The next day, Alves woke up early and immediately turned on the computer to work. He searched, collected, and grouped all the information he could get from various media related to the events told by Joy yesterday. Its working efficiency is fast and not long-winded. After two hours Alves had been scraping and sorting each file in his folder regularly, then turned off his computer.
He was silent for a moment, contemplating and organizing his thoughts and all the information in his brain. Before long Alves stood up and decided to go to the kitchen.
He planned to take a loaf of bread with strawberry jam as his breakfast that morning. While biting the bread, his hand moved to call the number listed on the contact list of the first line.
"Hello, Alves. Is there a problem?" A familiar hoarse voice sounded at the end of the phone. Alves then frowned.
"What ... no, your medicine has been taken routinely this week?" Alves paused in the middle of his words and changed his mind before asking anything else.
"It has. You have business, yes." He said it for sure. Of course he recognized Alves very closely and was used to the nature of Alves so he could guess the thoughts and actions he would do.
"Yes. Yesterday at dinner, Joy suddenly got an oracle," Alves said.
The voice across turned serious. "Explain."
"He can't see anything. It was dark without the slightest light. Plus there was an oppressive force fighting against him. Joy described it until she found it hard to breathe and move" Alves said.
"For more details, I'll send it by e-mail. I've also tried to check the information I can find," he added. It only takes a few clicks and the compiled files have been transferred to the phone that is located remotely there.
The person who received the file, Eliot, traced it one by one slowly. So that in the next few minutes, communication is not interrupted but in a state of silence. A finger tap on the table rhythmically sounded from Eliot's side, while the sound of Alves' bite swallowing his bread accompanied the silence.
Twenty minutes later, Eliot returned to his voice. "What do you think of this oracle?" He asks.
"... Not much can be deduced from this incident. But one thing is certain, there are other beings who have power and power that is higher than us. It could have been the direct or indirect cause of the dark phenomenon and isolated humans completely" Alves said.
"Do you think he's a creature from another world?"
"Alien? Little doubt. My instincts say-"
"Do you think He is a God?"
Eliot's conjecture is more or less in tune with the assumptions that Alves formed. Although it does not deny that it could be a group of aliens can invade Earth, but from everything created on Earth more leads to the existence of a higher power that is above the position of humans. Like where the supernatural abilities of this psychic come from. Doesn't that mean He is the one who provides and degrades such beyond reason to some innocent human being?
"Maybe." Even so, Alves still could not confirm a hundred percent of his assumptions if there was no solid evidence to support it.
"Then there is no need to think about it further" Eliot said casually, "If any existence has a higher power than ours, we cannot do anything about it. All we can do is wait for that time to come and try as much as possible to reduce losses to the organization."
"You're very pessimistic" Alves commented.
Eliot grunts. "It's called realistic" he argued.
Nonsense with your realistic speech, Inner Alves.
"If there's no more business, I turn off the phone" Eliot said.
"Is there still a lot of work in your place?"
"I still need to sort through some of the remaining files."
"OKAY. Bye."
"Happy holiday, Alves."
Clik. The phone connection was eventually cut off.
Alves put his phone on the table and continued his breakfast while it dissolved in his mind. I don't know what's in his brain right now.
It was the scene Joy found when she set her foot in the kitchen. "Morning, Ge," said the boy.
Alves nodded. "You take bread and other food as it is" he said.
"Do we have no food at home?" joy asked as her hand grabbed the doorknob and opened the refrigerator. The low temperature wind then hit Joy's skin which made the child shiver cold as a result. Another story with the contents of that refrigerator. Foodstuffs can be counted with fingers and each monster seems to have a wide empty distance.
Because he just bought an apartment in the Stellar Federation at a price that is quite expensive because of its strategic location, and the most important thing is the location of the apartment close to the cake shop he craved.
Joy finally resigned to the state of her new home and chose to apply the same strawberry jam to her bread. "When are we going to shop at the supermarket?"
"Later. Tomorrow's new year so surely the streets will be full of traffic."
"Uhm. We're not celebrating the new year?"
Alves turned to look at Joy. "You're celebrating the new year?"
"Yes?" Joy tilted her head.
Alves sighed. "alright. You just click on which one to order so the courier will deliver the groceries in the afternoon." Alves pulled out his phone before he left the kitchen.
"You can do anything as long as you don't get out of the apartment. If you need anything, call me in the room." Alves left the message and went into his room to continue his unresolved affairs.
The time of the day seemed to pass quickly. Although the lively crowds outside brought the city to life, the excitement felt by the crowd did not touch the figure of the man behind his computer screen that lit up. Similarly, Joy was lazing on the sofa while watching a documentary.
Before the scorching sun perched incessantly illuminating all human activities under that day, now the sun fell asleep again in his residence and replaced by the tiny moon and looks alone.
In the afternoon, the courier arrived on time to deliver food that had been purchased through an online application. As usual Alves put out his cooking skills to create a different dinner from the previous night, which is more luxurious and varied. Of course, at Joy's request.
The two of them sat back on the same table, ate the special dinner, and enjoyed the night on that special day. Waiting for the day to change 'to welcome the new year.
By midnight, the city was getting rowdy. Joy was heard in all corners. There is no path that is not filled with hordes of two-legged creatures. When the turn of the day is getting closer, the screams and screams are getting louder.
"10, 9, 8, 7--"
Each building has now turned on lights and displays decorated ornaments dedicated to the new year celebration.
"6, 5, 4--"
In droves of humans approaching each other, their facial expressions looked extremely cheerful. As if joyfully etched on the face, and appeared impatient body movements waiting for that second.
"3, 2, 1! Happy new year!" The sound of cheers filled the city that shone brightly coupled with the sound of bells ringing that echoed. Fireworks were lit at exactly the 1st second which immediately soared into the sky and adorned the sea of night surrounded by beautiful stars.
But in that second, anyone did not expect the strange phenomenon would occur.
A split second after fireworks exploded over the sky, the world went out.
The pitch blackness surrounded the Earth without exception. Instantly the crowd in the capital of the Stellar Federation was petrified in silence. Only one of them came to his surprise and shouted in panic. Not a single speck of light lit up around and before long the commotion occurred.
But Alves has absolutely no regard for the unrest going on out there. Inside his room, when the dark phenomenon occurred, Alves did not guess that the phenomenon was related to the oracle Joy received.
He thought it was just a dead light or sunglasses that helped him to look back had run out of energy. But the moment he opened the door to his room and heard Joy's ringing near the television, Alves immediately regained his senses.
The oracle became real.
Without a second thought, Alves immediately helped Joy to sit on the sofa after a bit of difficulty trying to find a way to reach the front room.
I don't know why the circumstances described Joy not experienced Alves. But Joy's current condition is clearly more severe than when Joy received the oracle yesterday. Without even looking, Alves could guess that Joy was barely able to breathe and sweat was pouring out of the child's entire body.
"Joy, can you hear me?" Alves tried to wake up and shift Joy's focus first.
Unfortunately Joy did not speak to Alves. His mind felt messy as if the books that should be neatly arranged on the library shelves were even scattered irregularly, even the shelves also fell on each other.
Alves' efforts over the next few minutes were fruitless. The response Alves got. Although the man is still looking for various ways to try to give a glass of water that was spilled on Joy's head.
Until the last attempt, Joy had just managed to say a word before falling unconscious. "Ge..."
That strange phenomenon lasted for a full ten minutes.
