65. Lost in the Forest (14)

Persuading Lili to cancel her intention turned out to be quite easy.  Lili has not given up on catching fish.  Lili came when she tried to catch a small fish on the river bank.

“You're right, Li,” said someone.  “He does intend to continue the journey on the raft.  He just told me that he felt very disappointed that he had to just continue the journey on foot.”

“He intends to go alone?” ask Lili in shock.

“Ya,” sahut the guy.  “I think it's instinct, a great way to die, but he's stubborn indeed.  Nothing can change his resolve.  If you insist on going alone, he has no chance of succeeding alive, so one of us must accompany to help him.”

“Only one” asked Lili.  “Why not the two of us?”

“Actually I also don't mind traveling with Kiki.  I'm tired of walking in the woods and tired of this river.  I'm ready to walk, but if there's no other choice, I'm willing to continue with him.  Both of us can definitely.”

“I have no intention of letting him kill himself.  Actually, I'd rather you go.  Your feet hurt, but it's better to take a raft than walk.  How about you come with her while I walk with Kiki?”

“Please,” protest Lili.  “Gue don't want to go alone with him.  You've seen how he treats me.  Sorry, I chose Kiki.”

“Means I'm the one who should come with him.”

Everything's settled.

Hurriedly looking for someone else, proudly telling her how to drive Lili made the decision according to their plan.  Someone else seemed to be staring.

“So,” he said later, “it's time we open the card.”

They come to Kiki and tell him the plan to continue the journey alone.  Not only was Kiki not even angry or trying to change their intentions.  He only showed concern and warned of any danger they might encounter.

Someone else asked without shady aling-aling, “That list might be skipped or not?”

“I told you.  On both sides of the river the surface of the reef is towering perpendicular.  Once you get there, you can't stop because the current will immediately take you to the death stream.”

“What's the danger? Can it be skipped or not?” ask that someone.

Kiki scoffed at the word.  “Same as no.  Four even trained rowers won't even consider trying it, while you two.  It's called suicide.  The place was called dangerous for the right reasons.  Anyone entering the flow area can expect to meet directly with the gatekeeper of the afterlife.”

“Kok you can know a lot?” ask someone suspiciously.

“I've seen people pass through it from someone.”

“There is no way of knowing where we should look for that road and how far can we go if we take the raft?”

“If it were just the two of you couldn't.  The only thing you can do is stop before reaching the canyon and leave the raft there.  If you make it through the flow area, you will arrive.  Currently there is no one there because at the end of the dry season the miners have gone home on a raft.”

“Every year, before going home they cut down trees and leave them there to dry, so they are ready to use for next year.  Once there you just look for adhesive straps and make a small raft of dry spindles.  From there the flow of the river is nice and smooth, you will not get into trouble.”

“If you are actually making a raft, do not forget to cut down some trees in exchange for the logs you take Not a hard job, and the action is considered reasonable by the villagers.  If you are interested, you can gain gold, if sought carefully, around there must be digging tools and reinforcement, there is a banana garden even you can fish.  Miners leave everything there.”

The patience of another is diminished.  “Kiki, get to the point.  How to make sure the right place to stop before entering the canyon and next to where we should find that path?”

“Contact bro.”  Kiki laughs.  “Let's watch him so you don't speed beyond the speed limit on the river.”

“This river.  From here the journey is difficult, but if you are ready to take the risk of riding a raft, you save two days of walking.  The mouth of the canyon cannot be missed.  You will see one large island full of tall trees right in the middle of the river.”

“On the left there is a narrow land, that's where you stop, Don't forget.  Once you see the island, start pulling over.  If it is difficult, just swim.  Under no circumstances, do not go into the harmful part.”

“Oke, don't be afraid.  We're not going there.”

“So we rode the raft up on the big island, on the left of the river there is land.  The road is there?”

“Tap.”

“How long can we approach the canyon?”

“Depends.  About two hearts if the road has met, but it could be longer if it is full of bushes.”

Someone else thought for a while, then turned to his other friend and asked, “How do you think?”

“My grandmother could do it.”

Kiki and someone else started to split their equipment.

“You need a machete,” Kiki said.  “If not, it is impossible to make a raft.  Maybe we'll have a hard time breaking through the forest without a machete, but we can do it with a knife.  As for the rifle, you need..”.

“You take the shotgun and the bullet, we won't need it,” between someone else.  “We definitely didn't have time to hunt, so we took the fishing line and hook.  Anyway bullets can get wet in the river.”

“Good,” welcome Kiki agree. “because we got a rifle you can take away most of the food.  I'm sure we can get a lot of hunting.  Bring nylon too so that your equipment stays dry.  Since it is impossible to make a tent without a machete, we take that small tent,” Kiki closed.

Kiki and someone else were trying to sense the condition of the river.  He swam downstream and returned on foot through the forest.

“Not too good,” said.  “A quarter of a mile downstream already feels dangerous flow.  I hope we don't get in trouble when we get through it later.”

“Most,” says someone else.  “If you want to adventure, we enjoy in the right way.”

“Don't be silly,” snapped his friend.  “I have no intention of taking unnecessary risks.  I know rivers can be very dangerous.  On the raft later, listen and follow my words.”

“It turns out I replaced one tyrant with another tyrant,” Lili said inwardly, despite knowing someone was right.  Lili was acting silly, but it was just to hide her fear.

Kiki woke up first as usual and then woke the three of them up because they wanted to start the journey early in the morning.

The atmosphere was filled with tension.  Lili's busy taking care of backpacks.  Kiki joked a little, tried to pump up her spirits, but it didn't pay off much.  Finally they were ready, each carrying a backpack.  In Kiki's belt hang rifles and knives in exchange for machetes he gave them.

“Well, done already.  Time for us to go,” Kiki said.  “I prefer to travel the opposite riverbank.  Will you be kind enough to take us on a raft so that Lili's feet are not wet?”

“That's my hope,” Kiki said.  “As long as my feet are dry, I can walk.  If it gets wet again, the skin must have peeled off.”

After taking Kiki and Lili down by the river, they shook hands.  Kiki jokingly said she hoped they wouldn't be fish bait tomorrow.  He gave a final warning.
