Chloe Village.
This village is beautiful. I can't deny it. The village located in Duke Verdum's territory was truly beautiful.
Starting from our arrival there, we liked it a lot, especially me, Rhea, and also my colleague Hizashi. The scenery is beautiful, the expanse of grasslands and trees adorn the village, especially when dusk in the sky.
This village is actually already like a city, because the population is very crowded. However, its size is still lacking to be said as a city. They would have to expand by about thirteen square miles. They are more fitting when said to be districts
The villagers as usual were friendly towards us the immigrants. The majority of the villagers here work as farmers and ranchers, but there are also some who work as blacksmiths and various other craft professions.
Ironically, there were only fifty official knights guarding Chloe Village and the rest of Baron Oliver's territory. They were recruited and trained by Baron Oliver himself after graduating from the Narcius Military Academy. Therefore, they can still guard Baron Oliver's territory until now even though his strength is only a fraction of the number of soldiers belonging to Verdum Hobart.
This time, Baron Oliver had just added another fifty members of the new army. The new squad members were all members of the Frostle bandits, including Frostle Deccenti himself. Since Hizashi said that he would help defend Baron Oliver's territory, Frostle proposed that they become additional troops in the face of Verdum's invasion.
Duke Verdum certainly doesn't know about Hizashi siding with Chloe. I don't think he even knew that the Bookmagus he was looking for was Hizashi himself. Although he could firmly lead one large territory, he could not catch the little rats that roamed his territory.
Why am I saying this? From the moment I saw her status, she already possessed immense and dangerous power. However, many people still do not realize it. He might just be able to be king in the midst of useless disputes like this—Hobart and Ceilos—regardless of his rather “howo” behavior.
Despite this, I still fear the threat of Duke Verdum being this hefty danger. It's possible that Chloe survived. But not with other areas. They could end up like the ruins of Nivuerde Castle not far from Dynoseus. I don't want to see that happen. As a knight who serves the kingdom, I cannot simply let this showdown happen.
But I'm still not strong enough.
I did work at Vandr. It was Duke Balthazar of Vandr himself who appointed me knight in Hillus at that time when I graduated from the academy in the Capital. But now I can't do anything. I could even lose to the knights of Verdum who attempted to attack Hillus at that time.
Therefore, I will prove it.
* * *
Too bad, it seems like my quiet night has just been destroyed.
“The village has been attacked!”
The screams of a knight who went around the whole village that night woke everyone up. The fathers at the head of the family had prepared with their makeshift weapons to protect their children. The mothers tried to protect their children and hugged them while heading to a safe place - none other than Baron Oliver's residence.
I—of course—have prepared with my gear. I now use my status as an adventurer, not as a knight.
I didn't want to do it because I wanted to hone my own skills and my own fighting style. Therefore, I disguised my identity as a knight. Otherwise, I will be told to join the ranks and form a formation and follow their strategy. I don't think I'll be able to thrive there. I also enjoy myself as an adventurer. Therefore, this is my chance.
“Who attacked?” ask the knight.
“I don't know for sure.” said. “They carry the royal flag and torch,”
My guess is correct. Duke Verdum has attacked us.
