Chapter 2.9: Battle of Chloe Village (1)

Tonight was really boisterous.

I was completely awake from my sleep when a knight knocked on the door of my inn room loudly tonight. Of course, my room is next to Rhea's. So, he was awake too.

“Sleep soundly, Hizashi?”

The voice of Rhea who had just woken up sounded in my ear.

“Not really. I'm not sleeping.”

“Eh? How can?” Rhea asked with a loud voice. “Now it's late at night, you know!”

The grounds at Baron Oliver's residence were very crowded. About thirty knights of Baron Oliver and the bandits and adventurers present in Chloe Village had gathered.

“Because of that,” Baron Oliver continues, “we will be conducting a defensive attack on the village tonight as well. I'll split it into ten squads for now. Five squads to guard at each village border, three squads to guard inside and help security against the residents, and the rest will be the infiltration division.”

Baron Oliver then divided it all up with a flat army. Of the roughly one hundred total strength, all of them were divided into ten squads. Each squad was made up of ten men combined from bandits and knights. Rhea was assigned to the defense squad outside the village—dia under the command of Frostle who was the head of the squad, while I was in the infiltration squad together with Baron Oliver.

“Hizashi. I put you in the line of intruders. You mind?”

I'm shaking. “I'm willing.”

“Good.” Baron Oliver smiled faintly.

While the other squads were already heading towards their respective fighting positions, we who were members of the intruder squad gathered next to the village gate wall. Similarly, Nos and Hid are also members of the intruder squad on the village defense this time.

“You all follow me later. We're gonna dig a hole out of here with magic. Nos will dig a hole with his magic. While we're gonna go in and dig a hole back into their camp. In short, we are trying to perform a shock attack from deep in the ground.”

Baron Oliver and Nos then moved both of his palms and stuck them on the ground. Instantly, the ground was shaken and formed a large hole slowly like a landslide. It seemed like it was enough for twenty people to enter once.
