“Since knowing Jack as if your life only existed Jack, Clara.”
Tiffany looked at Clara with a sharp gaze, while the one being talked about as if not heard because it was so focused on staring at the screen of her phone. Tiffany took a deep breath, her patience was always tested. Six months his best friend had known a man named Jack Hilton, and six months that Clara too so often ignored him.
“Clara, you hear me?!”
“Ohh, ah.. Tiffs. You said something?”
Tiffany took another deep breath, while Clara, who saw Tiffany's annoyed face, smiled, revealing her row of neat teeth. After all he could not get angry at Clara, the girl was so innocent as to be scolded.
“Forget.”
Tiffany said flatly, Clara just nodded and refocused on her phone screen. I don't know what Jack talked about with Clara made the girl seem to forget the real world.
Ting!
As the elevator doors opened, Clara and Tiffany walked to the office exit. The office schedule was over and it should have been after this that they decided to go shopping if Jack had not suddenly asked Clara to come home together.
“I'm sorry Tiff. I promise I'll accompany you tomorrow for shopping. Come on Tiff, I only met Jack three times a week.”
Tiffany sighed. Clara and Jack only meet once every three weeks, but Clara's thoughts about Jack are almost 24 hours a day. Tiffany recalled how every lunch, Clara who always stared at her phone even if she still had time to glance at her phone. That's where young people are drunk in love. And Tiffany was no wonder about that.
“Good Clara. Careful okay? I'm going home first.”
Clara looked at Tiffany who was smiling faintly at her. Clara knew very well that if Tiffany was disappointed enough, she promised the girl to take her to pick a dress for her friend's wedding in a few days. But an hour before they left Jack's office, he suddenly gave her dinner. And he can't turn Jack down.
Clara looked at Tiffany who was already riding a taxi. Next Clara looked around, and she found a luxury sedan parked in the corner of her office parking lot. With an inflated smile Clara walked up to the car. But a hand suddenly holding his shoulder made the girl surprised.
“Hai, Clara!”
Clara stared intently at a woman with her shoulder-length hair now holding her shoulder and smiling broadly. Does he know this woman? His face was familiar to him.
“You..”.
“I'm Mary, you forgot me?”
Clara looked on in disbelief at this girl before her. Mary Thompson, a friend of hers when they were in High School. A schoolgirl prima donna who always defends her if she gets unpleasant behavior from some of her other friends.
Clara hugged Mary tightly. Clara now remembers, a few days after they graduated, Mary went straight out of the country to join her father working on some projects there. In addition to the prima donna, Mary was also very rich. And he was so happy to be Mary's friend.
“Emm.. Maybe two years or three years?”
“No matter how many years, I'm so happy to finally meet you.”
Clara said with a fluffy smile. He misses one of his best friends. One of those people who meant so much in Clara's life.
“You had dinner with me Chal?”
Clara's smile instantly dimmed. He looked worried and glanced at one of the luxury sedan cars. He had promised to have dinner with Jack, and he had also canceled an appointment with Tiffany.
“What's up? You picked up your lover huh?” Mary now spoke in a seductive tone, Clara who heard him smiled shyly and waved her hand.
“No, no. I picked up my friend.”
Clara was still with a shy smile. But that's the truth, Jack hasn't expressed any feelings for her. After all, he also does not know the purpose of Jack approaching him because it is love or bored. Jack was a rich man, so all that was possible for him. And again he was just an ordinary employee. Come to think of it, Jack wouldn't be lucky enough to choose her as a lover.
“What is Jack Hilton, Clara?” Clara now looked surprised at Mary's question, while Mary looked at Clara with a faint smile.
“You know him?”
“He's my ex-lover, I've been in a relationship with him for the past year.”
Clara was silent at Mary's words. Mary is Jack's ex-girlfriend? Clara smiled wryly. Ex-Jack is Mary's classmate, so why would Jack go near her? Didn't that man lower his standards? Clara now felt her chest tight.
“Is Jack trying to get close to you?” Mary's spontaneous questioning leaves Clara shocked again. What should he answer?
“No, Jack wants to invest with the company I work for. We'll have dinner while talking about business.”
I don't know what kind of silly answer he gave. That was the only capacity he could bring out in urgent questions like this. Clara looked at Mary who seemed to nod. Does the girl believe it? Believe in his strange words?
“Alright, then. I don't think I should have a fight with you on this.”
Clara was silent. Did Mary want to meet him because of this? Because the girl wanted to warn him about Jack? While he was so happy with the presence of Mary, but as if that was not the purpose of Mary's arrival to him.
“I go first Clara, I hope you don't disappoint me!”
Said Mary coldly and left Clara who could only look at her. Deep down, Clara felt a great disappointment. First, knowing Jack is Mary's ex. And the biggest disappointment was that after all these years he had never met his best friend, and the words Mary had spoken to him were a threat.
