Small bluish-colored dots beautifully glow at night in the Deep Forest. The light came from the flying fireflies ignoring the cold of the night. One of them perched on a white strand of hair that glistened gently overwritten the light of the full moon.
Faye closed her eyes, leaning her back and head against Eugene's back playing a song with her flute. The silhouette of the two creatures looks beautiful under the perfectly rounded moon.
Eugene sighed slowly after finishing the song. Those devoile red eyes followed a firefly that flew by not far from him. A faint smile was seen on those thin lips.
"They shine so beautifully." Faye nodded behind Eugene's back. "Ehm. Like Escudo's color."
"Unfortunately, a crystal as beautiful as Escudo is a killer to me." Eugene laughed lightly.
That answer suddenly reawakened the uneasiness in Faye's chest, as if Eugene had just reminded her that the young man was a different being from her, as opposed to one hundred and eighty degrees. The girl flipped over, facing Eugene.
"Hey, Eugene," he called.
"Hm?" The called one immediately faces the face.
"Did you ever think about us?" Eugene's forehead wrinkled. "of course. I always think of you until I feel stupid about it." He laughed while rolling his eyes.
"That's not what I meant..." Faye shrieks. Eugene's sharp eyebrow line was furrowed, confused.
"Have you ever thought about the continuation of our relationship?" ask Faye carefully. "How long will it last.... Can this continue...."
Eugene stared silently at Faye who was rubbing her palms while feeling agitated.
"Why do you think of something like that, Faye?"
Faye's purple eyes returned Eugene's gaze carefully, describing his feelings that were now feeling insecure and uncertain.
"Because I love you." replied Faye.
"I've always thought about it inevitably, because I love you...." Eugene could feel a rumble in his chest when he heard that one sentence.
Love's. A word he had never heard in the entire Western Assyrian Kingdom. The word seems so taboo and foreign among the devoile nation. Eugene had only known about it from the books in the palace library. Shabby, dusty storybooks that lie in a corner of the library are neglected and almost burned by the library keeper. Before the books ended up in ashes, he only knew that love was a liking to someone. Eugene could not understand with just such superficial information. Did his father live with his mother in love? Was he born out of that love? But he had never heard the word spoken by the devoils in pairs. Can his love for Faye be called love?
"Do you love me, Eugene?" The devil froze. Finally the question came. Faye looked at him straight with a look of eyes that were really looking forward to the answer. Eugene was silent.
Do I love Faye?
Eugene could have just said "yes" so as not to disappoint Faye. But he knew, he could have hurt the girl later if not sure of his own feelings now.
"Eugene....?"
Faye's heart is waiting for Eugene's answer. Seconds passed by, as if just telling her that Eugene was unsure of their relationship. A sudden fear infiltrated the chest of the fyriel. "Do you love me?" repeat again with a slightly shaking voice.
Eugene remained silent. The feeling of disappointment further spread Faye's heart. "Can devoile love someone? Can you fall in love?" Faye started to feel a mess in her brain that was asking such questions. "My father said that darkness leaves no place to live for love."
"That's...."
"Then how do you feel about me, Eugene?"
The two looked at each other, but this time with an uncertain view of each other. Making the cold of the night feel more piercing Faye's bones.
"I...." Faye's heart rhythms were getting faster hearing Eugene's low voice.
"I don't know."
Faye's knees went limp for a moment, as if all the hope that was holding them back just disappeared. All this time he worries about the continuation of his relationship with Eugene, worrying about their future. But wouldn't it all feel useless if Eugene didn't even know about his own feelings? The disappointment in Faye's chest seemed to rise, urging her tears to come out. He bit his lips to hold the cry, but it was not strong enough to stem the turmoil of the piercing taste. A speck of tears finally descended slowly from those two purple eyes. Eugene's breath was choked when he saw it.
"Faye ..."
Faye turned her face away, avoiding Eugene's black-fingered fingers that were about to wipe her cheeks. Eugene felt like there were thousands of insects spinning in his stomach. No, not only in the stomach, but also in the chest, making it difficult to breathe. Not yet finished he felt the uncomfortable sensation, suddenly Faye moved and tried to go down the tree alone. As fast as lightning Eugene snatched the fyriel's hand.
"Stupid! You think your skinny arms are strong enough to go down the tree alone??" eugene's reflexes snapped out of worry.
"Let go, I want to go home now!"
"You can fall!"
"I don't care!"
Eugene growled softly. Without paying any further attention to Faye's ravings, he immediately carried the fyriel's body and gathered its darkness to form wings. Faye put up a fight, she really didn't want the devoile to touch her at the moment, but it didn't seem like the fight was going to make it difficult for Eugene at all. Faye stopped rebelling as Eugene lowered her down under a tree. The young man's red eyes looked at him blankly.
Faye's mind wasn't clear enough to think about that, all she wanted right now was to be alone. Somehow he erodes his thirst for Eugene, who is still not satisfied tonight.
He just wants to be alone. Seeing those red eyes suddenly felt very painful.
