After the Word Talak
CHAPTER 44. The Position of a Stepfather

"You drive," Sean throws his car keys at Adam.

Adam who just touched the car door hinge caught the key that Sean threw shortly after Sean entered the passenger seat while Adam in the driver's seat.

"What do we buy?" adam improved his sitting position.

Sean took a paper with Mama Reni's shopping list, which they both thought was a little but a lot.

"So seriously we're buying all this?" adam did not believe.

"Well, you want to be blacklisted as Mama Reni's son? I'm a bitch," replied Sean rolling back the shopping list.

"Judah," Adam grazed the brown leather steering wheel and immediately set gas on the nearby traditional market.

On the way they talked for a moment about the marriage of Adam and Dikta later.

"About when do you want to apply for Dikta?" sean looked at Adam.

"So soon Brother," replied Adam focused on driving. "But I'm confused."

"You confused especially? You have no capital? Take it easy I can give you a loan," Sean replied that made Adam tick.

"Not that, if it's a matter of cost I already have, but what I want to know is my position later as a Connecting Father or Stepfather and what are my obligations, if I marry Dikta," adam looked at the focus ahead.

"I understand how you feel, it's better to go to Ustad Zaky's house to ask this more clearly to the experts" Sean replied.

"How much?"

"We still have five hours, the aqiqah event starts at three in the afternoon and we return home before one in the morning, while it is only eight in the morning, still time," said Sean checking his watch.

Adam then nodded at Sean's suggestion and finally chose to visit Ustadz Zaky's house for further consultation.

It didn't take long for the two of them to get there, Sean and Adam got out of the car and it just so happened that Ustad Zaky was on the porch.

"Assalamualaikum" said Sean and Adam.

"What's up, come here?" ustad asked Zaky to let Adam and Sean sit down.

Sean pulled up a chair and sat down on the patio chair. "Look Ustad, my sister-in-law would like to ask something related to religion, and it's good to ask the experts directly."

Ustad Zaky nodded then hinted Adam to question the thing he wanted to ask.

"Look, I will marry a Dikta figure who has had children from a previous marriage, which makes me worried, how my position as a serial father or stepfather in Islam, he said, when I get married, and what is my place for my stepson?" tanya Adam looked at Ustad Zaky inside.

Ustad Zaky stroked his chin slowly and nodded at Adam's question.

"So, in Islamic law, a person who is bound by a marriage contract with his biological mother, then legally he becomes the father of his children. So that the position of the father is either due to heredity or marriage contract, there is no legal difference in educating and interacting with his children" explained Ustad Zaky. "This has been confirmed by Allah in al-Qur’an Surat An-nisa: 22-23."

Listening to Ustad Zaky's explanation of his future position that had no difference with his biological father made Adam nod in understanding.

"What are my obligations?" adam asked who made Ustad Zaky smile.

"There are eight obligations for a father to be attached to his stepson,"

"What is Ustad?" asked Adam enthusiastically.

Ustad Zaky smiled and stood up. "I'll answer you later, I better make you a drink first, it's not good to receive guests in this situation."

Adam sighed staring at Ustad Zaky coming back inside the house.
