William sat on Ella's back as he led the goats towards the meadow in the valley. He was currently pondering the path he wanted to take in the future. After experiencing the power of having two classes of work, the boy wanted to conduct an experiment and change his subclass.
For some reason, he was unable to change his main job class. According to the system, the first job class he studied would be his permanent primary class until the end of time. That is, he could not exchange the Shepherd Job Class for another class.
Although he was disappointed, William thought that having a Shepherd Job Class was also good. After all, if not for obtaining it at such a crucial moment, he would have already been on his way to his second reincarnation.
'Stay, now I understand how difficult it is to have a lot of class work, ' William thought. 'It takes time to level up the job class to reach level forty.'
According to the system, the Prestige Class would only be opened after William had successfully reached level forty on the two classes of work.
What does this mean? That means that for an Archer Class to change professions to become a Hunter, Forest Guard, Scout, Tracker, or its advanced occupation class, it must first reach the job level of 40.
It took William nine years to raise his Shepherd Job Class to level 28. Of course, the leveling process was slow because he was cautious. Low-level monsters did not provide many experience points, so the level increase was limited.
Even so, William did not regret his decision to accumulate enough stat and skills before challenging his First Boss Fight. In most games, it is better to be over-leveled than under-level when fighting Boss Monsters.
William did not want to regret anything. Because if that time comes, regret is too late.
Currently, his Ice Mage Job Level was 8.
The skills he currently possessed were Mana Regeneration, Ice Armor, and Ice Walls.
He had just fought the Hobgoblin Leader a few hours ago. The Eleventh Floor was uncharted territory for them and William had no idea what kind of goblins he would encounter when he stepped on that floor with his Mama Ella.
"I'll find out tonight" William murmured as he stared at the Valley in front of him.
“Oi! William!” Theo shouted from a distance. "What took you so long?"
"I woke up a little late" cried William back. He then got down from Ella and hugged her neck. "Mama, I'll leave the herd in your care."
“Meeeeh.”
Ella bleated and the other goats behind her arranged themselves in three rows. He then took them to the area assigned to their herd.
William walked to where the other Shepherds were resting and sat beside Theo. In Lont city, there were six senior shepherds and five apprentices.
Theo's father, Marcus, was the most senior of the shepherds. Theo and William were both apprentices and did not have much to do besides taking care of their own goats and sheep. Since both of them were almost the same age, both of them were very familiar.
A screech echoed in the distance and one of the senior shepherds looked up with a smile. In the air, an eagle circled the valley as its eyes scanned its surroundings in search of danger that could harm the herd.
The eagle has a wingspan of more than three meters. It was John's companion animal, one of Lont's senior shepherds. Called Blitz.
“The floor is clean, I guess it will be another peaceful day in the valley,” John said with a smile.
“Peace is always a good thing,” Marcus replied as he gazed into the distance. A boar lay beside him. This is Marcus' companion animal and his name is Thunder.
"Yes," John admitted. He then looked at the children lazing in the shade of a tree. When his gaze landed on William, a shocked expression appeared on his face.
Marcus followed John's view. As his gaze fell on the boy who was laughing with his son, a smile appeared on his face.
"Well, all right." Mark raised an eyebrow. “It looks like another troublemaker will appear after a few years.”
"Indeed." John nodded. “The Ainsworth family never fails to amaze me. I guess things will not be peaceful for a long time.”
The two exchanged glances before returning to their duties.
Several hours passed as the sun reached its peak. All the herders gathered in the shade of the largest tree in the valley for lunch. The apprentice shepherds sat together in their usual place and shared stories of recent adventures.
William listened to his friends with a smile on his face. Theo and the others bragged about their recent crimes. Their stories were filled with exaggeration as if they were heroes fighting against dragons to snatch treasure in their lair.
William was half tempted to tell them about his own adventure inside the Goblin Crypt. However, the boy knew that if he really did that, no one would believe him.
Suddenly, a shrill scream broke the happy atmosphere in the valley.
John, Marcus, and the other senior shepherds, stood up immediately. Their expressions became very serious, which was an extremely rare thing to look at.
The blitz screamed again and this time, it sounded very urgent.
“The Terrible Wolf! And the number is hundreds,” reports John. "We have to evacuate, now!"
