The Psychic X Apocalypse

The Psychic X Apocalypse
Chapter 6 [First Oracle]

"Hmm, this is a delivery from Chairman Eliot?" Joy picked up the package and handed it to Alves.

Alves' eyes swept a glance at the familiar emblem in the corner of the box. "Yes" he said briefly before reaching into the key from his pocket, opening the door, then entering the apartment.

Joy followed him from behind to the table in the front room. He saw Alves take a cutter to unpack the package, then take out a teak box from him. His curiosity rose and Joy sat down next to the man.

Alves opened the wooden box slowly. A rickety sound was heard while closing the box.

Inside, lay a black and white eye mask with symbols that are intertwined. Beautiful crafts with a touch of traditional shades from the east. Not to forget a red satin cloth wrapped around the inner wooden box, a pedestal for the mask that covers the upper face.

"Whoahs. It's the Dark Eye mask, Ge?" ask Joy in amazement.

He often heard about the many treasures the organization had when he was still participating in training to become a member and hone his skills. Gossip from his comrades-in-arms who like to exaggerate a number of valuable items stored in a hidden place. And one of the treasures that caught his eye the most was the Dark Eye.

Because the owner is Alves, the leader of the behind-the-scenes organization.

A figure who is respected and flattered by all psychics who have heard his name, no less true with Chairman Eliot. Alves who allegedly is the strongest psychic and the limits of his ability are not imitated, different from the psychic in general.

The figure of Alves is also filled with tragic and heartbreaking past for the listeners of his story. And it was his past that caused an organization official to take the initiative to sacrifice half his abilities and create an eye mask with a beautifully engraved pattern. Dark Eye's.

"Don't say his name" said Alves a little harshly.

Alves shuddered in horror as Joy said those two words. He still did not understand why the grandfather named the mask with a cliche and sounding disgusting? What is Dark Eye? Want to confirm that his eyes are completely blind or refer to the condition of his eye hole that was empty for several months?

The taste of the old man was never guessed by Alves.

"Sorry, Ge." Joy felt guilty.

Alves immediately felt like he had just bullied the 13-year-old. He hurriedly said, "There's no need to think about it."

"Yes," Joy lifted her head while looking at the eye mask Alves was holding curiously, "Ge, isn't this mask said to be broken?"

"Mhm. The old man fixed it."

Alves recalls a bombing incident half a year ago, when his face almost burned if only there was no mask to protect him. But of course as the price to pay to protect his face, the mask was almost blown to pieces for the first time if Alves did not take out his ability.

Still when he arrived at the headquarters of the organization, the old man pulled his ears red for destroying his precious invention. It was fortunate that Eliot was at the base at the time and Alves used him as a shield.

"Ah, this thing can also be fixed?" Joy was pensive in her mind. Moments later he turned his eyes on Alves' face and then on the eye mask in turn. "Ge, try wearing this mask, please?"

"No." Alves replied firmly, there is no room to persuade him.

"Why?" timpal Joy did not think.

"This mask is only used during working hours. It's still a vacation, so there's no need." As he spoke, Alves put the mask back into the wooden box and kept it well.

So Joy pouted. His face was flat but the negative aura emanating from him signified his unfavorable mood. Alves pretended not to see it and chose to go to the kitchen to cook a few portions of food.

Joy who felt neglected, speechless to see the apathy of the man. Getting the answer that he was indeed dumped, Joy frowned in her heart. His hand grabbed the remote in front of him and turned on the television with a single tap. Hoping his frustration can be reduced through watching useful and exciting shows.

On the other hand, Alves was preparing utensils and cooking ingredients.

He washed the vegetables clean and cut them evenly on the cutting board along with the chicken he took from the refrigerator. His skill using a knife is also seen from the way he slices each piece of the same size quickly. Soon he poured it on the pot, spilled water, and spooned a pinch of flavorings like salt and so on.

Time passed too. White smoke billowed out from the sidelines of the lid of the pot. Alves immediately turned off the stove and brought the pot to the dining table using a handkerchief. Not forgetting he opened the rice cooker and moved the contents into two bowls.

In front of the television, Joy had smelled the fragrant fragrant sparkling that was revealed from the delicious cooking made by Alves.

"Good meal, Ge!" Joy moved her spoon and devoured every chew in her mouth.

Alves replied with a nod. His mouth went up and swallowed the dinner.

"Oh yes, Ge. Plans for next week are already set?" ask Joy on the sidelines.

"Yes. Simply attend training and deliver orders on target. The rest just wait for further instructions from Eliot. But maybe I had a little need before-"

The tring!

Suddenly the metal spoon in Joy's hand just fell, making a loud enough sound. Alves watches Joy and watches her. The man's hand movements also came to a halt, giving his full attention to the child before him.

Now Joy's expression looks very monotonous and pale. He did not move a single centimeter as if his body was petrified.

If traced in more detail, one would find out how scary the eyes of the child were now. The pupils of his eyes were gone, leaving only a black color that colored his net. A somber feeling of emptiness felt when staring for a moment. His mouth also had a chance to mutter, clenched repeatedly.

Alves waited for about ten minutes. Joy's body condition gradually improved, until the color in her eyes returned to normal. Sweat flowed slowly from his forehead, and Joy suddenly breathed heavily as if she had just gotten a chance to breathe air.

Alves was still waiting, allowing Joy to calm herself down. A few minutes later Joy looked at Alves seriously.

"Ge, I just got a new oracle."

"What's it say?"

"Uhm, there's nothing."

"meaning?"

"I didn't see anything, Ge. Around me is darkness. I tried to walk around the area, but there was no visible light."

Kening Alves shriveled. "Other than that?" He tried to find something else that could be found from the prophecy.

Joy hesitated to say it. The thing he wanted to tell was related to that oracle, but it contained his subjective perspective as well. As if guessing Joy's concern, Alves encouraged her to keep talking.

"Tell me."

"That's .. I don't feel comfortable being in the dark. My body feels heavy, breathing is hard, and my mind is pretty messed up. Like there was another high existence that was very intimidating and suppressing to me," Joy told.

"Is that all?" Alves made sure. He has not commented on Joy's worrying experience.

Joy nodded.

"alright. Quickly finish your meal and after enough rest. You have just used his abilities so that your energy is now drained a lot," suggested Alves again devouring his dinner.

Joy followed Alves. Although he has not fully recovered from the situation just now, Joy tried to perform well and was not impressed affected by it. But now they eat in silence, only the sound of metal and glass plates are left clashing together.

I don't know what Alves was thinking that second. Of course he could not judge Joy's prediction that had just been granted without further investigation. The problem is that there is not enough information to determine a conclusion or a provisional conjecture that can describe the contents of the prophecy.

Only one thing can be known. The oracle never lies. If so, Alves is convinced that the events Joy described will happen in real life. He will feel the feeling of being wrapped up by the darkness and the power that dominates him. Control of his body will be more loose causing himself will be difficult to move or think clearly.

Alves could not imagine that happening. But fate is inevitable, and all it can do is minimize the loss of the event and guess when it will happen.

Alves turned his head to the windowpanes, looking at the dark sky filled with a number of star dots that illuminated the night.

Tomorrow is December 31st.
