Secret Alit

Secret Alit
Grandma's Favorite Kebaya

My grandmother was a good planner. He was always good at putting things together. Whether it's things at home, or clothes in the closet. In fact, grandma has a habit to record the daily menu for a full week!

"Well, today is my favorite menu!" I said while looking at the menu notes in the kitchen.

Grandma's food is always appetizing. Grandma is good at cooking. We used to have breakfast and dinner at home. Rarely do we buy food or snacks outside.

That breakfast menu, namely nasi liwet, egg pindang, and onion crackers, got me excited to start the day. I also became too relaxed because I wanted to linger enjoying my favorite cuisine. After I finished breakfast, I left school in a hurry because the time had already shown at 6:35.

"Everyone, Alit said yes. It's late" I said as I ran to the front door.

I left immediately after saying goodbye. To the extent that, I forgot to ask permission to go home late to grandma. After school, I plan to go to Ara's house. Ara and I had the task of compiling a memory book for the school anniversary.

That afternoon, it did not feel that it was almost dark. Ara and I were too busy working together while chatting. Suddenly, I just remembered that I hadn't told Grandma that I was going to Ara's house. Grandma always worried that I'd come home late. A few times, he was waiting for me in front of the house. Understandably, grandma doesn't have any HP to contact me. While papa, mama, and Kak Luni were used to going home around 7 p.m. It dawned on me that I forgot to say goodbye to grandma, so it felt like a burden was on my head. I immediately cleaned up my things and intended to go home.

The weather was a bit cloudy at half-six that afternoon. I went back to Ara and her mother. Even though it had been all day, we still did not feel satisfied chatting. I was stuck on the porch of Ara's house and continued having fun conversations with her.

I stood behind the fence of Ara's house while facing the highway. At that time, a glimpse of a grandmother who was across the street from Ara's house. I was surprised, and called.

"Grandma!" My yelling.

Ara was confused to hear me.

"Where's grandma? I don't see," asked Ara.

When I opened the gate and looked across the street, my grandmother was gone. For a moment, I looked at Ara in confusion, and turned my gaze back to the highway. But my grandmother wasn't there. There was no way Grandma could walk and disappear so quickly!

Arriving at home, I saw Grandma sitting on the living room sofa. I approached, crouched down, and threw my head into Grandma's lap spoiled.

"Miss, sorry Alit, this morning forgot to say goodbye if you want to go home late. You see, Alit has many tasks, Grandma, so immediately hurried to leave. I'm sorry if Alit's worried" I said.

"It's okay, 'Nduk (in Javanese, a call for girls). Granny understood, Alit must be busy again," said Grandma smiling as she stroked my hair.

I'm used to this with grandma. In Grandma's eyes, I will always be a little girl.

After hearing Grandma's words, I felt relieved. Then I stopped and rushed to the room to get ready to take a shower.

In the room, again my mind was turned back to the mysterious incident earlier. I just realized that the clothes I saw were different from the kebaya that my grandmother was wearing. But, I recognized the kebaya that the mysterious woman was wearing. Kebaya is one of grandmother's favorite clothes that he has not worn for a long time. Did grandma give it to the mysterious woman? In that case, was that mysterious woman really human?

To overcome my curiosity, I ran small towards the wardrobe in Grandma's room to find the kebaya that the mysterious woman was wearing. I unpacked the neatly arranged piles of grandma's clothes one by one carefully for fear of even making grandmother's closet so messy. After dismantling some piles, I found it! There is one shirt whose motif and color is the same as the figure. The kebaya is light green with white flowers.

I'm getting weird. How can it be in the closet? I took out the shirt so I could see the motive more clearly. No mistake, this is the shirt I saw! The kebaya was still folded neatly, like it was ironed out. While I was still pensively looking for an answer to the incident, suddenly there was the sound of the door ringing.

Apparently, grandma went into the room.

'Nduk, what are you looking for?" Ask grandma.

I immediately pretended to take one of Grandma's clothes. The clothes I just picked up I showed them to him.

"This, Grandma. I think Alit wants to borrow Grandma's kebaya to wear for the school anniversary," I said lying.

Then, Grandma smiled as she stepped out of the room.
