Rumah Mbah Modo is located at the foot of the hill at the end of the village of Ebuh. After passing through the village market, Purbo tread the road that is composed of various colors of latitude rocks. The right left of the road grew an extremely dense bamboo evening grove swinging crazily with each blowing wind.
The building of a green painted joglo house appears to stand gallantly at the end of the road. There are two large banyan trees on the side of the house, with the roots of the breath twitching lengthwise to touch the ground surface. Bamboo fences surround the house with a courtyard in the form of red soil.
The breeze was blowing slowly, hitting the nape of Purbo who was only wearing a thin white shirt. The cold sensation made him goosebumps. The mist remains a major treat along the village road of Ebuh.
"Bah Modo lives alone in that house which is Yang?" purbo asked as he rubbed his nape.
"There's Mas's a rickety. Who helps cook, beberes, and other homework. Well that's Mbah Modo's rendangnya," Dini pointed to the figure of a man who wears a black headband.
"The name is Japra" Dini continued.
Japra is seen bending over to welcome his master's guests.
"Modo is there, right?" ask Mak Nah.
"There's Mak. All are awaited" replied Japra, occasionally stealing glances at Purbo. Purbo was consciously being noticed by the fat man.
Mak Nah goes ahead, while Purbo and Dini go hand in hand to follow Mak Nah. Mbah Modo's courtyard is a maroon-red land, similar to the color of bricks.
"Hey, have you agreed with Mbah Modo if you want to visit?" purbo asked while watching his steps.
"No, I'm not," Denies Dini.
"Kok said the rent earlier, Mbah Modo is waiting for us? Know where we're going to visit?" ask purbo curious.
"Ya Mbah Modo is like that. The sakdurunge Winarah. Know before anyone tells," replied Dini with a smile.
"Huh? It could be so, '" Purbo scratched his head.
"That's called waskita Mas. Individuals who are already at a high level of science and death," continued Dini.
"Eh, by the way Mbah Modo's rite, who's his name? Japra huh? How do you see me like that Yang? Strange" said Purbo half-whispering.
"How weird is Mas?" ask Dini.
"Yes look at strangers. I think I'm from another planet, that weird look like my face?" Purbo rubbed his own face. Just smiling.
Mak Nah, Purbo and Dini arrived at the terrace of Mbah Modo's house. The main door looks dashing, tall and wide with carvings of two tigers. Mak Nah took off her footwear, followed by Purbo and Dini.
She pushed the door slowly. The door was unlocked and immediately opened, indicating the living room condition of the village leader Ebuh.
"Kok play open the door, without saying hello anyway Yang?" asked Purbo protesting.
"Sstt. . .Just follow me!" Dini placed her index finger on her lips, asking Purbo to shut up.
The building is similar to his own home, that is the impression of Purbo when looking into the living room. Four pillars of teak wood stand firmly in the middle of the room. The chair is also made of teak wood, with a thick foam in the cushion of the seat.
A man sat on one of the chairs, staring at the arrival of Mak Nah, Purbo and Dini. The man was wearing a dark striated shirt with black pants. A brown-coloured hornbill was attached to the head, while his right hand held a wooden stick with a tiger-figure handle.
"Sugeng Enjing Mbah Modo's. Ngaturaken worship pangabekti kawula," Mak Nah crouched kissed the back of the hand of the man who was sitting casually in the living room chair.
Purbo was quite shocked by what he saw. The person called Mbah Modo, the leader of the village of Ebuh does not fit the shadow in the mind of Purbo. At first Purbo thought Mbah Modo was an old grandfather with a mustache and a long beard.
It turned out that the person called Mbah Modo was not too old. From the looks of it, it may not be more than 50 years old. Even if noticed, it still looks older Mak Nah than Mbah Modo.
"Are you surprised that the man called Mbah is not old enough in your vision?" Mbah Modo chuckled at Purbo who was silently grinning. Mbah Modo's voice sounded hoarse and raucous like a grandfather's grandfather.
Purbo smiled clumsily, then imitated Mak Mah and Dini, shaking hands and kissing the back of the hand of the village leader Ebuh.
"Let's sit down, please" Mbah Modo told his guests.
Mak Nah takes a seat near Mbah Modo. While Purbo and Dini were sitting in a row some distance away from the village chief.
"Sir, what about your pregnancy? Smooth right?" ask Mbah Modo in Dini.
"Current Mbah, the grandpa is getting pinter. Often rendang nendang," replied Dini with sparkling eyes.
Purbo just shut up. His sense of smell inhaled a strange fragrance. Purbo nose kembis, trying to guess what the aroma is. And finally he remembered. The aroma is nothing but the smell of pandan leaves.
"Ngger, I heard you suddenly forgot about your life. Really it?" tanya Mbah Modo turned to look at Purbo.
"Ah yes Mbah. I only remember my wife. Besides, I forgot everything," Purbo replied a little wave.
"Ngger, life begins with ignorance and gradually will become know. No need to find out what you forgot. The important thing now is to create happiness for loved ones around you" Mbah Modo said. His voice sounded calm and penetrated into the heart.
"Bah sorry, our arrival here actually wants to ask for help so that Mbah Modo would like to give a pageant to Mr. Purbo," said Mak Nah.
"Does anyone bother you, Ngger?" tanya Mbah Modo was still staring at Purbo.
"Some times I felt strange, strange, and there was a voice in my head. Even I saw apparitions that somehow only I experienced" Purbo explained.
Mbah Modo immediately stood up holding his staff. With a trembling body Mbah Modo approached Purbo. The smell of pandan stings pierced Purbo's nose as the village leader stood before him.
A ring with green agate embedded in the left index finger of Mbah Modo. Slowly, Mbah Modo touched the agate to Purbo's forehead. The cold sensation immediately felt. Purbo resigned to the treatment of Mbah Modo.
"It's all just Ngger's prejudice. Later I will make padhang ati pageran. Tomorrow let Japra take you to your place" Mbah Modo said with a smile.
Dini turned to Mak Nah, reciprocated by a nod of the head that I don't know what it means.
"Then, I and Mas Purbo please say yes Mbah," said Dini later.
"Oh yes Nduk," said Mbah Modo.
Purbo who was a little confused, why his wife arrived saying goodbye can only be silent and according. Purbo bowed to Mbah Modo and walked out of the house.
"Why hunt Yang?" whispered Purbo when he got outside the house.
"I'm hungry Mas" replied Dini reasoned.
Japra is seen standing in front yard. As Purbo and Dini walked past him, the man continued to pay attention to Purbo with a strange look. He continued to observe Purbo from head to toe.
Meanwhile after Purbo and Dini left, Mak Nah immediately rested under the feet of Mbah Modo.
"How is the condition of the fetus Mak?" ask Mbah Modo. The face that initially looked calm now turned scary.
"Good Mbah. As long as the woman feels at home and happy here I think everything will be smooth," replied Mak Nah with a bowed.
"Some tried to disturb. The man did not seem to be a descendant of any random person," Mbah Modo stomped his staff. Seen from the look in his eyes, the village chief was overwhelmed with feelings of anxiety.
