"Julie, come on," the woman told me.
Before I could protest, he hooked his hand with mine and dragged me into the hall. As I have explained before, the hall was very large and beautiful. Everything inside was white and gold. The place looks elegant.
"Mrs. Jensen! I think it would be better if I talked to Julie for a while" Olivia said as she stepped towards me. My eyes narrowed towards Olivia when she called me Juliet.
That woman, Mrs. Jenson smiled at Olivia and nodded, "Sure."
"Thank you" he said, holding my arm and taking me to the same room where I woke up. I was about to ask what was going on, but he looked at me with a gaze that immediately told me to be quiet. I decided to obey him.
As I entered the room, Olivia closed the door behind her.
"Sit down" he said, and I walked over to the big bed and sat on the side. Olivia gave me a glass of water and sat down next to me. I drank the water, realizing how thirsty I was. I put down the glass and looked at him.
"Can you tell me what happened to us?" I asked and he nodded.
"You remember when we were in the room and I freaked out because we were kidnapped. And someone went into the room after that and you passed out, I was so scared. I think those guys are gonna kill us. But then, the old woman goes inside and she calls and-" You Juliet
"Yes! Why did he call me Juliet? I'm Julie. Did he-" Before I could finish that sentence, he cut it off.
"Absolutely. He called you Juliet. After you passed out, she untied us both and told me that we were completely safe and that she would not hurt us. And I don't know why, but there's something weird about the way he talks to you. Almost like a mother."
"What does that mean?"
"I-I think Juliet is someone that the old woman thinks she is. He was also raving about how he regretted whatever he had done that made you run away."
"What's? It doesn't make sense to me."
"I knew. But I think this Juliet is the girl she's talking about."
"But why does he think I'm Juliet? Do I look like him or what?" That's not possible at all. Did ya?
"I don't know. It's probable. If that woman thinks you're Juliet, then you must have a strong resemblance to her."
"But what is Juliet to him? I mean, what's their relationship?"
"Look, that woman is old. He looks young but I'm sure he's in his late forties or early fifties. So maybe Juliet is her daughter."
"his daughter? And she as her mother, would fail to recognize her own daughter?! That's impossible!"
Olivia shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe."
"Then where is Juliet?"
"I don't know. If the woman easily thinks of you as her daughter, then her biological daughter has not seen her for a long time. And he once said something like 'you haven't changed much even in two years."
"What if he's dead?!"
"But the woman will not say that you are her daughter."
"Going abroad or something?"
"There's no way she won't say what she said."
I'm out of guesses. I didn't realize that Olivia was so smart. But this happened so quickly, what if we were wrong?
A gentle knock rang out at the door and we immediately rushed to our feet.
"Now what?!" I asked exasperatedly while shaking my hands up and down, something I did when I was very nervous and could wet my bed at any time.
"Don't say anything. I'll talk and don't try to escape again because it'll be useless and stupid" Olivia whispered to me.
"Hey! That's worth a try! You never know. I could have escaped if I accidentally threw that guy into the pool" I whispered back.
"Sst," he broke my voice as he grabbed the handle of the door and pulled it open.
There it is again, the old lady.
"Kids, breakfast is ready. You two must be hungry" he said with a smile, glancing at us.
Olivia smiled sweetly at him. "of course! Thank you very much!"
Then he looked towards me. "Come, Juliet. I know you're hungry, too."
Juliette. I hate that name. Juliet sacrifices her precious life for some juvenile madness. It was the dumbest thing he ever did. I mean who did that? And what if Romeo never really loved her? His sacrifice will be in vain. I like Shakespeare's work but-I
"Juliet!" Olivia's voice roused me from my daydream.
"Eh... what?"
"Are you not hungry?" Olivia asked, turning away from the woman to look at me.
"Yes! I'm hungry too."
"All right then. Come on, let's have breakfast together. Follow me" said the woman.
Olivia nodded at him. "Come," he said and holding my arm, dragging me behind the woman and her.
We walked down the elegant hallway and turned right at the bottom of the spiral staircase. As we approached the dinner table, my nose smelled the smell of delicious food.
But that's not all that's on the table. The large table was decorated with all sorts of breakfast dishes. There are pancakes, waffles, bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, burritos, bagels, fried chicken steak, compotes, pop-tarts, puddings, donuts, muffins, and other dishes that may come from Italy or Japan. My mouth was watering looking at the scene in front of me. It is like a paradise for food lovers.
My eyes were still fixed on the food as I entered the kitchen which was larger than my entire apartment. I looked at the kitchen carefully. There's a big refrigerator with zero-degree temperatures, two Bosch dishwashers, and an ice-making machine from Scotland. There are six Russell furnaces that have a grill that ventilates outward. There is also a warming drawer and a built-in cappuccino maker. The entire kitchen is not as white as usual, but rather warm brown with Carrara marble countertop.
There was a bald middle-aged man in the kitchen who was staring at us attentively. I moved my weight from my left foot to my right foot as he stared at me intensely.
"Juliet?" I heard the old man ask me. I lifted my eyes from the floor to look into her sharp eyes. Is he talking to me?
"Julie, say 'father'," I heard Olivia whispering in my ear from behind.
"Dad?" I stammered. I just hope that's Juliet's relationship with the bald guy.
Her eyes softened and she walked up to me before pulling me gently into her arms. At first I was surprised, but I immediately hugged her back gently, as I was sure she was Juliet's father. It was a bit awkward because I had just met him for the first time and I didn't hug anyone. She pulled away a little, only to give me a soft kiss on my temple.
