Prophet's Story

Prophet's Story
The story of the prophet ISMAIL

In the valley, Abraham made a shelter with food and drink. Ibrahim then returned to Palestine while continuing to pray for the safety of Siti Hajar and Ismail.

After days in the desert, Siti Hajar ran out of food and drink for her and Ishmael. Little Ishmael cried thirsty to suckle.

Siti Hajar then ran here and there looking for water for her son. He ran between two hills, Shafa and Marwah. This story is the origin of the pilgrimage ritual known as Sa'i or running around seven times between the hills of Shafa and Marwah.

As Siti Hajar was exhausted, she heard a voice calling to bring Ismail to the place. Upon arriving at the place, Siti Hajar put Ismail who then stomped his feet. From the pounding of the foot came the clear water now known as the well of Zamzam.

Siti Hajar drank the water to Ishmael. The water source made the Jumhur Tribe flocked to the location. Within a few years, the Bakkah Valley grew into a crowded place of people.

Ismail was raised by his mother Siti Hajar in Mecca. Prophet Ibrahim, who lived in Palestine, visited Mecca regularly. Until Ishmael reached the age of adolescence, Prophet Ibrahim said that he had nightmares.

Abraham said that Allah commanded him to slaughter Ishmael. Ibrahim asked Ishmael's opinion.

"Hi son, I saw in my dream that I slaughtered you. Think about what you think!" said Ibrahim. Then, valiantly, Ishmael asked his father to do the commandment of God.

"O my father, do what you are told; god willing, you will find me, including those who are patient" Ishmael said. This conversation is contained in the Koran of the letter As-Saffat verse 102.

In obedience, Abraham kept the commandments of Allah. Ishmael asked his father to tie him with a rope and sharpen the knife so as not to wriggle and pain while being slaughtered. Ismail also requested that his clothes be given to Siti Hajar as a memento.

Before the slaughter, Ishmael and Ibrahim embraced each other.

Ishmael asked his father to kill him without seeing his face. However, Ibrahim's knife could not kill the child.

At that time, Allah said that his commandment was a test of faith for Abraham and Ishmael. Allah sent a goat to be slaughtered, the successor of the Prophet Ishmael.

"And We redeemed the child with a great slaughter" reads the translation of Ash-Shaffat verse 107.

This slaughtering event is the origin of the sacrificial worship that is dedicated or highly recommended for people who are able to in the Eid al-Adha festival.

When Ishmael grew up, he and his father again received orders from God to build the Kaaba near the well of Zamzam. Ishmael and Abraham built the Kaaba prayerfully.

Allah then taught the Prophet Abraham and Ishmael to worship in Baitullah, which later became the origin of the Hajj which continued to be carried out from the People of Prophet Abraham to Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Dutiful obedience to parents becomes an important wisdom that can be learned from the story of Prophet Ismail AS. "Prophet Ismail was a very devoted son to his parents. If you want to find an exemplary figure, look at the Prophet Ismail," said the nanny of Al-Afifiyah Learning Park KH Wahyul Afif Al-Ghafiqi, who led the study,

The prophet Ishmael did not judge or question the commandments God gave to his parents. Ishmael believed that God's commandments were good for him.

Ishmael was always kind to Allah. He believed that Allah did not want evil for His servants.

For the story of the Prophet Ishmael and his obedience, please note that obedience to Allah SWT will be reciprocated with good things. "His obedience was reciprocated by Allah by being saved, not being sacrificed" Wahyul said.
