19 - Ask for Restu

Calista looked at the couple in front of him with a feeling that he could not describe.

Two of the men in front of him were Daniel's parents. It was only natural that Calista felt a little nervous and groggy.

Calista tried to keep a friendly smile because both Mr. Waraney Permadi and Mrs Alejandra Nielson seemed friendly to him.

Daniel starts a conversation to overcome the awkward atmosphere created.

"Ma... Pa...I want to introduce my girlfriend to you. As I told you, his name is Calista Chiu."

Daniel clasped Calista's right hand fingers and kissed her softly.

"Good night, Om...Aunt. Nice to know you both." said Calista softly.

Both Waraney and Alejandra smiled as they nodded.

"So, Calista's son lives in Taiwan?" Alejandra asked while raising her glasses.

"Yes Aunt. I was born here but at the age of eight my family decided to settle in Taiwan because my dad is Taiwanese and has a business there." Calista answered while trying to cover up her nervousness.

"Your Indonesian is so good, huh? Waraney.

Calista smiled shyly to get the compliment.

"My mom always speaks Bahasa Indonesia every day when we're home. Papaku can also speak Indonesian even with Taiwan accent. So if Papa talks Indonesian, it sounds funny in our ears"

Waraney, Alejandra and Danielpun chuckled at Calista's reply.

Waraney looked at her son with a face that looked very wise and charismatic.

"My son Daniel. Neither Papa nor Mama ever forbade you to make your choice. You're the one who's gonna live it. As long as you really love each other, we bless it. But remember, do not continue your relationship if the love between you is only for a moment."

Hearing the words of Daniel's parents, there was a sense of happiness that infiltrated Calista's heart. Her lover's parents were very wise and very supportive of her son's choice.

Daniel smiled happily. He then grabbed Calista's shoulder.

"Thank You Pa....Thanks Ma. Daniel will remember all that advice. So.... Would Papa and Mama approve if I marry Calista any time soon?"

Calista's breath seemed to be stuck hearing his lover's last words. His lips are mute and speechless. He looked at Daniel with a surprised look.

"It's up to you, baby." Alejandra said with a smile. "Some of you will hunt old later. Why have so much money but no wife or children?"

Both Daniel and Calista laughed embarrassedly at Alejandra's words.

"Listen, honey, we're done so tonight I want to propose to you in front of my parents." Daniel took out a black box from his pocket. He had prepared the ring the day after he cancelled his engagement with Lizbeth. He was determined to propose to Calista in front of his parents. He did not want to linger binding Calista in the marriage rope considering that the girl had to return to her country in the near future.

Daniel opens the box in front of Calista's face.

"Will you be my wife?"

Calista's eyes glazed over, between doubt, surprise and happiness. He tried to catch his breath.

"Come, Calista boy. Answered dong." Alejandra said when she saw Calista who was still staring in shock.

"I...Da...I want to." replied Calista nervously.

The three people in front of him smiled happily. Daniel pinned the diamond chicin to Calista's ring finger and then kissed her forehead gently.

Waraney and Alejandra stood up and hugged Daniel and Calista alternately. The atmosphere that had been so tense at the beginning, now turned cheerful.
