The Love of the Unknown Man

The Love of the Unknown Man
16. Vigilant

Edgar continued to set foot to meet Lisa. The girl was on the phone when Edgar placed the bag on the reception desk.

After Lisa hangs up, she smiles and is shocked to see Edgar coming to the hospital. His bead eyes instantly fell on the pouch and glanced at the contents.

“What is this?”

“Have your lunch,” says Edgar piled an arm on the table. “More precisely lunch we both.”

Lisa could not hide the smile on her lips. Then he glanced at the clock on the computer screen, then looked back at Edgar.

“My break time is fifteen minutes away and I also still have unfinished work,”.

Edgar nodded. His index finger led to the garden in the outer courtyard of the hospital.

“I'll wait for you there.”

After a break, Lisa approached Edgar, who was sitting on a park bench. The man looked up and looked at Lisa so deeply that it made Lisa silent a thousand languages.

“Why silence?” Edgar patted the bench next to him. “Sit here!”

Lisa according. He sat down and started opening two boxes that were the same. Rice, stir-fried broccoli and fried tempeh. The menu is simple. However, it was delicious on Lisa's tongue.

He ate it with Edgar.

Several times Lisa glanced at the man who had only lived a few months with her. Inside Lisa, there is a feeling of wanting to have Edgar completely.

Lisa did not want to expect more. If it turns out that Edgar has a wife, Lisa will choose to step down and assume she never knew Edgar.

Lisa's father didn't teach her to be a man's husband's woman. Lisa took a rough breath, tried to strengthen herself, and would still follow the advice of her father.

“Why even daydream? Is the food bad?” Edgar asked who made Lisa's daydreams crumble.

“Enak. I... I'm just tired from work,” Lisa replied lying.

“I didn't know you could cook,” added Lisa trying to shift the subject.

“I try to practice what you used to do when you were cooking.”

Without Lisa and Edgar noticing, they were being watched by Gordon who was standing not far behind. Gordon's gaze was focused only on Edgar. He was still curious about the man who hit him earlier.

Gordon carefully stepped on his feet without making a sound. He wanted to hear Edgar's conversation with Lisa, as well as ascertain whether the man was Gustav's right or not.

“So I accidentally hit a man who has the same eye color as me,” Edgar said after sipping a drink.

Lisa glanced at Edgar while chewing food. After the food slid into the stomach, Lisa answered.

“Oh yes? What are the features?”

Edgar knitted his brows, trying to remember the stature of the man he had hit.

“Actually I don't pay too much attention to her body. But obviously he's skinny.”

Edgar throws a glance at Lisa and stares at the girl intensely. Lisa's gaping mouth ready to devour her food was fixated when Edgar looked at her.

“Why?”

“You once said, if very rarely there are people who have green eyes. Is it possible that this man had family ties with me?”

Lisa lowered her hand. He looked straight ahead with a blank look.

“How did the man react when he first saw you?” ask Lisa suddenly.

“He was shocked,” Edgar replied briefly which made Lisa raise her eyebrows

“Did he seem to recognize you?”

“Entahlah. But I think he's surprised that I hit him.”

In his place stood Gordon sharpened his sense of hearing. He closed himself to a palm tree and squinted his eyes.

“Lisa, you know, I used to dream of being beaten by two unknown men,” Edgar continued.

Lisa straightened her back looking jolted at Edgar's words. He swallowed the food in his mouth.

“Maybe your dream is a picture of real events and that's why you can get battered and amnesiac. Do you remember the face of the person in your dream?”

He closed his eyes trying to remember the nightmare that had recently haunted his sleep. However, at once his head seemed to be pierced by a knife.

Edgar refrained from complaining but the pain grew. Then Edgar felt his fingers touch his forehead.

Edgar opened his eyes and Lisa's face with a worried look clearly displayed in his vision.

Lisa's hand moved to caress Edgar's temples which felt warm and made the pain in Edgar's head slowly fade.

Edgar clucked in disappointment and shook his head slowly. He was disappointed in himself who could not remember the face of the person in his dream.

“Do not be forced!” lisa said softly.

“I'm sure he's indeed Gustav. But it looks like he's having a memory loss,” Gordon mutters to himself. He seemed to think for a moment.

Then Gordon chose to wear sunglasses, turned around and immediately went to see Camilla.

Edgar and Lisa had eaten their lunch together. Edgar offered a bottle of water which Lisa received and gulped.

After Lisa cleaned the lunchbox, she stood up. The break was still a few minutes away but he decided to continue his work.

So will Edgar who will go straight home to the contract.

“Edgar,” call Lisa when they're about to part.

Edgar turned his head, put both hands in his pants pocket, waiting for Lisa who seemed to want to say something.

“Edgar, I just want to warn you to always be vigilant with people around you,” said Lisa put on a serious face.

“Do I have to beware of you too?” Edgar asked with a laugh taking Lisa's words as a joke.

“I'm serious, Edgar. You were found battered and dying. That means, there are parties who want your death.”

The laughter on Edgar's lips faded instantly. She stared fixedly at Lisa and realized that the girl's words had a point as well.

Edgar took a deep breath. He thought about who he was and what he had done until someone wanted him dead.

However, Edgar's memory of his past is like being trapped in a tightly locked room.

“Remember, Edgar! Always look out for people near you! Even if someone claims to know you, stay alert as long as your memory has not recovered. Because you don't know that person could have been a friend or maybe an enemy.”

Edgar nodded his head steadily. Then Edgar's hand stretched out to wipe the top of Lisa's head.

“Thank you for the suggestion. From now on, I will be wary of everyone around me.”

Lisa smiled at me. “Ya. Go home. I'll be home early today.”

Lisa and Edgar end their meeting. Both separated. Lisa reenters the hospital, while Edgar steps into the front gate.

In the doorway, Lisa looked back at Edgar's distant back. Lisa's feelings suddenly became uneasy.

Even so, Lisa only sighed trying to deny the sadness that lay in her heart.
