Crossing the World

Crossing the World
XLVIII - Shelters (Karen)

My hands healed without any problems after a few days of lying in the treatment capsule. The wound was not deep, but the electronic device implanted in my hand was affected. So, the AI had to dismantle it and replace it with a new one and check it periodically to see if my body was giving a rejection reaction to the new devices.

Well, similar to a blood transfusion, there are various factors to be aware of when implanting a foreign device into the body. If it did not match, a rejection reaction would have occurred and the blood on my hands would have frozen as a form of self-defense.

It has been at least a week since I met two strangers who were walking towards the bunker. However, until now I still have not seen them get to the destination.

It will take some time to get here in very bad weather.

I stood on top of the bunker wearing exoskeleton armor as usual, looking at the surroundings that were around me.

The sky still looked paled with dust blown by the wind. The temperature here was just as hot as the days before. However, change is happening in some aspects.

The soil around the bunker now has a loose texture and is always wet. In addition, some solar panels towering into the sky were also placed among the short trees that were beginning to bear fruit.

Some areas are now being bypassed by large drones that are darting while shrinking water to the ground to keep the temperature and humidity in the air. Everything is done every hour without ever having a word of rest.

Land plundering is also done regularly. Hundreds of robotic units are used to gently bulge the soil, avoiding any areas that have roots. They were also assisted by the agents of the land that I brought from the earth.

Without pests and fungi, we still do not need pesticides. Pollination can also be done artificially. So, we don't have any insect-related issues at least for now.

Most of the power that supports the Shelter now comes from solar panels and wind turbines. Therefore, I do not need to burden myself to take more water from the earth. However, I also can not escape the dependence of water on the earth because most of the water sources for watering plants still come from there.

"Over-heated heat remains a major problem. We may need a barrier in the sky. However, in order to maintain the vast barrier, a large number of power plants still had to be built."

The AI spoke through a cyborg standing right beside me.

The barrier he was referring to was not a strong barrier like thermal shields and the like, but rather a weak barrier that could slightly absorb and reflect heat. Actually, rather than being called a barrier, it might be more suitable if we call it a temperature filter.

This type of barrier is usually made using the compound O₃, a poisonous gas that has a pungent odor. When the filter is made, the nature of the gas that spreads in all directions will make the layer thinner and widened. Therefore, to keep it in an area and maintain its concentration, AI needs another barrier to keep this filter in the air constantly. This barrier will consume a lot of energy.

"Unfortunately, building more solar panels than this will raise the local temperature to three degrees Celsius."

I listened to AI's words seriously.

Solar panels are very good to use when compared to conventional power plants on earth. However, heat reflection from solar panels can also raise the air temperature and make plants much harder to survive.

For a world experiencing extreme global warming like here, installing more solar panels will only make the situation worse.

Then ...

"What if we were mining in space?" I put forward an idea that is actually quite difficult to realize.

Unlike the earth, we do not need any funding because AI can mine all its own raw materials and process them based on the data I will provide. In addition, the absence of objects that block the transmission path will make it easier for us to build it.

"What do you mean by building a power generation system using solar panels in space?"

"true." I nodded with an AI question.

"How about sending the results to the shelter?"

This is where the role of earth knowledge works.

"You know? If we make a component that can convert electrical energy into electromagnetic waves, then send it between the transmitting towers, we can get electricity without wasting any emissions into the air."

The concept was first invented by Nikola Tesla about 130 years ago. A genius concept named after Tesla Coil. Unfortunately, Nikola Tesla did not have time to perfect this invention.

"So, we're going to build a power plant without wires? Well then, I need more detailed data about the working principle of the transmitter, receiver, and also the calculation of the Lorenz Style that you have brought before."

Yep, yeah. Honestly, I don't know what those things have to do with cordless power plants. However, if the AI asks for it, I believe there must be a certain connection between the cordless power plant and the things he mentioned earlier.

"All right, no problem. I will also try to ask about the space ships owned by the earth. They seem to have also started mining electricity in space."

Based on the information I get through the internet, one of the solutions taken by the earth to overcome their global warming is to mine electricity in space. They are also conducting terraforming on Mars to cope with the increasingly dense population.

Yes, in terms of certain achievements, the Earth is far superior to us. They have knowledge that we don't have here. I'm sure if I can bring in some useful data, AI can definitely replicate it quickly.

In that case, I will invite the earth representative to discuss again and prepare a suitable item to make it a fair exchange.

...ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ...

Note :

Actually it has been described dikit2 in the story, but there may be confused with the background of the earth in this story.

In essence, the earth in this story is not the same as the earth today.

The Earth is already starting to leave fossil fuels, start wireless power grids, have energy mines in space, and trips to Mars are common.

Is the Earth in the future?

I'm not gonna explain any more than this. It could be a future earth, or even an alternate earth (parallel earth).
