Rainbow After the Storm

Rainbow After the Storm
CHAPTERS 17. PREVENTED

"Rainbow, how are your Papa and Mama?" Papa repeated his question seeing the rainbow just silent.

"Pa, as I said earlier, this rainbow lives alone. Her parents are dead." Gerald answered.

Makes mom and dad really surprised. All this time they are still waiting for the arrival of his two friends even though there is no hope to fulfill the promise of the past. However, it turns out that his two best friends never came because they had died.

"Rainbow, what caused your Papa and Mama to die? I mean, are they sick?" Ask papa again.

Mom was no longer able to speak. Not to lose his surprise knowing if Rainbow had ever been pregnant and miscarried, now coupled with the fact that the two friends who had promised to come after their children grew up turned out to have died.

"My dad and mom died on the spot in an accident, Om." Answer Rainbows.

There was a heavy sigh of papa while rubbing his face, even with the mother who returned to lean her body on the sofa.

In a moment when the room was silent, only four pairs of eyes occasionally glanced at each other.

Gerald was eager to get close to the Rainbow, but getting a sharp glare from his mama made his guts shrink and finally just sat glued in place.

After feeling better, my mother re-enforced her sitting position. The middle-aged woman was seen several times sighing as she glanced at Gerald and Rainbow alternately.

"Gerald, Rainbow, there's something Mama wants to tell you both. It's about our past promise with his parents Rainbow. Even though it's too late and Mama feels it's no longer possible to fulfill that promise, but Mama will still tell you both. That the two of you were actually betrothed when you were little. But because of the silly request of Bagas and Ayu who challenged us at that time, we never met again."

Rainbow and Gerald were flabbergasted to hear the mama's words. For a moment the two tried to digest, but in the next second Rainbow lowered his head while smiling wryly. Fate plays with his life. His parents apparently had arranged for him as a child, but when he met his childhood soul mate in a state that seems no longer possible. Moreover, his mother Gerald said 'it seems no longer possible to fulfill that promise'. And the rainbow understood what it meant. It's clear Gerald's mother won't approve of him with Gerald after knowing the facts about him. Which parents want to have a daughter-in-law with a bad past.

Unlike Gerald, the man seemed enthusiastic to approach the mother after knowing that he and Rainbow had been betrothed as a child.

"Ma, it's not too late and the promise can still be fulfilled. Look Ma, me and Rainbow have been found, and what else?" Gerald looked at his mother with sparkling eyes.

"Gerald, if only the Rainbow hadn't... My mom would be happy to keep that promise. But now that things are different, it feels like Mama can't accept Rainbow as a daughter-in-law after finding out..." Mama really has no power to mention about Rainbows who have been pregnant and miscarried.

Gerald immediately edged down from the sofa he sat on rested in front of the mother. Grasping tightly the hand of the woman who had given birth to him, and looking at him with full supplication. Even Gerald was not at all ashamed to plead with his mother in front of the Rainbow.

"Gerald, all this time Mama and Papa always obey whatever you want, but not this time." Mama immediately turned her face away from Gerald's pleading gaze.

"Ma, just for once I beg you to fulfill my request. I promise you that Mama will bless me and Rainbow. We'll live a simple life without any facilities from Mama and Papa."

Both eyes Rainbow already glazed to see Gerald struggle to get blessing. The woman felt unbearable to see her lover continue to plead without caring.

"Gerald already, there's no need to beg like that just for me. Maybe we are only friends in the past, and for the present we should live our lives. And thank you for your help all along."

"No rainbow, don't talk like that." Gerald shook his head.

The rainbow moved from his seat. "Om, Auntie, I'm sorry to disturb her peace today, I'm so sorry."

Just a few steps away, the Rainbow snapped as the burly hand pulled it.

"Already Gerald, do not be a child of disobedience for defying parents. You should be thankful you still have Papa and Mama, not like I'm just a kara." After that Rainbow pulled his hand quite firmly, and resumed his steps after his hand slipped from Gerald's grasp.

"Rainbow...

"Ma, I beg you please stop the Rainbow from leaving." Gerald was still begging, but the mother did not care.

"Ma, the rainbow has no one else. After losing all his property he lived in the apartment I gave him. But after this she must have left that apartment, did Mama have no pity on the Rainbow who would be stranded out there alone."

But my mom doesn't care about me either. The two middle-aged ones did not even hear his son's plea.

"Well if Mama and Papa still don't approve of me and Rainbow. But I'm still going after Rainbow, I don't care if Mama and Papa cross my name even in the family list." After saying that Gerald turned around, with quick steps he left the room following Rainbow.

Even Gerald willingly when referred to as a child of defiance because it does not obey parents to pursue his love.

Just as Rainbow was about to get into the taxi, Gerald caught up with his girlfriend. He pulled out Rainbow's hand and closed the taxi's door and asked the taxi driver to leave after giving away hundreds of bills.

"Gerald what are you doing?"

"I'm just fighting for my love, I'm pretty sure my happiness is with you. Even without my parents' blessing, we'll stay together."

"Don't be crazy, Gerald. A relationship will not run harmoniously without parental blessing in it. And I wouldn't be with you if there wasn't your parents' blessing. So let's just forget each other, let's just say we never met."

The rainbow again stopped a passing taxi and times would not let Gerald stop him again to leave. The rainbow forcefully pushed Gerald's body before the man came back against him.

Gerald's body staggered backwards, almost hitting the fence if the papa did not immediately hold his body.

"Ma,"

"Wait, Rainbow!"

The rainbow that had just opened the taxi door and was about to enter, was immediately startled with a loud enough cry calling out his name. He looked, and his mother Gerald walked towards him.

"Are you just going to leave Gerald with such great love for you?"

"Sorry Aunt, I just don't want Gerald to be a dissident child just because of a woman like me. If I were an aunt, I would want the best for my son and would find a better woman for him." Rainbow with a flat face. Truly he wanted to leave immediately and spill all the tightness in his chest and the tears that he had sustained.

Mama sighed, it turns out Rainbow is quite self-conscious and it seems he was too selfish as if closing his eyes.

Remembering her husband's words a moment ago, she finally understood a little if her son would never be happy with his actions.

"You don't want Gerald to be a dissident child, nor do we want to be a selfish parent pawning the happiness of our Son just because of your past."
