Chapter 29
"You're not going to run away, are you? We have agreed to this agreement" Constan said.
"I'm only worried about one thing" Dygta said before they reached the doorstep of Peters' residence.
"What's that?" constan asked worriedly looking at Dygta who was standing in front of him.
"That's about Limin" Dygta replied, puzzling himself with what he was trying to convey. "Will he not object to all this? He doesn't like me very much. And ...," Dygta's speech was interrupted.
"And what?" Constan looked curiously at Dygta.
Dygta looked down at the ground. He thought, if Limin found out about their agreement, he would be furious with Dygta. He's been quiet for a long time. Constan then held onto Dygta's shoulder.
"Is Limin angry last night at you wearing that jacket?"
"Yes." Yeah."
"You must be so tired of dealing with people like him. Scold you with an unclear problem."
Dygta looked at Constan somewhat stunned, and Constan simply smiled with it. "You don't worry about Limin. I'll talk to him now you better come in and have breakfast."
They walked together until the front of the house. Constan wants to see his grandmother. When Dygta wanted to enter the dining room, his hands became trembling looking at Manner who was there while reading the newspaper. The limin is still invisible. Manner's usual circumstances and attitude he showed, only this time not with a warm smile.
"You just got home?" manner said, staring at Dygta's messy hair in the wind.
“Yes,” Dygta replied nervously while taking the bread that was on the table and then smearing it with butter.
“I think you're out with Constan.”
“Ya, you're right.”
“Can I find out what happened?” he asked calmly which radiated in the look of his face. “As long as you're at my house, you're my responsibility, aren't you?”
“Nothing happened, Manner. Constan thinks I can get a role in his new play, which is why he came to see me this morning. He asked me if I would let him go to his director in London.”
“And you will go there?”
“Yes, I approve it.”
“Oh, so.” Manner held the spoon and he put it on the table. “You are usually not happy with Constan's presence, and you also always put on a frightened face because of him. Isn't it scary for you, Dygta?”
“I was terrified of her, but that was when I had amnesia. I'm scared of anyone who has anything to do with the stage, the stage, you know that, Manner,”.
“Is it like that?” Manner looked at him with a grim face. “However, Constan is not only concerned with that alone. He was the son of someone who deliberately sought death by drowning himself, because he was too weak to face life, because he could not make his wife happy, so his wife spoke would leave him. Maybe he didn't mean for his wife to die either, and that shadow pervaded Constan, which always somberly him. His inner attitude that became very difficult to guess. A man who is very hard to believe because he is really unbelievable.” Manner's remarks reminded Dygta who Constan was and the attitude the man had. He wishes Dygta remembered how unkind Constan is.
Dygta looked at Manner with a strange and surprised look as if he had just been scolded by his father.
Manner immediately got up and approached Dygta. “I want to tell you this during, Dygta. You know, I'm in Plymouth talking to Max a lot. And it's very attention-grabbing. He has a clinic in Toronto, Canada, and he has the same method he used there as the one I used. Max invited me to go there a while ago. Maybe I'll go there, how about you come with me?”
“Cute with you?” dygta asked stunned by his invitation. “Canada? But, Manner...”.
“Yes, why not? We can change that trip as a two-way street,” Manner said holding Dygta's hand warmly. This is so weird. After last night, he saw Manner change his attitude. Now he has returned to a gentle attitude towards himself.
“No!” Dygta jerked his hand violently to escape. “It's not that easy! That's not true! Didn't you see this morning, I. I don't know what I'm gonna do. I was very worried and Constan came. Worse I promised to go to London with him.”
“Constan. He's very hard to guess. How can I explain about him so you understand what I mean,.”.
“You have tried to explain about him,” Dygta said. “And you talked about him. Even your grandmother told me about it. I only know and understand that she spoke to me this morning softly. He made things not hopeless by asking me to go to London with him. Meet with the director. And I won't waste that chance, Manner.”
“Alright!” said Manner turned around while taking the tobacco pipe and putting it in his mouth. “Alright, if that's what you want. It was your decision for your life ahead. I'm not forcing myself on you.” Manner walked towards the door. He turned around before passing from there, “How about Limin, does he already know what Constan means?”
“Limin? He will tell it later.”
“Maybe Limin won't be too happy to hear it later,” Manner shrugged both his shoulders.
“Of course not. I already told him that Limin would not be happy to hear it.”
“Then? Then what would you do if it all failed?” Manner looked at Dygta's eyes.
“I..., I didn't think about it. Anyway I don't think it's gonna be like that. I guess whatever people think of Constan, he won't stop his will.” Dygta smiled faintly then immediately added, “They won't get in the way, will they?”
Manner insisted. “Limin will probably do it. She is really pretty, and Constan is a normal guy who can easily change her heart.”
“I'm just worried you'll have your amnesia again. I'm just afraid it's happening to you. If you face that situation again, what about the mental gripping you like the previous incident.”
“But I can't disappoint Constan, Manner!” dygta said again. “He will be very disappointed.”
“It won't be possible! Since when can Constan feel disappointment? He is immune to things that can hurt his heart. He was getting colder and colder with his cold attitude. She did not even cry when she told him that her parents had died. I know, because I was with him at that time. I'm the only one crying over his mother!”
“No, Manner, the one who can cry is lucky,” Dygta shook his head.
“Yes, you are absolutely right!” Manner looked at Dygta's eyes deeply. “Do I have to cry because I can't take you to Canada with me? Will it make me feel better tomorrow?”
Before Dygta answered Manner had already opened the door and left the place by slamming the door hard. Dygta lama sat dumbstruck while looking at the door that was slammed hard. Maybe Manner's hope came back, but it didn't happen.
