I FELL IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

Episode 14

Scarlet sat leaning against the luxurious carved chair that adorned one corner of her house. He was pensive, staring at the rain that was falling through the window. His hand held a nail file, but the girl seemed to be out of focus with her activities. Both of Scarlet's brows furrowed, her face looked tense at the thought of something.

His thoughts were now filled with Eugene. Scarlet had been infatuated with the devoile prince ever since she was a child. Handsome, rich, strong, even a would-be king, let alone one lacking? All the fun she could get from Eugene, including being a devoile queen if she could win Eugene's heart. That was why Scarlet was so obsessed with Eugene, so eager to drop the young man into his arms.

But... Scarlet gritted her fang teeth.

He knew that Eugene had been away for a few hours after sundown and had come home late at night. Once, twice, three times, Scarlet still thought that Eugene had only gone out to hunt. But this is every day. Scarlet was always observing the young man's movements from the bedroom window, Eugene flying towards the Deep Forest. He could no longer think that Eugene was just hunting.

Did he meet the devoile girl he was talking about? scarlet's heart whispered. Why the Deep Forest?

Scarlet bit her blood-red lip. Thinking of Eugene being interested in another girl alone already made his head hot.

"Faye?"

Vortes knocked on the door of her daughter's room with a slightly folded face out of concern for her daughter's circumstances. Since last night hingha came home from work this afternoon she hasn't seen Faye come out of her luggage room once. Faye who never voiced an answer added to her anxiety. Vortes tried to open the door, but it was locked. The man immediately exited the house and checked Faye's bedroom window. Vortes can be a little relieved because the window curtains are not closed. Faye was inside, but seeing the girl curled up in bed immediately brought various thoughts to Vortes' mind. Is Faye sick? Or is there a problem? Or is he just sleepy? Or...?

Vortes could only sigh heavily in the end. With slow steps he returned to the house. He placed a tray of food on Faye's doorstep and knocked on the door once more.

"Faye.., eat, you can get sick. I put the food in front of the door. You can bring him in if you want."

Faye took the tray slowly. His face looked haphazard and uninspired. Vortes' heart feels like it's slashed. He knew his daughter was done crying, but the man preferred to smile and ask nothing more than to put on a sad face that would burden Faye even more.

"Dad...."

Vortes a little snapped. "Yes?"

"Thank you.... But I want to be alone right now, so don't worry about me" Faye said with a faint smile.

She felt a little relief as her father nodded. Faye immediately re-entered with a tray in her hand. The girl went back up to the bed as she was and put the tray on the table by her bedside. He stared at the meat sandwich that was seen still steaming on the tray. It is usually Faye's favorite food. Just by smelling the scent of meat bread from a distance alone could make the fyriel swallow saliva. But now the three warm meat buns in front of his eyes seemed to have no appeal at all.

Faye's stomach rang, it felt sore and stirred. Finally he plucked a meat bun and ate it without interest. Faye's purple eyes stared blankly out the bedroom window.

Am I wrong to love people? Why didn't Eugene say that he loved me? Was he just playing with me?

Faye tried to swallow the chewed bread that increasingly felt heavy in the throat. He should have known from the beginning, how risky it is to have a love relationship with a devoile. Faye did not know if the devoile really could have feelings of love like hers. They are creatures of darkness. As his father said, love is light. Darkness will leave no place for the presence of love.

Yet despite all that, Faye really couldn't avoid her heart for Eugene. He felt so stupid and pitiful, like he went inside a door while he already knew that what was behind it was something dangerous. He feels so bad right now. What mistake did he make until Goddess Freya cursed him with a sad love story like this?

This was very painful for Faye.
