Conquering your Love

Conquering your Love
EP 15'S

Two weeks later, Lana was present at a meeting between Ryan and a part of the information system who was rude and insulting to fellow workers. Ryan's job as general manager of HR is to take care of employee problems and the man is very good at diplomacy. It makes Lana get the opportunity to learn what to do when he will get a promotion someday to become a manager like Ryan Williams.

"Sir David, introduce. This girl is Lana Adelia, my administrative assistant who can double all my work when I'm not around. He's here to take notes." Ryan explained.

Lana was surprised, because she thought she was there to study the meeting. But he just smiled and immediately took out a small notebook and a pen from inside his bag. It was as if he was ready to take note of everything important from the meeting.

"You received a complaint about me, didn't you?" ask Mr. David while sighing.

Both of Ryan's eyebrows shot up. "Well, yeah..."

"One of our executives hired a marketing specialist without checking his experience at all. I was preparing one of the proposals that had to be ready within a month, but the woman was deliberately putting my work and mine private. He told me I was stupid and unprofessional. When I tried to explain the proposal I was working on to him, he accused me of insulting him and just left. I was just trying to teach him because I saw he was inexperienced."

Ryan looked as if he wanted to say something, but he instead glanced at Lana and instead cleared his throat. "Aren't you talking about it, Mr David?"

"No sir, I'm not talking about it at all. But it was he who had wronged me. Besides, I would like to report him. To be honest, I saw a strange gurgle from him. His eyes were sparkling, his nose was red and he was always aggressive to almost everyone in our division. It's possible that he used drugs, Mr. Ryan. Please follow up further on my complaint." replied the young man calmly and politely.

"I've seen enough people who are addicted to narcotics and know about the symptoms of drug addiction. I'm sorry I made that accusation against him but here my integrity is at stake" David added.

Ryan took the paper and read the name on it. He looked at the younger man again. "I know him. He is one of the best people we have. He'll confirm what you just said to me?"

"Yes, Mr. Ryan."

Ryan nodded. "I'll ask him and investigate your allegations. You'll be notified when we've made our decision, Mr. David. Thank you for the time, for a while quite up here."

"Thank you, Mr. Ryan and Ms. Lana" said the young man politely as he stood up from his chair and moved on from there.

"I enjoy my work. If I have to lose my job, it should be based on reality and not on lies. Excuse me." he added.

"I agree. Good day." said Ryan.

"Good day" said David leaving with honor.

Ryan turned to Lana and asked, "What do you think of David?"

"It seems like he is an honest, sincere and hardworking person."

Ryan nodded. "She always comes early every day and never takes longer when she's at lunch, does her job happily and never complains, even when he had to overtime until night."

Ryan took out an archive of documents. "On the other hand, Miss Anna filed the case. He seems to be the one with the problem. He always arrives four out of five working days late. He also often truant when Mondays where the day is usually held weekly meetings. He also often complains when he has to overtime" Ryan said as he looked up, looking at Lana. "What would you do if you were in my position?"

"I'd fire him if he'd gotten SP mail more than three times."

Ryan smiled slowly. " He had a disabled mother and a two-year-old boy. He was fired from his previous job. If this time he is fired again, he will face an uncertain future." Ryan murmured languidly.

"If you take my place, you should make a recommendation like this. Even you have to do it for me and you can't feel pity. You work in a business world that depends on income. Incompetent employees will just be a waste of time, funds and even our clients. No business can last long that way" Ryan said.

Lana looked into Ryan's eyes in sadness. " It's not a fun job, Ryan."

Ryan nodded. "It's the same as gardening. You have to separate the reeds from the vegetables. If there are too many reeds, then there will be no vegetables."

"I understand. Then what would you recommend?" lana asked while staring at her notebook.

"That our security department will conduct a thorough investigation into Ms. Anna's performance and if she is found to have a narcotics addiction problem, she will be given the option of counseling and medication or termination. Unless he's caught using narcotics during work hours. Of course, if it happens like that, he will immediately report it to the authorities." explained Ryan calmly.

Lana knew her heart was frozen. What sounded like a good position weighed down on him like a large piece of rock.

"Lana, is this what you really want to do? I'm sorry but you're not a hard-hearted person. You'll always make excuses for others and that's not the hallmark of a manager." asked Ryan gently with a smile.

"I'm starting to realize that. Aren't you at all bothered to make recommendations for people to lose their jobs?" sahut Lana slowly while looking into the eyes of the man who has become his boss and role model at work.

"No! I am concerned for them, but not concerned enough to sacrifice my salary or your salary in order to maintain a job they do not deserve. That's business, Lana."

"I think so" said Lana playing her notebook. "I was good at computers when I was in business. I don't want to be a systems specialist because I'm not gifted with machines, but I can do anything with software. Maybe from the beginning, I got the wrong job. I should have been a software specialist instead "thought Lana while glancing at Ryan.

Ryan grinned. "So soon, if you decide what you really want to do. Write down the job description and give it to your HR manager and apply for the job. "Ryan advised Lana.

"You're kidding me!"

"No really. That's how I got my job and my current position" Ryan said.

"Gee!"

"You don't have to fire the software and if it doesn't work properly, you won't hesitate to throw it away. But it's all too early. You don't have to decide right now what you want to do! Besides, there's a chance I won't get a promotion so you can take over my position any time soon."

"You're gonna get it, Ryan. You're so good at your job."

"You think so?"

"Yes of course." said Lana sincerely.

"If only, my girlfriend had faith and appreciated me like you did to me. I'm going to be a more confident and happy man" Ryan said languidly.

"Oh. I'm sad. It's possible, your boyfriend will change later." lirih Lana while patting Ryan's back gently. Lana put her sweet smile towards the man beside her as they walked back to their study without realizing that there was a cold gaze from the man who had already seen Lana's closeness to Ryan was sitting in the chair in his room. The man felt his blood boiling hot.
