Zahrana sat on the edge of her bed adorned with flowers on it. His fingers were firmly squeezing his thighs, his heart pounding that night.
Tok tok...
There was a knock three times from the outside, and although it was not answered, the door remained open. His heart rate grew stronger as the sound of footsteps came closer to him.
Zahrana bit hard on her lower lip, trying to resist the shaking that raced along with her heartbeat at that moment.
"Assalamualaikum, sister.." said someone who came, and he was none other than Ajis, the husband who just married him this afternoon.
"Wa-wa'alaikumussalam.." said Zahrana nervously. His gaze did not move, still looking down at his thighs.
Ajis sat beside Zahrana, he lowered his head for a moment, and drifted away in the silence they had created.
"Sister.." call Ajis lirih.
"L-yes, Bang.." said Zahrana without looking at all.
"What you know, our marriage is not based on a relationship that began with courtship. Destiny brought us together, brother. But, does Brother regret it?" Ajis asked as he ventured into staring fixedly at Zahrana's face.
"Ti-no, Bang... It's just, Zahra needs time." Zahrana still sounded nervous.
"Time?" Ajis's forehead frowned after hearing his wife's request.
"Yes, Bang... Actually, Zahra is not a pious woman as you can see, even though Zahra wears a robe and a veil inside though, but a good man like Abang is even met with a woman like Zahra." Zahrana is down.
Ajis smiled a little. "Abang knows what Adik means, but if Adik thinks you are looking for the perfect woman, it is definitely not his sister..."
Zahrana smiled wryly. Her husband's words offended her a little.
"All men walk the earth seeking improvement for themselves, and there is no satisfaction for it. According to my sister, maybe my brother is good... But Brother does not want to be arrogant because he feels that his kindness has been perfect. So, we are both in search of that good. Brother is a reflection of yourself, and vice versa." Ajis spoke softly, making Zahrana gasp then nod slowly.
"Believe... Wait, Brother. We pray together, yeah..."
Zahrana nodded again, then got up to do what her husband told her to do.
*****
That night was their first night as newlyweds. But they just spent it chatting with each other. About religion, family and work.
Sometimes Zahrana stole a glance at the man who had legally become her husband, but when found Ajis, she looked down again and then smiled.
"Sleep, yuk... May God wake us up in the middle of the night.
Whahuh? Sleep on? Really, she doesn't want anything tonight? He didn't even touch me by the end of a fingernail... Zahrana muttered confusedly. But he chose to obey, then lay down without removing the veil of his head covering.
Zahrana Habibah Marwan, my wife, my heavenly Angel... I will not take away your chastity until you with Ridho release it to me.
In the evening junction, Zahrana wakes up. His sleep that changed position tilted facing towards Ajis, made him immediately surprised. His body was half-awakened, and he almost cried out.
Astarghfirullah... I forgot that I was married to him... Zahrana's mind began to calm down. Even his breath was panted.
Slowly, Zahrana again lay facing her husband's face. His eyes fixed on her husband's shady face.
Handsome too... Her tan skin made her look sweet even though she was seven years older than me... Zahrana. Without realizing it, she began to smile when she observed the face of her husband who was asleep next to her.
Slowly, Ajis' eyes blinked. Zahrana's feelings were made in a way, she was caught off guard observing Ajis's face. His heart was racing, wanting to pretend to be asleep again, but it was too late. Her husband had already seen her unsettling eyes.
"Sister..." Call Azis softly with a voice still raucous. "What time is it?" She asked her husband as he got up with great difficulty gathering his consciousness. Ajis rubs both of his eyeballs while beristighfar.
Zahrana got up with her face still looking nervous.
Not getting a reply, Ajis glanced at the wall clock that was twitching on his front side. "Three o'clock less, we're Tahajud yuk..." Bring along.
Zahrana simply nodded, then rushed to prepare herself.
