The Against All Odds

The Against All Odds
CH 4 - On the Edge of the Gorge

Leo quickly fired the first shot towards the monster, the sound of a gun eruption breaking the silence inside the elevator. However, one or two bullets alone was not enough to stop the approaching monster from moving in.

The monster with three mouths suddenly swung its long hand rapidly. The dark-black hand landed heavily on Leo's chest, sending him crashing backwards into the elevator wall. The force of the impact can tear down the mirror embedded on the top and side of the elevator. Leo's gaze spun for a moment due to the violent impact.

The sound of groans of pain escaped from Leo's lips, as a result of such a strong impact. Blood came out of his mouth, creating a red trace on his lips and dirtying his clothes and face. His body felt as if it had been crushed by the power of that one monster punch.

He struggled to try to get back up, his muscles trembling in his futile efforts. Meanwhile, Alisha looks on with deep anxiety as Leo crashes so brutally. He felt an adrenaline rush overwhelm him, giving him extra strength to act. With a still-bright flashlight in his hand, he saw an opportunity to fight the monster.

A pleasant shadow of memories suddenly came to Alisha's mind. He recalled the times the three of them were together, laughing and spending time together happily. In a moment now filled with danger and sadness, that memory gives him the strength to fight back. "I'm sorry, you may have taken one from me, but not a second time!" muttered Alisha with a trembling voice, calling out for strength from within her.

In an instant, Alisha ran over, passing through the drops of Leo's blood that littered the elevator floor. He holds a sharp shard of glass, which was previously shattered by Leo's impact on the wall. Alisha focused her attention on the approaching monster, and with a sudden movement, she thrust the broken glass with emotion and determination into one of the black monster's upper mouths. Alisha pressed the broken glass firmly and then pulled it down to produce a vertical line on the monster's face.

The monster sensed this sudden attack, and the sound of a roar of pain echoed within the narrow elevator. The shards of glass had ripped through his three mouths, creating wounds that spilled black blood that spilled onto the floor.

With no time to rest, the monster unleashed a counterattack, its skinny and long hands swinging towards Alisha quickly. Quickly, Alisha anticipated the monster's attack. In a quick and precise movement, he lowered his head dexterously, dodging the blows the monsters were about to snatch. Golden long hair that is usually neatly arranged in pigtails, now decomposes gracefully when the hair tie is released due to its fast action.

In that critical moment, his attentive eyes focused on the ferocious movements of monsters. "Where's your smile? What a ugly creature!" exclaim Alisha with a sharp tone.

In a spinning motion, Alisha kicked vigorously towards the monster's belly. Alisha's trained legs attacked with full force, causing a strong impact as the legs struck the monster's stomach. The monster's body crashed outwards, disappearing from their sight followed by a loud clashing sound from below.

Alisha paused for a moment and looked down, through the narrow enough sidelines to ensure that the monster had been completely helpless. Then approached the smiling Leo towards him with an expression of pain in the corner of the elevator.

Alisha knelt beside him, her expression attentive. "How are you doing, Leo?" alisha asked worriedly.

"I'm fine, Alisha. Just a little dizzy from the impact," whispered Leo in a weak voice, although his smile was still on his lips.

He grabbed Leo's hand gently, feeling a warm tremor flowing from him. "You're really great, Leo," Alisha said in a soft voice. "Thank you for protecting me."

Leo looked at Alisha with one eyebrow raised. "Maybe I was a stupid man trying to protect the woman who had killed the dark creature with a single kick. Thank you for supporting me too."

Alisha smiled faintly after hearing Leo's statement. In the dark corner of the silent elevator, only the sound of their breath could be heard, accompanying the meaningful exchange of words between Leo and Alisha.

Suddenly, the atmosphere changed drastically as a momentary earthquake shook their elevator. The rumblings and vibrations from the earthquake made the elevator walls vibrate and the dim lights flicker. Leo and Alisha looked at each other, their eyes reflecting confusion and anxiety.

"Damn, what else is this? Looks like the elevator's gonna fall." Leo muttered in a stalled voice, trying to maintain balance inside the elevator which started to violently tremble.

Alisha, who was holding the elevator handle tightly, looked at Leo with a worried expression. "earthquake?"

The rumbling of the earthquake shook the walls of the elevator, and the dim lights that had long since died around them began to flicker erratically. Leo looked up, trying to understand what was going on.

Before they could fully respond to the earthquake, there was the sound of a ferocious action on top of the elevator. With unimaginable awesomeness, the same monsters began to appear and jump on the elevator, causing shocks to the elevator. They came quickly, their ferocious and terrifying appearance made the situation even more gripping.

"It must be those monsters again." Leo frowned while continuing to stare sharply up.

Leo and Alisha who were already tired from the previous battle, felt a despair engulfing. They feel like they are being chased by relentless disaster, with no time to rest or recuperate. In a situation so filled with this pressure, they were trapped inside a narrow elevator with the threat of the monsters getting closer.
