The Psychic X Apocalypse

The Psychic X Apocalypse
Chapter 8 [Aftermath]

The following day, headlines throughout the news in various media displayed information related to the dark phenomenon that lasted for ten minutes the night before. Titles range from "Really Untrusted! Is the World Going to End?", "Let's See the Conspirator Behind That Ten-Minute Dark Phenomenon?", until one of the most prominent titles is "The Unveiled Fact: The rotation of the Sun that Causes This Phenomenon".

In the news media, the spokesman presented some famous scientists in the public to talk about global phenomena.

He explained that the direction of the revolution of the sun moves across out of its original path only briefly before returning to its path. It was this short movement that caused the entire world to suddenly go pitch black for ten minutes. To trigger this stray movement, scientists are still trying to research it and can only write the initial hypothesis that the emergence of interrupting extraterrestrial objects in the path of the sun is the result.

The newscast was watched by Alves, and the man thought only one thing.

It's nonsense.

He turned off the television, got up, and went into Joy's room.

The 13-year-old girl was lying on a bed with a pale face that was quite alarming. Since the dark phenomenon last night, after the boy fell unconscious, Joy is still in the same condition and the time is getting worse to the point that Alves wants to take her to the hospital to be examined. If only the man had not remembered that taking Joy to a public hospital would have been a danger to Joy.

Alves grabbed the cloth dipped in a basin of hot water and squeezed it out. Then she spread the cloth around Joy's forehead, hoping that her efforts would pay off.

Thirty minutes ago, before Alves watched the news without any credibility on television, he called Eliot. He pressed his phone screen many times, but the phone was not connected for a second. Alves thinks he can ask Eliot, the brain of the Psychic organization, about Joy's mysterious condition.

But Eliot seemed to be busy, fixated on the files that filled his desk and locked himself up without eating and drinking in his room.

Or, the exact incident Joy experienced also happened on Eliot's side.

Alves hastily dismissed the negative thought, so that his imagination did not occur in reality. He went back to check if there was a phone coming in from his phone, and once again let out a long sigh.

Why am I a babysitter now?

A second later, Alves' phone suddenly rang. His finger immediately pressed the receive button.

"Eliot."

"There's a problem with Joy, is that it?"

"You know what?"

"Hmm, just a small guess. Joy won't do anything. It was most likely because his oracle ability left him unintentionally exposed to contact with the high entity that caused that dark phenomenon."

Alves pondered for a moment. His fingers played the red pendant that was slung around his neck while thinking. "Since last night Joy passed out and has not been awake until now" said Alves.

So how can you predict the situation that befell Joy?

Alves finally swallowed the question he wanted to ask. He knew Eliot was very smart, probably one of the smartest humans in the world. But sometimes Eliot seems to be able to read the future, guessing what happens next time. His abilities have nothing to do with the future.

Although Alves had long been accustomed to Eliot's ingenuity, he never knew how Eliot did it.

But not the suspicion that appeared in Alves' mind, but curiosity only. Alves wanted to be like Eliot, to be able to do wonders with his brilliant brain.

"Oh, yeah. You can wait until Joy wakes up. Maybe tonight she'll wake up."

Eliot was dumbfounded for a moment. "There was a bit of a riot. Dr. Carl is trying to find out about the dark phenomenon" he said.

"The oracle Joy received really came true. What's the next plan?"

A rhythmic tap of the finger touching the table sounded from the end of the phone. "I think we can stop all the agenda first before making sure that the phenomenon of darkness and its causes will not harm our people. Your advice, Al?" Eliot asked back.

"Okay. So my vacation will be extended?"

"You mean you have business in the capital of the Stellar Federation, Lumens? As far as I know 'he's' residence isn't there."

Alves stood up and walked towards the window.

The view of the city of Lumens unfolds through a thin glass attached. The highway seemed to be filled with passing vehicles, and pedestrians circled around the streets. The trees are firmly planted, making the air feel more fresh and beautiful. But even with the peace of the Lumens capital like the cities in general, there are rumors circulating among the mafia that Lumens contain secrets buried deeply without the knowledge of people who come to visit.

And Alves is after the secret, intending to expose it.

"The bird news I received was not one hundred percent valid" Alves said, sounding a little defensive.

Breath catching. "I'm not banning you. But do not let you wake up anyone who is your target" Eliot said.

"I'm not that stupid" Alves said. "Then you take care of your business there. I still have to check on Joy first" he added.

"Since when can you handle-"

"Bye." Alves disconnects the phone and cuts off Eliot's words. He massaged his forehead slowly after he finished hearing Eliot's short but annoying sniffle.

After that Alves pulled the curtain to close the room window and went to the mattress where Joy was lying. It gives one final glance to check Joy's condition at a glance. Then go to the front room and continue checking the news that has appeared on television.

Time seems to pass so fast. But the topic of the phenomenon of darkness that befell the world last night still shocked the world and reached the peak of discussion tonight. Social media unceasingly shared a number of notifications that filled the phone screen. Intense conversations between netizens are getting more powerful, luring lovers of conspiracy theories and so on.

After reading some useless information on the internet, Alves finally turned off his phone completely, vowing to no longer open his social media application as long as people are still discussing about the phenomenon of darkness with all the theories sickening him.

Alves really felt he had spent this whole day in vain.

He lay down for a moment on the sofa, gathering and organizing his thoughts.

After some time, Alves stepped into the kitchen and started cooking food for the night. Recalling Eliot's remark that Joy was soon to appear to be awakening, Alves decided to make a meal for two.

Until Alves puts a plate of food on the table, Joy has no signs of awakening anytime soon. After returning from Joy's room, Alves began grabbing her spoons and forks, ready to eat her dinner.

Just as Alves' mouth opened to swallow the rice, his ears caught the sound of the footsteps of the wings. Sendal collides with the ceramic floor slowly.

Just as Alves turned his head towards the door, a short figure came out and emerged from behind it with a pale face.

"Ge, what's dinner today?"
