It took Laura a while to venture down the car with Sabiel. His eyes were fixed on the door of the apartment that was still closed. Yesterday after a long negotiation with her husband and the medics, Laura was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. He was allowed to go home after a few days as a patient there.
"Let's go, baby" Sabiel asked Laura, who was still staring at the door.
He could not deny, there was still a sense of anxiety that had engulfed his heart ever since his family decided to temporarily stay with them. Sabiel himself did not bother with the decision, he instead took advantage of the opportunity to prove that he and Laura were a unity that could not be separated.
"Darling?"
Sabiel called out to Laura once more in a tone of wonder. The man squeezed his wife's fingers, assuring her that things would improve. Laura watched her husband get out of the car and walked around to the door. The man opened it slowly, his hand extended to Laura.
Laura sighed with mixed feelings. He nodded away all the rest of the trouble of what awaited him behind that door. Sabiel embraced Laura's friendly shoulder, she slid a light kiss on the woman's cheek.
"Yesterday I assured you, now you strengthen me" said Laura with a faint smile.
"That's what couples do. We can strengthen each other. So let's face it together. After all your father was not angry when he first met us" Sabiel replied.
They walked together to the apartment door. Open it slowly and step over the doorway.
"You're home yet?"
Uncle Ali's question made the two turn to the source of the voice. Laura's eyes collided with the eyes of the father who was sitting together in the family room.
"You guys are home? Why don't you tell us?"
Another question came from Auntie Dina. The sad-eyed woman walked over from the kitchen. Approaching Laura and Sabiel while wiping her wet fingers on the appron she was wearing. While both of Laura's servants seem to be busy making snacks.
"Yes uncle, aunt. Laura insisted on going home suddenly. So I was too busy to even have time to tell you" Sabiel explained.
"Oh, you don't think of us. So you don't feel any obligation to tell us" a scornful tone of voice came out loud from Laura's father's mouth.
"Ayaaahh" Laura ventured to the parents. "That's not what we mean. Sabiel was really busy having to take care of all the files for Laura's return. That's why I didn't get to tell Dad"
Laura's father's face looks lazy to hear the defense of her daughter. "The reason is, you are always smart to cover everything from us" he said while turning his face.
Sabiel walked over to Laura's father, followed by Dina's aunt. "I'm sorry Sabiel father" he said softly.
"Already have.. You guys just came. Sabiel, you better take Laura to the room. Let him rest first" the soothing voice of aunt Dina made Sabiel clutch his wife's fingers back.
"Dad, forgive Sabiel. If you still want to be angry. Put it all down on Sabiel. Laura is completely innocent" Sabiel said, trying to give in. Not long after, the man pulled Laura to come with him.
Those three pairs of eyes saw the departure of Sabiel and Laura. "Until when are you gonna be so stubborn? Laura just lost her son. Kasian him" Uncle Ali looked at his brother's cold face.
"Laura and Sabiel seemed happy at this moment, could not sister-in-law feel it? Look at Sabiel's eyes, his gaze will always turn soft if he is staring at Laura" This time aunt Dina who expressed her heart.
At first she was as angry as Laura's father, but after a few days of living with them, Dina's aunt was slowly able to understand the attitude of Sabiel and Laura who decided to hide the fact of their series marriage. Especially when Dina's aunt saw her almost every morning, Sabiel came home from the hospital just to make breakfast for Laura. Seeing that Aunt Dina's heart softened, and anger disappeared in her heart without a trace.
Different from his brother-in-law. Laura's father though in his heart he admits how gentle and affectionate Sabiel's attitude towards Laura is. A sense of pride wrapped in emotion still makes him manage to issue hard words to the child and his daughter-in-law. But deep in the recesses of his heart, the old man actually accepted Sabiel's presence as his son's husband.
"I still can't accept they lied to me, their own father" Rama snorted in annoyance.
The night was getting late, past midnight Sabiel came out of his room. The man stepped down the stairs and walked towards the kitchen. Not long after, Laura emerged from the door of the room. The woman walked over to her husband there.
"Why are you out, baby?" sabiel asked who had just realized Laura was behind him.
The woman wrapped around the waist of her husband who was making something with pancake dough. Laura peeked out from behind Sabiel's back. The aroma of pancakes being made spread made his tongue crackle.
"Honey, add honey" Laura said as Sabiel poured honey on pancakes arranged in two layers on a round plate.
Without a word Sabiel added the honey, "Honey, let go of your hand first. I had trouble carrying this" he said
Laura shook her head spoiled, the woman even more buried her head on Sabiel's back. Sabiel who felt the head bobbing behind him, was anxious with his wife's increasingly spoiled behavior. If you do not remember Laura has just recovered from her treatment, maybe now the man has braved his wife's petite body.
The moment twists a flashback to their love journey. Sabiel still did not expect, that his wife who was originally very hard, rough, and easy to be a annoying figure. Now turned into a gentle, loving, and spoiled wife. Laura's sweet attitude every day seemed to increase from time to time.
Sabiel walked slowly, with one hand carrying a plate filled with pancakes. While Laura was still hugging him from behind, the woman was forging Sabiel like a weed in a plant.
"What are your plans for noon? sabiel asked as she fed Laura who was sitting next to him.
Laura seemed to be thinking, "It looks like I'm going to work on my novel. Mumpung is on semester break" she answered with her mouth busy chewing pancakes made by her husband.
