Just five minutes after her office hours, Lana walks into a small coffee shop downstairs. Hans had already ordered a table and had already ordered drinks for the two of them. Hans had already ordered the FRENCH Vanilla Cappuccinno that Lana really liked, following with a chocolate Biscotti.
Lana is surprised because Hans remembers what he likes. Lana draped her old bag and her work coat to an empty chair next to her. Fortunately, the cafe was not crowded because it was still afternoon and there were no other visitors besides them.
"On time" said Hans, checking his expensive watch.
"I'm usually like that." said Lana last time and sip capuccino "It's delicious" he added with a smile.
Hans looked astonished, "You're rarely here?"
"It's actually not something that fits my budget." Lana confesses.
Now shock enveloped Hans' handsome face. "Isn't your salary big enough?" his comment.
"If you want to rent a place to live in a safe location, you have to pay more for it. Also, I didn't plan to work there forever, so I set aside most of my income for venture capital later. I want to live my life freely and calmly. Not everyone belongs to your class, Joy or Sasha" he said in a flat tone.
Hans let his attention go back to his own American coffee. He sipped it slowly.
"I never considered you in a different economic class" he said.
"really?" Lana knew better and the memories were bitter. He could not forget what Hans told his sister, that Lana was just a lowly laborer and did not fit in with them.
Hans sat up straight "Something worries you. You're not what you used to be. You've been acting weird ever since the party" she said flatly.
Suddenly Lana's face became numb. He could not drop his pride and told Hans that he had accidentally heard the man's words. Things have gone too far, above all the chaos that has been going on lately.
Lana looked up and looked at the man with pent-up hatred, distorted self-esteem and anger clearly visible in the look of her cold eyes. "It's the same as talking to the floor. If you come here, it's because you want something. So what's there?" ask Lana directly and without further ado.
"Why do you think I want something?"
Lana felt herself very old "Sasha invited me to parties because I could cook and clean up the mess afterwards. Or if he is sick and needs to be treated. You came looking for me when you were in need of a sudden secretary to type out a report or fix a computer program or track down an ISP online. You two won't be anywhere near me unless I'm useful."
Hans' breathing was choked. "Lanaa..it's not like that at all!"
Lana looked at Hans with resolute eyes. "Yes it's like that. It'll always be like that. I'm not complaining. I don't know what I'd do if it wasn't for you and Sasha. I owe you guys more than I could ever redeem in my entire life. It's just that, since you came here, there must be something you need and I know it. Doesn't matter. Tell me what you want me to do."
Hans's eyes closed and reopened, displaying an expression of heartache. Everything Lana said was true. He and Sasha have shamelessly taken advantage of Lana, though they were not aware of their actions clearly before. Now he hates the idea. But for the sake of the plan he had made over the past two weeks, Hans put aside Lana's pain for now. Hans really could not accept that the girl had stayed away and avoided him. Therefore, Hans will carry out this plan to find out his own feelings and the position of the girl in his life.
"It's a little too late to realize all that. It also doesn't fit your character. Come onl. What's up?" added Lana with a faint smile.
Hans was playing with his biscottas. "I told you once that we were looking into embezzlement of office funds and leaking of important data. Now I'm getting reports that there are drug suppliers and users in the office on a scale that's not small."
Lana nodded. "You said once that I couldn't help you and you even suspected myself" Lana reminded.
"Well, I was wrong. In fact you're the only person who can help me right now because your work is related to all employee data and office financial data."
Hans looked into Lana's eyes with a look. "I want you to pretend we're in a relationship. So I have a reason to go back and forth and not just sit in my office!"
Lana did not react.