The second thing he did, was take out a small steel whistle. He blew it which caused the herd that was grazing to raise their heads to pay attention.
"Thunder, round them up!" Markus commanded.
The Wild Boar snorted and ran towards the sheep and goats in the distance. It gave a long and shrill scream. As if hearing the royal decree, the sheep ran towards them in a hurry.
"Ava, take the children back to the village" Marcus orders. “The rest will appear behind!”
Ava, the only woman among the senior shepherds, immediately issued her orders. "Theo, William, and all of you, come with me!"
“T-but, how about our cattle?” ask Theo. "What the hell is going on?"
“Wave of wolves is in front of us,” Ava explained. “We have to be fast. We don't have much time!”
“Mama Ela!” shouting William. “We'll be back in town. Call the herd back! ”
“Meeeeh!”
Ella bleated and the herd under her command ran beside her. Theo and the other disciples looked at this scene in astonishment. Even Ava is shocked by William's mastery over his flock.
William did not stand still and ran towards Ella. He immediately climbed on his back and the two stood behind their wards.
Ava awakens from her daydream and orders the children to run as fast as possible. The sea of goats and white sheep began to retreat in an orderly manner. The senior shepherds had grim faces as they listened to the cries of the Eagle that surrounded the sky.
"Oh my God, to think that we're going to be on Beast Tide road!" Johns. “There are even two Centennial Beasts and one Millennial Beast leading a pack of wolves.
(A/N: In addition to levels, there will be instances where monsters will be labeled as Centennial, Millennial, and Myriad Beasts in the story. As the name suggests, this monster was as strong as a hundred men, a thousand men, and ten men.)
"Don't worry, I've already sent a signal" Marcus replied. “Even if the cattle are lost, we must ensure that the children return safely to the city. Everyone, none of you are allowed to kick the bucket, do I make myself clear? ”
"Old Marcus, the only one who will kick the bucket is you."
“It's been a long time since something this interesting happened in Lont. Why don't we have a competition?”
"The same old rules?"
"Of course."
"You bastards better not get out of line" Marcus snapped. “I know thousands of Dire Wolves and their Alpha means nothing. But, Centennial and Millennial Beasts were not submissive! You can start a rampage when the children have reached Lont safely. Until then, all of you will be holding the back! ”
The other senior shepherd replied angrily. Although they were confident that they could easily handle small fries, the Centennial Beast and Millennial were a pain in the ass.
In fact, none of them were convinced that they would be able to survive this battle. They only increased each other's spirits so they could buy enough time for the children to escape.
To deal with the wolf tide, they needed more people. If the others from the village would arrive on time then they would be able to survive this disaster.
William kept staring back at him. Since he was safely mounted on Ella's back, he was confident that her safety was assured. However, Ava, Theo, and the other shepherds ran on foot. William decides to stay with them and help if needed.
A long scream echoed in the valley as the Blitz dodged the lightning strike that shot towards him. The eagle let out a defiant scream as its mighty figure floated in the air.
William turned his attention back to the valley. With the Eagle Eyes Skill, his eyesight was able to see further than the average person. It was then that he saw a black wave appear at the eastern end of the Valley.
The speed of the rampaging waves was quite fast, and William knew that it was only a matter of time before the tide caught up with them.
William saw thousands of two-meter-tall monstrous wolves, with black fur, and red eyes running towards them.
Theo and the other children's faces turned pale upon seeing the approaching death wave. Their legs suddenly jumped to life as they ran for their lives.
"Hold the back!" Markus commanded. He was mounted on top of the Forest Pig, Thunder, as he issued orders one after another. “Our priority is to reach the city. None of you bastards were allowed to die before that! ”
John summoned a black bow from his storage ring and jumped high into the air. The eagle grew bigger until its wingspan reached six meters. John pulled the rope and fired a barrage of arrows towards the incoming wolf wave.
Blood was springing up in the air when John hit his target. That was when another lightning bolt shot towards him. The Blitz immediately swooped down to avoid the long-range magic fired by the Thousand-Men Beast.
The other senior Shepherds called out their weapons as they prepared to protect the herd. They were all trying to buy as much time as possible until their reinforcements arrived.