"You've just recovered, baby, don't be too tired"
Laura nodded in understanding. His attention was fixed on the piece of pancakes that Sabiel ate for himself. "Stop eating my pancakes. It stayed a little" snorted Laura scolded.
Sabiel smiled amusedly, his eyes changing in a ignorant fashion. "I make, it's appropriate if I eat more" he said as if he didn't care.
Laura snatched the fork that her husband was holding, "I'm still hungry. You can spend it all" arid Laura while cutting pancakes and feeding it to herself.
Sabiel grinned anxiously, the man clasped his wife's cheeks together. His jet eyeballs stared passionately, "You're adorable. Get well soon, I can't stand making love to you"
Sabiel leaned over, the man could almost taste the taste of honey from the tiny lips of his wife, if the hard deheman did not make them jerk in surprise all of a sudden.
"AHEM! EHEM!!"
"Is your room not wide enough to make out? Until I have to see your perverted deeds just because you want to quench thirst" he said scornfully.
"Ayaaahh" Laura bowed shyly. Same with Sabiel.
"Children today are different" Rama said shaking his head as he walked towards his room.
When the bedroom door closed, Sabiel and Laura began to be able to breathe a sigh of relief. Laura snorted at her husband, he elbowed Sabiel's clay while snorting. "Basic bawdy!"
Sabiel simply replied to his wife's snort by shrugging his shoulders while chuckling in embarrassment.
🍁🍁🍁
The experience on a warm morning was the first time Laura felt. Her uncle, father and husband sat together on the sofa in the living room. He and his aunt were busy making food in the kitchen. The distance between the kitchen and the family room were quite close and not close enough to make Laura repeatedly glanced at the precious man in her life.
His smile expands when he sees his father snorting annoyed at losing a chess match with his sister. While Sabiel was watching his second match like a jury.
"Don't cheat dad!" sabiel said to commemorate the cheating of his father-in-law who was very obvious.
"What am I doing?! It's as if you're saying I'm cheating" Rama denied.
Sabiel gnawed at the temple of his head, "Dad interfered with uncle's concentration. You did it on purpose, didn't you?!" tanyanya was suspicious.
"Let it be Sabiel, I'm used to cheating" Ali said.
"What are you, you deliberately conspired to bring me down?" Rama stared alternately at his sister and son-in-law. "Hey you, just tell me if you're afraid I'm beating you" his eyes peeked at the brother's sultry grin.
"Where can you beat me? Since old times you never won from me, brother" led Ali to his brother.
"This time you will lose" said Rama did not accept.
"Hey you! Stop playing, the food is ready. Let's eat while it's warm!"
Aunt Dina's cry made the eyes of the men fall on her. The woman seemed to be busy arranging some dishes at the table with Laura. "Darling, come!" laura's call made Sabiel smile in relief hearing that. The guy better stop being a judge soon, man,
rather than having to tire of facing cheating in-laws who do not want to be corrected.
"Where are you going?!" rama asked his son-in-law who was standing.
"Laura called me dad. I had to get to him before he scolded me" Sabiel said, staring into his parents-in-law's sharp eyes.
"Sabieeeels!"
"Look! You heard it yourself, didn't you?!" she continued when Laura called him half-shouting back.
"Awhile I'm going" cried Sabiel with a contrived tone.
Rama's eyes followed Sabiel's movements around the sofa he was sitting on. While uncle Ali smiled faintly at the wry face of his brother who did not stop watching his son-in-law and son at the dining table there.
In his heart, uncle Ali was grateful. It seemed like this stubborn brother was starting to soften his heart at his two nephews.
"Do you look around?!" sergeant Rama when he realized the gaze of his brother.
Ali shrugged his shoulders as if unconcerned, "I'd rather go with Sabiel, than get tired of your cheating" he sneered as he stood up and stepped towards the dining table.
"God! Why are they becoming more and more annoying this time?!" he muttered alone.
Before long, the old man got up from his seat after he ruffled the chess piece in annoyance. His pace casually approached all family members who were ready to enjoy the breakfast menu.
"What would Dad eat?" laura asked as her father began to sit at the very end of the chair flanked by her uncle and aunt. Laura was sitting next to her uncle and husband.
"Dad wants to try food like your husband. What's that?!" point Rama at a few stalks of tuna sandwiches on a round plate.
Dina and Ali looked at each other with their smiles. Sandwiches in the morning are an odd thing that they just witnessed this time. Laura's father is like most people, the man will always start the morning with a full breakfast menu such as rice and side dishes. But no matter what was going on inside him, he suddenly wanted a meal that his son-in-law was enjoying.
"Why silence?! You don't want to share your husband's food with dad?"
Rama's words awaken Laura from her attitude. With a clumsy move, he picked up a few buds of sandwiches. "Of course not dad, Laura was just surprised by dad's new breakfast menu" he said grinning ignorantly.
Rama received the plate containing the sandwich while snorting. The tail of his eyes saw his sister and sister-in-law trying to refrain from smiling.
"Stop looking at me. I just wanted to try out out of curiosity" Rama said, not caring about his family's strange gaze.
The man bit his sandwich. His eyebrows shot up as his tongue tasted the delicious taste of the blend of bread and tuna. While under the table there, Sabiel's fingers tightly knit his wife's fingers. They held on as if channeling a sense of happiness over the unexpected attitude of Laura's father. Sabiel feels Laura's father is starting to accept her as part of the family. His heart warmed just by thinking that way.
