71. Lost in the Forest (20)

Head's dizzy.  Everywhere I see dark circles.  Stretched his feet near the fire.  His body is like a cheer.  Something feels coming from within.  Maybe he fainted.  Then his stomach lost control until ***************have dirt.  He snorted furiously.

After calmly removing the entire clothing, the bare round crawled towards the torrent of rushing water that flowed from the mountain slope.  Hanging underwear on the core of the cliff so that the swift washing of the current.

It returns to the fire, enveloping the body with mosquito wire, as the mosquito inevitably takes the opportunity of stinging every inch of bare skin.

A herd of monkeys gathered in the trees around him.  There were two large groups, one herd of small-bodied monkeys and one herd of large-bodied scribe monkeys, which could roar like tigers.

At first he was afraid they would gather to make calculations for the monkeys they killed during the trip.  Then he feared that they might seize his precious provisions, and all the goods were gathered around him by the fire.  Staggered it runs into a niche taking ************* that the stream has cleared.

The monkey watched him with curiosity.  They were no longer afraid and approached him.  They don't seem to have any evil plans.  More likely this is the first time they see a monkey look as funny as him.  What occurred to him was only one, it would be nice to be able to trap one.

After being smoked overnight, he had a meat supply for two weeks.

He had time to weigh in to throw with a stone, but it would be useless.  He was too weak, but his movements were very fast.  For hours they watched them play circus at the top of the trees, focusing all their thoughts so that one of them misses from the branch and falls with his head first.

Tried to say a prayer of supplication, “May anyone fall, even one is enough.  Please, make the monkey fall,” but it doesn't work.  The monkeys managed to perform their routine actions without any interference.

When it was dark, he was overcome with fear.  He was completely unarmed, having nothing to protect himself but fire.  What if he falls asleep tonight and the fire goes out?  What if there was a tiger waiting not far from the cave to ambush him all of a sudden?  What's to be done?  He looked for a long pole that could be used as a spear, but all the branches around him were dry and fragile.

In helplessness and fear, more wood was gathered to make fire.  Suddenly he got a brilliant idea.  In a film he once saw that spray cans could be used as flamethrowers.

Removing cans of insect repellent liquid and lighters from backpacks.  Pressing the spray button with the right hand then turning on the lighter produces a large flame.  Prepared all self-defense tools spray cans, lighters, flashlights, snake antivenom serum.

That night he lay by the fire.

Again he hallucinated.  Rian crawled up to him in the dark.  He saw the fire and found it sleeping.  He knew he had eaten some rice and beans.

“You should have shared, Made.  You always have to share,” whispered Rian.  “There's not enough food for both of us, so you're thinking of leaving here without me?”

Rian smiled to himself, lifted the machete, then slashed it into his skull.

“Do not, do!”

He trembled in fear while whimpering.  The flames presented a terrifying shadow.  Outside the range of the fire light there were only forests and darkness.

“The one who acts, the one who acts,” whispers over and over while curling up inside the mosquito wire.

*

He was alone for five days in the forest.  Never before had he felt so lonely and completely disconnected from human relations.  It feels unbearable.  For the first time in life it is fully realized how much it needs the presence of another human being.

He remembers reading a book in which there are the sentences “people who need others.”  Everyone must learn to live alone, the author concluded, completely independent of others, happiness and security must arise from oneself.

When he read the book first, he agreed.  Now that he realized the truth about the characters in the book, he was easy to be cynical.  Made would love to see how he behaves when he's in his position right now.

He must continue the journey.  Physically he is healthier, his fever is gone, his legs are better.  He made the soup again from a spoonful of rice and a spoonful of beans, then spent until there was not a little left at the bottom of the can.

After sitting near the fire to study the map, it was estimated that the distance to the destination could be estimated.  Hopefully this distance can be reached in a day walk.  Rian will be waiting for him.  It seems logical to do this.  Rian must have been trying to get to his destination as well.  Just like it seemed, Rian knew at the destination there was shelter and food.  They must have met at the destination.  That was if Rian was still alive.

He began to lose hope that he was still alive.  Maybe he couldn't walk, drowned in the river, or broke a bone.  Even if he didn't drown, his clothes would be wet, but he couldn't make a fire like Made.  Then, how's his leg?  He believed Rian had a rash like the one Made had, but he had no medicine and no food.

Rian could starve to death.  His poor friend must be cold at night.  He feels very evil.

For the first time his mind wandered far away.  In this mind he felt that he had been saved from the forest.  He made it to a village.  After that, he took a plane to another city.  Made calls Rian's family to report Rian's death, but still has a debt to explain personally what happened and how it happened.  The hardest part was facing Rian's parents.

Made to get there by bus.  The journey in the city takes three days by land.  Every few hours the bus stops so passengers can rest and eat at McDonald’s.  He walked into the restaurant like the other passengers, but when he arrived at the counter Made ordered four burgers, six bags of fries, two large-sized milkshakes, three pieces of apple pie.

The booking department thought Made was ordering food for one group, in fact he was sitting alone.  Biting the burger, the cheese melted, the onion and the pickle made a crisp sound.  The milk quickly runs out.  The other bookers looked dumbstruck.  They had never seen anyone eat like that.

Finally he arrived at Rian's parents' house.

“Please believe me, this is not my fault.  I waited five days, but he didn't show up.  I put food aside for her, I don't eat it myself.  I kept calling.  Every day I wait for him to never show up.  I had to continue the journey.  Trust me, I have no other choice.”
