"Maybe the way my father and I lead this company is not the same. And I hope you all can accept whatever I have set out for this company. You guys take it easy, I won't be cruel if you don't play on me."
Ardo spoke firmly to some of his employees who are currently being dumped in the office hall. There is no special event, just a simple inauguration attended by the chairman of each division.
"alright. I hope you can work better in the future under my son's leadership. And besides, I would also like to introduce to you all two very important people that you must remember." Basir approaches Jinan and grabs Ayla into his arms. "This woman is called Jinan. She is the wife of my son, Ardo. Without me explaining at length, I'm sure you'll understand what I mean."
Everyone who was there nodded in understanding.
"And this baby I'm carrying is called Ayla. She is the biological child of Jinan and her ex-husband. That means, Ayla is already included as part of the Rafandra family. My granddaughter."
All seemed surprised by the words of Basir, including his son, wife and daughter-in-law. His family was shocked because Basir said a personal thing that should not need to be said, the employees there were surprised that they did not expect that their near-perfect new boss could marry a widow with one child.
"Pa, Papa why did you say that?" whisky Elif. She felt bad for Jinan for what her husband said. Especially when he saw Jinan who subdued his gaze who might feel ashamed at the recognition of his father-in-law in front of his employees.
At that time Ardo also wanted to protest at his father, but Basir first raised his hand, ordering Ardo to be silent until he really finished his words.
"I deliberately said this directly to you, because I do not want any of you until someone dared to accuse my son and daughter-in-law of having an affair because Ayla was with them. I also do not want the company that I have worked so hard to build until now, must be a gossip arena for all of you for the presence of this new family. And for those of you who are curious, why does my son love a widow? The answer is, because God predestined them to mate."
"If it turns out that some of you still want to gossip about my family, you bear the consequences for the Almighty. And you should also be ready to leave this company." Basir paused his sentence. "Tell me what I just said to everyone who's not here. I hope you all understand what I mean."
The atmosphere of the hall which was a scene because of Basir's initial statement was very surprising, now all became silent after hearing Basir's explanation which some of them think is true.
After the inauguration ceremony was completed, all employees were asked to return to their respective desks. While Ardo and the family, they immediately passed towards the main director's room.
"Papa shouldn't have said that in front of the employees, Pa. Papa's actions had offended Jinan because he had brought up the status of his previous widow, Pa," Elif said upon their arrival in Ardo's room.
"Sooner or later they'll all know. Papa just doesn't want them to know it through the gossip they create. It would hurt Jinan's feelings more because they would definitely assume an exaggeration rather than reality. And Papa here is just trying to reduce that kind of chaos from happening. Not more."
"But Pa– is"
"What Papa says has a point too, Ma," Ardo cut to the word Elif. "When they see Jinan or Ardo holding a child, they will definitely think that Ayla is our second child out of wedlock. Enough of the allegations experienced by Jinan when in his hometown first, Ardo does not want it repeated. And according to Ardo, what Papa said at the end of his sentence was enough to threaten them and make them all understand."
Elif stared doubtfully at her son and husband, then her gaze turned to Jinan who was currently staring at him with a faint smile.
"Jinan is okay, Ma. What Ardo and Papa Basir say has a point, too."
Come to think of it, she seemed to agree with what her husband said. It is better that they know it directly, than that they guess themselves and accuse the no-no of his relationship with Ardo. Because according to her, if that's the case, it's not her who is actually harmed, but her husband's family. You cannot be selfish thinking about yourself. Let the people humble him who was once a widow, for it is far better than his son who should be accused of being an illegitimate child, the result of being pregnant out of wedlock.
Elif breathed. "Just like, it's up to you."
...
This day Jinan only accompanied Ardo who was working in the office with Ayla. While both of Ardo's parents, they were gone an hour ago. While waiting for Ardo to finish his work, Jinan plays with Ayla on the front guest sofa of Ardo's table.
"Ar," exclaimed Jinan from the sofa.
Hearing his name being called, Ardo immediately stopped his work and looked at his wife who called him.
"Why, Honey?"
"Where is this office kitchen?"
"Kitchen?" Jinan nodded. "Every floor has a kitchen, but why are you asking for a kitchen?"
"I'm sleepy, I want to make coffee."
"No need to go to the kitchen. I'll have the clerk deliver him here."
Ardo rose from his seat, approached his wife and sat his body right beside her. He held his wife's hand tightly. "Darling, I'm sorry for boring you. Come on, let's just have lunch."
"Fel." Jinan stops Ardo from taking him away. "Your work is not done yet, how can we go to lunch."
"No problem, I can work on it later."
"Finish your work. Lunch time in half an hour, I can wait. You take it easy, I don't mind waiting here for you. You better get on with your work now, I want to go to the kitchen first."
Jinan stood about to leave the room, but his steps came to a halt as Ardo pulled his arm.
"Give Ayla to me."
Jinan scrunched his forehead. "You gotta be–"
"I can, Ji. Or do you want Ayla to get hot water in the kitchen?"
"All right."
Jinan handed Ayla to Ardo, and she immediately stepped out of the room to go to the kitchen. Along the way to the kitchen, Jinan felt a little nervous as the people who saw him looked respectful towards him.
"Excuse me," Jinan exclaimed at one of the men passing before him.
"Yes, Mistress?"
"Em, I'd like to ask you, where's the kitchen?"
"There, Madam." The man pointed at the room next to the mushollah.
"Thank you," Jinan said with a sweet smile.
"Em, equally, Madam," he said with a slight bow as a form of respect. But it made Jinan feel bad.
