Revenge is a bad deed that is not allowed in Islam. According to Islam, the only best way to un`revenge is by being a forgiving soul.

As the Prophet Muhammad said, "No one forgives injustice (to himself) unless Allah will add to his glory," (HR. Ahmad, Muslim and Tirmidhi).

In addition, being forgiving can also make us more calm and peaceful. Our hearts and minds will feel light and calm. Of course, revenge is not the same as when seeking revenge. Allah says: “And indeed those who defend themselves after being persecuted have not sinned against them, verily, sin is upon the one who wrongs man and transgresses before him without right. They have a painful torment. But people are patient and forgiving, in fact that includes the very main thing,” (QS. Syuro Assay: 39-43).

Of course sometimes we feel that someone who is bad-mouthing us, we have to reply, because at that time we may feel very hurt. However, on this matter the Prophet said:

“When someone criticizes you or insults you with the disgrace that he knows is upon you, do not return to aggravate him with the disgrace that you know is upon him. Then his reward is for you and his sin for him,” (HR. Al Muhamili in Amaliah no 354, Hasan).

Vindictive nature is strictly prohibited in Islam because it can worsen a person's morals. In addition, this nature can also lead us to Allah SWT. Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala and Rasulullah shalallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam hate vindictive nature, and strongly encourage us to be forgiving people.

Even if revenge is still done so hate something, then the person concerned will have a bad influence. The following are five factors why revenge is prohibited as reported on Islamweb.

 1. Burning hatred in the Soul

The one who takes revenge is not an honorable person. Dawud bin Rashid quotes an Indian sage as saying, "I will not win against fools, but I will not take revenge."

From Ibn al-Kalabi of his father, he said that Salam bin Nawfal al-Daili was the teacher of the Banu Kenana. One night someone from the Bani Kenana came out to fight with the sword. Then he was brought before Salam bin Nawfal and asked what you had done. 

Salam reminded that there is no point in getting revenge. For it is more honorable to hold our anger, and to forgive those who do us bad. Revenge is a foolish act of tolerating or immersing hatred in his soul and property. 

Not an honorable deed

Revenge is not an honorable act. The wise man said, "It is not the honorable habit to take revenge quickly, nor is it one of the conditions of generosity and of dispelling blessings.

Unappreciated

The person who takes revenge should not be thanked and should not be praised. Al-Abshihi said, "The one who takes revenge has healed his anger and taken away his right. So that he should not be grateful for his actions."

Would regret

Revenge will be followed by regret, believe me. This is what Ibn Qayyim said, "Nobody has ever taken revenge. If done, regret will come."

It generates hatred

Revenge will not bring good. This act caused hatred in the society.
