PRETEND POOR

PRETEND POOR
WE'RE PREGNANT

Ruby walked quickly through the corridor passageway while noticing the room number listed on the doorstep. He wanted to see Melvin's condition immediately. When he found a number that read 303, he deflected his steps and opened the door of the room. Tomi was sitting next to Melvin's bed. Her husband was lying there unconscious with an infusion hose attached to his hand.

Regardless of Tomi's whereabouts, Ruby hugged her husband's body. If there was no one there, he might have cried. His feelings were jumbled between worry, annoyance and wanting to be angry. He should have tied Melvin up this morning not to go anywhere.

"Why can it be like this?"

"After meeting with the client, Mr. Melvin suddenly vomited and then fainted, Mom. I was worried so just directly bring her here."

"What did the doctor say, Tom?" Ruby held her husband's cold hand. Sometimes he sticks it to his cheek.

"Say the stomach acid goes up, ma'am. But it looks like he was given medicine. I don't understand it either."

"Thank you, Tom. You've been looking after Mr. Melvin. Please meet the employees from the marketing division on the set of the commercial. I'm afraid they're confused because I live here."

"Is it okay to leave Mom alone to look after Mr Melvin?"

"It's okay, I can call the nurse if you need help."

"Good, Mom. Then excuse me first." Tomi withdrew from there.

Ruby hugged her husband again, slowly stroking the side of the face of the man who was silent on his bed. "Sister, you're worrying me."

She accompanied her husband, who lay unconscious in bed. It's been an hour there yet no sign of Melvin getting back up. He decided to get up from his stool to grab a drink in the pantry.

"Ughhh ...." Hearing Melvin's moaning, Ruby immediately finished her drink and ran over.

"Nr ...." Ruby approached, standing on the side of the bed. Melvin seemed to be holding his head which still felt heavy.

"Darling, are you here?" As Melvin recalled, last time there was only Tomi by his side while his wife worked outside the office. His gaze gradually returned, he realized that he was now in the hospital treatment room.

"Tomi said you fainted, so I hurried to come here."

Melvin grabs his wife's hand to hug her, who can only lie on the bed. "Happy, when you woke up you were the first person I saw." Melvin murmured. The presence of his wife made him momentarily forget that he was currently sick.

"Try not hugging! I'm very angry! Brother is very wayward, I said not to work but still desperate to leave. Is this what it is?"

Melvin just smiled. He knew that the scolding that came from his wife's mouth was a form of concern for him. "I'm okay, really. It felt like I was just limp, maybe I was exhausted."

"Don't repeat it again, brother! If you're not feeling well, get enough rest."

"Yes, how dare I argue with my beautiful wife." Melvin's side appeared.

"Excuse me ...." The sound of the door opening and the footsteps of the doctor and his assistant entering made Ruby stunned reflexively release Melvin's embrace.

"Look easy, Mom. We'll just do a little check."

Ruby felt shunned. "Please doctor, if you want to check on my husband." He gave space so that the doctor could ask directly to his patient.

"What do you still feel? Do you still feel nauseous and dizzy?" ask the doctor.

Melvin nodded.

"How long have you felt these symptoms?"

Ruby was rather surprised to hear her husband's confession. For a week her husband was uncomfortable with her body condition, but did not tell Ruby. As a wife, she felt that she failed to maintain the health condition of her husband. In fact, every morning he has tried to be on time to prepare breakfast.

"Are you also feeling excessive anxiety and tired easily lately?"

"Yes, Doc. Maybe because of the work that accumulates and often stays up so there are strange thoughts that sometimes appear in the brain."

Doctor Hermawan. His assistant was busy recording the diagnosis from their conversation.

"If you may know, are you pregnant?"

Ruby immediately gaped as the doctor faced her while asking about it. "No, Doc. I'm not pregnant."

Ruby and Melvin looked at each other. They do not understand what the relationship between pregnancy and heartburn suffered by Melvin.

"Suster Emi, please take Mother Ruby to the poly section of the womb, yes!" pinta Mr. Doctor.

"All right, Doc."

"Wait a minute!" Ruby still doesn't understand what the doctor means. She refused to be taken away from her husband's treatment room. "What do you mean, Doc? I'm not pregnant ..." Ruby protested. How a doctor considers her pregnant when the condition of her stomach is still flat and she feels nothing.

"Indeed Mr. Melvin has a history of stomach ulcers are quite chronic. However, the cause of the recurrence this time I think not because of late eating, but because of the symptoms of pregnancy."

"Well! I'm pregnant, doc?" melvin asked in shock. He who had previously been lying down could immediately sit so shocked.

The doctor and nurse laughed. "That's not what I mean. Sometimes, there is a wife who is pregnant, but the husband who feels the severity of pregnancy symptoms that should be experienced by a woman. The term, the husband experiences sympathy pregnancy syndrome because of his great affection for the wife."

"But, my wife is not pregnant, doc ...."

"Are you guys checking it out?"

"Not yet, Doc. But, a stomach as small as that is said to be pregnant?"

"That could have happened. The relaxed wife felt nothing, but the dead husband felt cravings. That's why we wanted to check on Ruby's mother to prove it."

"Yes already, Doctor. I want to be checked." After hearing the doctor's explanation, Ruby finally decided to comply with the doctor's advice. He followed the nurse out of the room.

"Well, maybe yes, if a man can feel his wife's pregnancy?" Melvin was still curious about what the doctor said.

"There was. It's called Couvade syndrome or pregnant father syndrome. Usually characterized by ulcers, indigestion, restlessness, sleeplessness, and decreased libido."

"ah! I think that last feature is true, Doc. I used to do it three times a day, these last few days there was no desire to be in touch."

"Well, three times a day?" Doctor's surprised.

"What's wrong, Doc. That's also the minimum number. We're newlyweds, it's only natural that we're still excited."

Shortly after, Ruby returned while showing two red lines on the pregnancy test kit she carried. Melvin is excited to get the happy news from Ruby. The two embraced again as if no one else was there.

Melvin did not think he was sick because of his wife's pregnancy. He wants to be nauseous every day like food poisoning. Unexpectedly, his wife was pregnant. Even though the pregnant ones are only Ruby, but it feels like they are almost together.
