67. Lost in the Forest (16)

They climbed up the rocks and approached the raft.  Rian told Made to tie a paddle so as not to be dragged by the current.  Made looked at the waterfall on their left.  Water spilled ten to twelve feet.  My God, why didn't Made just choose to go back with Kiki and Lili?

Made's legs are shaking.  If they could turn right, they would have made it through this section.  They tried to remove the raft from the rock in all the ways it thought, pushed, pulled, paddled, cocked the raft with a pole, but were helpless against the current.  Raft bergeming.

Rian quickly assessed their situation.

“See not much chance the water current could bring out of here.  The distance to the river is not too far away.  The waterfall is on our left, the distance to the edge of the river on the left is not too far too.  The river is narrow, the current is unusually strong.  Do you understand what that means?  The mentioned canyon must have started here.  We must be very close to the river.  If you managed to reach the mainland, maybe afterwards we can walk by crossing the canyon by land.”

Rian was silent for a moment while looking around before finally making a decision.

“We have no choice.  I'll try to go to the right side.  After I make it, throw a machete at me.  I'm going to the woods to cut the vines, and then I'll throw them at you.  Use the plant to tie up all our backpacks and pass them to me, then tie yourself up so I pull.”

“Don't go there, Rian, too dangerous.  Wait a minute,” I said.

Rian did not hesitate a bit.  The removal of shoes and socks.

“I must have succeeded, Made,” cried Rian, then threw himself into the river.

The power of the current instantly carried him away.  A moment his figure disappeared, then poked again.  He was dragged to the rock downstream, grabbed the rock to hold on, and from there made it to the riverbank.

Made breathed a sigh of relief, but immediately held his breath as I felt the raft I stepped on move, slowly detaching from the stone cupping.

“Rian! Rian! The raft's cracked!”

The raft shifted slowly.  Rian quickly ran towards Made.

“Throw my shoes fast!”

Made automatically obeyed Rian's orders, throwing shoes at him with all his might.  Both of his shoes landed on the rocky riverbank.  Now the raft is almost completely off and moving towards the waterfall.  Made's entire body trembled as he stared at Rian with a horrified look as he pleaded.  Rian hurriedly put on his shoes.

“Throw machetes!” shout Rian.

The large blade whizzed as it split through the air, then fell thumping on the ground.  The raft keeps shifting.

“You left me, Rian!”

“Later kususul.  Anyway grip! Quick handle!”

The raft detaches from the rock, falling perpendicular to the waterfall.  Made could feel the river waves beneath him.  He gripped the leather rope.  Made slammed into the air, the raging water swallowing his screams.

In the middle of the water Made felt helpless as a leaf fell.  The moment of horror continued, then suddenly ended with a loud noise.  The raft carries it down below the surface of the water.  Darkness immediately enveloped him.  His lungs were burning.  Made out of air.

“God help me.”

Made thought this was the end of everything.  Then Made found himself on the surface of the water.  The raft floats.  While jerking his head to circulate a view, Rian was seen running after Made from a distance not far away.  Relief enveloped Made.

“Wait for you when you get on land later!” made shouted while waving.

Rian did not hear Made's words, but he waved back as he continued to run.

Suddenly Rian realized where he was now.  Made had already entered the canyon, slammed into the rock, slanted to the side, thrown into the waterfall, and swept away the frothy currents.  Made desperately clung to the raft, closing his eyes while praying.

Then the raft sank again.  Made went into the sunset, slamming so violently into the rocks that it was twice thrown into the air, landed in the water, terrified of being tormented by the ferocity of the river, sucked into its depths.

If it hit the rock again, its body would have been blown to pieces.  Made out of oxygen.  After appearing again to the surface turned out to be a raft not far from him.  Made managed to grab it and ride it.

The death dance continues.  The ocean currents are incredibly strong.  The raft was dragged as fast as lightning.  On the river there is a small bend.  After that, although still far away, he saw a rock mountain in the middle of the water, almost blocking the entire width of the river.

The slapping water of the rock mountain accompanied a great rumble.  White foam rolled at the foot of the walking cliff, a whirlpool of white froth-tipped foam rolling at the foot of the terrifying precipitous cliff.  Made sure must have failed to pass through the rock mountain.

I laid my body on the raft with my face to the back of the raft so I wouldn't see when death approached.  Made tight-fitting eye-splitting, gripping the rope with the rest of the force.

Impact occurred.  I felt nothing, just floated in the air and landed again in the water with my eyes still closed.  Made's body was sucked into the dark water for a long time.  Pressure can be felt in the ears, nose, and cavities.  My chest is about to explode.

Again, an invisible hand snatches Made out of the current and at the right time pulls him to the surface.  Made raised his head, panting for air, as much as possible, before he was dragged back down.

Far back there could be seen the stone mountain was moving backwards.  It's hard to believe, it turned out he got through it.  But, how is it?  Made did not feel pain, nor was he injured.  Miraculous.

The raft was not far in front of him.  Eclipse.  Made made it up to the rest of the raft.  The leather strap was broken, so Made had nothing to hold.  Made should be able to reach the helper raft.  Rescue backpack can't be lost.  Without it, it's impossible Made can survive.

Made jumped into the water.  Two hand paddles led him to a life raft.  Again his body slammed into the walls of the canyon, the difference this time Made did not have a raft strong and wide to protect.

The helper raft is small and narrow.  Each current dam makes this raft lifted from the water.  Once again he hit the stone so that his knee was injured.  Worse, an extremely valuable rescue backpack fell into the water.  He managed to snatch the backpack just before it was washed away, but it turned out to be heavy.  He was afraid that it would make him drown.

Tied the belt in the backpack to one of the raft logs, hoping that it could help.  Turns out he was wrong.  One more cushion, one more time splashed, the precious backpack was nodding behind him, out of range.  He couldn't take his eyes off the backpack.

“The backpack should not be lost,” he said in his heart, “whatever the risk.”

Made sure enough to have made it through the death stream area but still inside the canyon.  The steep stone walls loomed on both sides.  The river grew wider, the current grew slower, and he could swim to the edge of the river, but he couldn't just let go of his backpack.  As long as he still saw him nodding after him followed by the main raft, he did not want to swim ashore.
