The Legend of the Twin Multiversal Gods

The Legend of the Twin Multiversal Gods
Chapter 9: Inner Conflict and the Meaning of Struggle

16 Years later.

Yuto and Gen are now 16 years old. Both of their parents began to age. Gen and Yuto's childhood and adolescence were spent with bullying. It happened because Gen and Yuto were considered abnormal magicians who possessed strange powers. For example, when he was 7 years old, Gen was bullied by his playmates by using low-level magic, suddenly his eyes turned a bright red color. A powerful aura surrounded his body, causing the oppressors to crash and run away like deer being chased by lions.

The entire suppression made Gen become stressed, while Yuto behaved normally as if nothing had happened, as if his heart was made of steel. Gen's adoptive parents always comforted him by saying that it signified that he was a special child. Neither the villagers nor Gen's parents could tell Gen, Yuto, and the oppressors the truth because they were too small.

Now, Gen and Yuto have entered adolescence, an age where humans have been considered mature enough to know the harsh reality. So, Gen and Yuto's adoptive parents call them to tell them the harsh reality. About the sacrifices and struggles of their biological parents, also about the terrible forces sealed within their bodies, as well as about their destiny.

"Gen, Yuto, come here." The foster father called Gen and Yuto. Quickly, the two teenagers approached him.

"What's up, dad?" ask Gen.

"We want to talk about something important" said the adoptive mother with a serious face. "Sit down."

Gen and Yuto immediately sat in the available seats. Their expressions were not far off with the expressions of their two adoptive parents. "What do you want to tell me, mom and dad?"

The father gulped, then he spoke to his two adopted children. "Actually, we're not your real parents."

Gen and Yuto were shocked. Both of their eyes were wide. "Dad wasn't lying, was he?!"

"Dad doesn't lie. This is the reality" said the adoptive father.

"Mom-mom, is that true?" Yuto asked with a face that implied disbelief as he turned towards his adoptive mother.

The adoptive mother replied in a soft voice. "That's right, son."

"Then, who are our real parents?!"

"Your biological parents are very influential figures in this village. Unfortunately, they are gone" said the adoptive father as he bowed. The sense of loss again sliced his heart. "They entrust you to us. Therefore, we take care of and raise you. In the past, we hid the truth and pretended to be your biological parents because back then, you were too small to accept the reality."

"W-what's the reason they're gone?" asked Yuto stammeringly. He was still in shock because of this fact.

This time it was the adoptive mother's turn to swallow. "They died using forbidden magic, to seal the power that could save the witches in your body."

"No!!! This is impossible!!! Impossible!!!" Gen exclaimed with a loud voice. He was still unable to believe the harsh reality. "You're kidding me, right?!"

The foster father replied in a sad tone. "I'm sorry, but that's the truth."

Gen sighed softly, then hurriedly left the room.

"Yuto, please go after her," the foster mother asked.

"Good, mom."

Yuto nodded and prepared to chase after his brother. However, the foster father stopped him.

"No, Yuto. Dad will calm her down" he said.

"Good, yeah."

The adoptive father of the twins also approached the pensive Gen.

"Damn it!!!" The word floated from Gen's mouth, entering the adoptive father's ear. "Why ...?! Why must you die to save our people?! Why?! Why must you sacrifice ...!!!"

Those words kept coming out of Gen's mouth. Tears flowed down from the corner of his eye. The longer, the more tears flowed.

The adoptive father approached Gen and sat to his left.

"Oh, father," Gen said, wiping her tears.

"It seems, you still can't accept reality, Gen."

"That's right, dad. I still can't accept their deaths."

"When I learned of the deaths of both of your biological parents, I was also shocked. Dad was in shock, unable to accept that fact. It felt like I wanted to shout to fate: 'WHY ARE YOU SO CRUEL??!!'"

"But then I realized that constantly regretting the fact was pointless.

We must accept the reality, and continue to struggle down the path of destiny. From that moment on, I'm determined to care for and raise you and your sister, until you grow up to be handsome, strong, intelligent, and wise."

"You have to fight, too, Gen. Fight your way through your destiny. Don't drag on in regrets. The power that could save the witches is now in the bodies of you and your sister. That means you're destined to be a hero."

"Never give up, and never stop. Fight, huh?"

Gen smiled as he wiped his tears back. "Good, dad."
