Xiang also saw a lot of unopened grocery boxes and it was certain that all the items contained in the grocery box were Chang Ru's.

"Chang Ru will be the crown princess so mom bought her a set of jewelry for her. As a good brother, Chang Le had to give up!" bai Lu replied as he stared intently at Tan Xiang.

"Beautiful earrings! Pretty earrings!" said Ying Ying while pulling Tan Xiang's hand.

Ying Ying did not want Tan Xiang to offend Bai Lu blatantly because Tan Xiang was just a servant and Bai Lu could punish him at will.

""Bas an idiot fool!" inner Bai Lu and Chang Ru.

A faint smile expanded at the corner of Ying Ying's lips all of a sudden.

"Chang Ru's! I want to see if you can still be arrogant and show off again!" inner Ying Ying.
