It's hard for me to figure out a way for Brother Edgar to go with me. Finally this afternoon he came to the house wearing a misty ash t-shirt wrapped in a jacket and blue jeans. I saw her smile that afternoon so sweet. I hope I didn't disappoint him. I promised to take her somewhere that might be an inspiration for her next book.
My desire to be close to the author of the book I read is a proud one. If only Edgar hadn't been the niece of his sister's husband Mama, I probably wouldn't have gotten close to him like this.
He greeted Mom very kindly. I hope you are impressed with his good attitude.
“Tante, I want to borrow Marissa for a while, she has promised to show me a good place.”
I saw Mama's forehead wince. I don't think he likes the way Edgar speaks. “Icha not an item.”
Brother Edgar smiled.
“This is Edgar's sister asking permission, Ma,”.
“Mama know.”
Edgar smiled again, and then looked at me. Every time he smiled, I felt like a cupid was shooting his arrow right in my chest.
“Cha, where do you want to take Edgar?” ask Mama.
“Ke SMA by.” I saw them both silent. “Oops, surprise.”
“Cha.” Mama frowned.
I can only smile dryly. “Just to a nice place, Ma.”
“Not far?”
I know Mama's worried because I've never been with any guy before. You could say Edgar was the first man I took away. Take notes, which I invite, not the one that invites. The point is, men bring me a lot, but I've never been this interested in men. Maybe I just liked a guy ten years older than me, even though Edgar's brother is already thirty-two years old, but, he seems to look seven years younger than his age. When her mother mentioned Edgar's age, I couldn't believe it at all. However, after I saw the man, I just believed that age was just a number.
“Yes, Icha leaving, Ma. Icha promise eight o'clock already home.”
“But night. Clock seven.”
Edgar and I sat for a few seconds. My world was sidetracked until I forgot to deny Mama's orders.
“Mama don't want to know, anyway seven o'clock you should already be at home.”
I blinked and stared at Mama. “I can't, Ma, eight o'clock I've done it. Now leaving is bound to be jammed.”
“Yes, no need to leave. If you just want to spend time on the road. What's the thrill of stuck.”
“Mama. I promised Edgar.”
“Why should promises everything?”
I stared at the man still standing at the door. Even Mama wouldn't let him in. “This is a new book Edgar, Ma. I will feel very meritorious for being able to get involved with his new book.”
The cupid again stuck his love arrow in my chest. His smile this time made my heart flutter.
Mama looked at me a long time ago. “Ya has come home fast.”
I even want to laugh. “Depart also not yet, Ma,” I said as I grabbed her hand and kissed her. “Come, Ka,” take me to Brother Edgar.
“Depart first, Aunt.” Brother Edgar kissed the back of Mama's hand. He then said hello.
I can only smile while muttering in my heart, Mama should know that the man is the future daughter-in-law of her dreams.
Shortly after Edgar said his regards, he asked me to get in his car. Honestly, that nineties sedan made me feel like I was being carried into that year. Maybe this was the most luxurious car.
Edgar came in and sat in front of the wheel. “This is Opa's favorite car,” he said while turning to me. “Secretly I tried the car, dear if only didiemin in the garage.”
“But, already got permission, ‘kan?”
“Iya dong.”
“Sgratitude.”
“Why?”
“Fear I'm a suspect in an antique car robbery,” my chuckle.
Brother Edgar chuckled. It made me fall silent and just wanted to hear her laugh longer.
Slowly the car left the housing where I was living. My house is in subsidized public housing. Five years ago Mama and I moved out of Papa's house for one reason or another. We agreed to sell the house and move to a smaller house, the rest Mama bought me a motorbike to be able to go home easily from campus. Since Papa died we've been used to living a simple life.
“Kak?”
Brother Edgar looked. “Iya?”
“Why, are you afraid this car broke down?”
I smiled clumsyly.
“Quiet, this will not strike. Opa said although this is an old car, but often treated kok.”
“Why does Opa still save his car?”
“Memories. For Opa every item has its memories, including home. House contents are all vintage items, even no one can change the decor.”
“Oh.”
“If I am the same Mama keep away every memory that can remind us of the late Papa and Kak Nana.”
Edgar looked at him immediately.
“Nothing. For us if the item can be useful for others, we will give, at least there is a reward that flows for the owner of the item,”.
“Included photos?”
“Yes. If we keep it until now. Why people save photos they don't know.”
“Iya, yes, even for rat nakutin is also useless.”
We laughed together.
“Yuri so come with?” tanyakanya.
“Oh, I forgot to say, he did not come, he said since the morning his stomach hurt,” my lie. Yuri didn't know I was going with Edgar's sister. He's just a tool I can make to take Edgar's sister down the road. Ahaha!
“Hmm.”
“Why?” manya curious.
“Nothing. So, we can go straight to that place, right?”
I thought he'd say we could be alone. My blood flow stopped every thought of him.
“Cha?” call Brother Edgar.
I blinked and straightened my body. “Iya, Brother?”
“No, just want mastiin you do not sleep.”
I scowled, but my lips wanted to be on their backs. My heart was overjoyed and even wanted to wrestle spoiled in the chest of his field. God, forgive me I seem to be in love with this creature of yours.
“Don't daydream a lot, I got confused talking.”
“No, I was just thinking that elephants can fly about what they look like, Brother?”
Brother Edgar chuckled. And it makes thousands of cupids back tickle this chest to the point of not being able to wiggle, even time it feels stopped because it comes to witness the crisp laughter of the handsome man.
Edgar pulled the car over. “Indeed, what do flying elephants look like?” kekeh Brother Edgar while facing me.
I smile. “It seems to be a lie, Brother.”
Brother Edgar again chuckled, even this time louder than before. I swear by anything, I just want to see her smile and laugh every day.
“I didn't expect you to be this funny.” He rattled the top of my head.
I saw his whole face smiling. The wrinkle of his smile is not only between the left and right sides of his nose, but also in both the corners of his eyes and also the cheek line.
I smiled clumsily, maybe even my face flushed.
“I do not need to find a beautiful place in any hemisphere, because I have found that beauty right in front of my eyes.” I read one of the dialogues in Edgar's book.
“And that's you,” continued Brother Edgar after stopping his laughter.
I quickly looked the other way to hide the twinkle in both my eyes. While this chest does not stop beating.
“Still,” says Brother Edgar while returning to driving.
Instantly I looked at him. “For?”
“Because today I can laugh.”
From every word in his book I think he's a loner. And maybe that's true.