"Juliet, why did you leave us?" His voice broke in the end. "Why did you do that? I spent almost two years looking for you! I never found you. Up until now," he said, pulling me into a tighter embrace.
My eyes were wide open to hear it. He had never met his daughter for the past two years! I swallowed hard. He still hasn't met his daughter. I'm not his daughter. I felt guilt hit my chest. What I did was wrong.
I felt another pair of hands embrace me and I looked up to see Mother Jenson, my 'mother' hugging me from behind. I bowed my head because I felt more guilty.
Olivia coughed awkwardly, having to stand there and see us hugging each other. We parted ways and I saw the happy face of the Jenson family. Madam Jenson clapped.
"Come, let's have breakfast together" he said cheerfully and we all sat down at the breakfast table. Olivia and I sat next to each other. Right across from us sat Mr and Mrs Jenson.
"It smells so good, Mrs Jenson," said Olivia. "Did you make it?"
Madam Jenson smiled shyly. "Everyone in this family is not good at cooking. Our food was made by our personal chef, "He gave a small smile to Olivia and then looked at me. "Juliet, come. Be eating. You haven't eaten anything for more than twelve hours. I don't want you to go hungry. Or are you still on a salad and water diet?" He chuckles.
Just salad and water? Does Juliet have a death wish? I can't survive with just salad and water. "Um. I'm so hungry" I said, taking a pancake and biting it. The sweet, buttery taste invaded my sense of taste and I vigorously bit it again as I realized how hungry I was.
"What's in there?" Olivia asked to start the conversation. Madam Jenson looked up from her food and looked at the direction Olivia was heading.
"Oh, that's a running refrigerator," he replied. Refrigerator walk? I've never heard of it. How could I know? I am not a person who is familiar with the rich.
"So tell me, Miss. Jenson," Olivia started by bribing bagel bread. "Why did Juliet run away? She never told me," She turned her eyes to me to pretend to glare at me. "Every time I asked, she would say 'I don't want to talk about it', '" Olivia again grinned at Madame Jenson. "And since I was kidnapped, I think I have a right to know why Juliet decided to run away from you."
Smooth. A subtle step to finding out the truth that we do not know.
Mrs. Jenson turned to look at me sadly. "You want to tell him?"
"No!" I said a little too soon. "I mean, I don't want to. Why didn't you tell him?" I asked. I don't know why Juliet ran away in the first place, so what am I going to tell Olivia?
"OK," he said, turning to my friend. "Juliet fled when she was eighteen. She is a very grumpy girl, very stubborn and wants to get everything she wants, I am not sure if she is like that anymore," He looked at me with a smile apologizing. "We as his parents, of course, obey his every request because money is not a problem, without seeing that this spoils him. He caught his girlfriend at the time having an affair with one of his friends and we were sad for her but she went too far to show his superiority and yours" Ms. Jenson pointed his fork at me, "command us to buy the boy, what's his name, Vince."
I choked on my pancakes and looked at him with wide eyes. "W-what did he say-I mean, I ordered you to buy me a boy?"
He nodded with amused eyes. "Have you forgotten this unforgettable thing?"
"Oh, um .. I was pretty stupid back then."
"Indeed so. You spent almost two hours convincing us to buy it and I snapped and hit you. I'm sorry."
"I deserve it" I bit my lower lip.
"What happens next?" Olivia asked, like a child who heard her grandmother tell her stories.
"Of course, we didn't listen to him this time and he went berserk, locking himself in the bathroom for an hour. We thought he'd be conscious." He looked at Mr. Jenson, while we just looked at him in shock. "Unless, he never did. He just disappeared, the guards were unaware of his escape and we couldn't find him until now."
"Wow," cried Olivia as she slapped me on the back, "you are indeed a brash child."
"Shut up" I said, spending the rest of my wonderful breakfast with the others. This is the best breakfast I have ever had in my life.
"Juliette. Do you want to visit our relatives? They're so happy to see you again. Your grandmother and your cousins, basically the whole family is so happy to see you. Should we go today? They have missed you so much all this time and they wanted to come here, but I forbid it because I don't want you to feel uncomfortable with the attention that everyone will give you, not to mention the media that's going crazy to see if it's true you're actually found."
"Well, whoa," This is new to me. What media? What relatives? I swore I'd kill Olivia for getting me involved in this. "I don't want to go anywhere."
Olivia watched us from a distance with a frown on her face. I can't look at him to see what his reaction to this is.
"I know you don't want this" Mrs Jenson said, holding onto my shoulder. "Don't worry, I'm not going to let you do something that makes you uncomfortable. So what do you want to do now?"
I looked at Olivia. I'm not sure what I'm actually doing here. The only thing that makes sense to me is that Juliet is a rich brat who ran away from her parents for stupid reasons. And I was mistaken for a rich brat. It's a really messed up situation.
"I-I want to talk to Olivia," I said.
"Sure, please." Madam Jenson gestured at him with a smile.
"I mean, I want to talk to him. Alone."
Madame Jenson frowned at me before nodding. "Alright, I'll be here if you want to say something."
"Thank you" I smiled at her and grabbed Liv's hand and started dragging her away.
"Juliet," I heard Mrs. Jenson called and I turned to look at her. "Let's stay in that room for today. I will decorate your room according to your taste. You can make changes afterwards."
"Oh, okay," I said without a second thought before dragging myself and Olivia into the room. There's so much we talk about.
