Chapter 23. A Mistake

The engagement invitation was ready after going through several processes. The selection of people who entered the invitation list. Then, some more waiting for news from Daniel. The man also invites Brenda at Edward's and Sarah's request.

"It should have been written the names of Edward and Catherine" she wrote after observing the invitation bearing the names of Sarah and Daniel.

Today Sarah came to the office to accompany Edward to prepare an invitation that has been sent to the office. In addition, Daniel's shirt that was carried in the car a few days ago must also be sent to Daniel's place.

"That's right, Sarah. Do not open the card before it is all revealed. You are Sarah, Daniel's future fiancee. While Catherine is my future fiancee. It'll be a surprise for Daniel and Brenda later."

"Why should Brenda?"

"So she knew that Daniel chose his past over her" Edward said with a smile on his lips.

"I don't think it's easy, honey. Brenda loves Daniel. He'll fight to get it."

Edward's eyes narrowed. She didn't know Sarah had observed that much detail. However, he also looks not jealous when talking about Daniel and Brenda. That's because Sarah's hatred has overcome her love or care in the past.

"You knew?"

"Yes, a few days ago Brenda came to the office. He asked Daniel to change his decision. I didn't know Brenda was inside. Then, I went in and called Daniel with that disgusting call."

"disgusting?"

"Yes. I have to pretend to care by calling her dear. That sucks for me!" Sarah's upset.

"Yes, after that I was jealous if I were in that place. I'm sorry, I'm too sensitive to things related to you, honey." Edward nodded for a moment.

If Sarah and Edward were having a friendly conversation, it would be the same with Daniel. He had just put down his phone after looking at a picture of Sarah there. Unbeknownst to the girl, Daniel steals her photo suddenly and uses it as wallpaper on his phone.

"I can't wait for our engagement, honey. I wonder, why is it so quick to change hearts from Brenda to you? You are beautiful and very attractive. I like it" muttered Daniel.

Door knocked. Daniel thinks it's his employee or maybe Sarah's coming. It turned out that it was the receptionist who delivered the courier with a few items in her hands.

"Sir, sorry we came straight here. This is a package from Miss Sarah and some invitation boxes" the receptionist said.

"Oh, yeah, geez. I forgot that this dress was left there. Thank you" Daniel told the courier and receptionist after opening the package. They left the room after that. Apparently there was a message of love that Sarah delivered for him.

There is a happy image in Daniel. Moreover, the plan to challenge Sarah looks so easy. However, his daydream ended when the door opened and revealed the face of another woman standing there.

"Sorry, I'm coming again, Daniel. I can't accept the decision you made the other day. Why did you do that to me?" ask Brenda.

Instead of answering, Daniel was busy opening a box with an invitation. His appearance was very neat and in accordance with the list of sequences that Daniel had given to Edward.

"I don't think you need to talk anymore, Brenda. This is enough to prove everything that our relationship is over!" Daniel placed an engagement invitation on behalf of his former lover.

Brenda took it and opened the contents. His eyes widened when he saw the engagement date. Three days from today. Brenda closes the invitation and turns to Daniel's face.

"So you're building a commitment to someone new, Daniel? Isn't this too rushed?" Pain, jealousy, and disappointment. Of course it was not easy for Brenda who for two years even crashed with the arrival of women as beautiful as Sarah. "You don't regret giving this easy decision? I think your desire to have Sarah is not love, but obsession. Yeah, I'm self-aware that Sarah is more than anything else, but I've loved you for the last two years, Daniel. I've also tried to stay afloat even though you're still wishing for me to be with Catherine at the time."

Daniel closed his eyes for a moment. Catherine's shadow suddenly appeared. Doesn't look sad, but instead laughs at her now. It was as if every smile, laughter, and noise about the woman showed just how humiliating Brenda's current attitude was. Begging for a second chance.

"There's no second chance for our relationship, Brenda. I hope you can understand. Come to my engagement party because there will be a lot of reporters covering it. If you feel disappointed, it is better to watch from electronic media. Maybe it's better than you coming or planning to break my dream engagement."

"Omong empty! I thought you liked me for being sincere, but you turned out to be crazy for popularity. I hope it's not just a dream because Sarah likes you. It doesn't matter I'm coming and don't worry that I won't bother you. However, someday when you really fall, the first person who actually cares is me. Not anymore. I only hope that destruction will come your way!" The expression of resentment towards Daniel made Brenda unable to hold back. The man she loved was nothing more than a criminal.

"You cursed me?"

"It's not a curse, Daniel. Only the prayers of the woman you hurt. That'sthat's all. I never took you away from Catherine either, but it was you who forced me into your arms. Doesn't matter. You are free to do that to others, but I will be the first to laugh at your suffering. You think Edward's gonna give you his sister for free?"

Feeling humiliated, Daniel who initially closed the contents of the prenuptial agreement with Sarah then dismantled it in front of Brenda.

"That's impossible, Brenda! Edward gave me the shares after we got married. After that, I had to have two children since their existence was already guaranteed by Edward."

"really? I think it was just a dream, Daniel. Have you forgotten that something that is obtained easily will cause something terrible? Sometimes what we stand for and let go of makes people almost go crazy. What about momentary pleasure? Think of it like a dream. Don't mind anything I say because I just want to make you think it's just a trick. I hope you'll wake up!"

Brenda doesn't mean to scare Daniel, but she just wants Daniel to come to his senses and come back to the fact that letting go of himself for the sake of others is a mistake.
