The scorching afternoon sun that radiated full of smiles further inflames our spirits. We reached the front gate of the factory and walked about ten meters towards the field.
This land that is quite spacious is usually used as a parking lot for cars box carrying raw materials that alternately go in and out of the warehouse.
We marched back, but this time the men were in direct command by Mr. Doni, while the women were with Ms. Sonia.
"How ladies? Are you ready?", shouted Sonia loudly.
"Ready ma'am." answered us compactly.
We were then directed to the right side. There's a couple of machines lined up here. Like ATM machines, but there is infrared for barcode scans such as next to the cash register of several large supermarkets.
"This is a check engine. Where you are absent in and go home. How to use it like this." Ms. Sonia then demonstrated how to use the machine.
We simply attach the barcode section on our ID Card to the infrared sensor on the machine, then after our data appears on the screen then press enter with the index finger.
If the screen shows the time when you pressed enter it means your check was successful, but if it appears another means your check failed and you have to repeat from the beginning.
"Mom what if after three times it turns out that our data has not appeared?" Ask Dian.
"If there is such an incident you can report to the security guard who is guarding here. Later they will make you absent manual to be given to the HRD." Obviously Sonia ma'am then directed us deeper into the factory area.
"In front of you this is the main office, only the manager and the ranks above can go inside, especially on the second floor, it's the special room president PT. KingNoodles." Sonia then walked to the right.
On the right is a pretty big building. On the main door is the N-1, which means Noodle-1, the first building where noodles are produced.
Then the building next to it looks more open with several flour-carrying boxes lined outside. It was a flour processing area, almost all of the workers were men in the area.
Next on the right side of the road we passed was a fairly large musholla, then beside it was a very spacious hall with many table chairs lined up from end to end.
"This is the canteen area. Close to the musholla and also the shared toilet on the left so you can easily if you want to pray." Obviously Sonia's mom again.
Next we entered the paving road which was quite wide. Stinging smells like onions, garlic, oil, sambal, frying fused to make us all close our noses.
This is a must-mask area. The building to the left is N-1 Seasoning, and the right is N-2 Seasoning. The N-2 building itself is at the end of this road. The largest building with white paint that still looks new.
We walked around for a while in the N-2 building. Some of the foremen and maintenance who passed by us always smiled towards Bu Sonia. Do they all know Sonia's mom? I don't know.
"Bu Sonia today how many employees are in?" Asked a big man who suddenly approached us.
"There are 50 people sir, almost all fresh graduates. What does Mr. Robby need?" Ask Sonia.
Mr. Robby opened the document map and handed over one to Ms. Sonia.
"Alright sir, Mr. Doni will take care of the placement." Said Sonia's mom after skimming through the documents she received.
"Okay ma'am, then I'm sorry." Pamit Mr. Robby then entered the room in front of us.
Get in front of our big blinds in a liquid spray hand sanitizer, then go in using a mask that is available in the box in front of the door.
Hot and stuffy air greeted us in the front area. There are many conveyors extending from the east end to the south end.
We approached the two employees who were in the middle of the conveyor, they were in charge of flipping noodles out of a large machine at the east end.
"This is a process room. Processing noodles first stage of the flour section, then here, last in the packing section." Obviously Sonia ma'am then stepped deeper inside.
We passed through a large door made of translucent glass. In the packing section is even more crowded with machine noises.
Noodles coming out of the process room continue to flow into this section, into the branching of the machine, and then flow through several workers standing on the left right of the conveyor.
They are in charge of putting seasonings, oil, and also garrison onto noodles that go over the conveyor. Drive up to the back there is a seal machine, to wrap the noodles.
Lastly, the neatly wrapped noodles are put into cartons and then into the warehouse through the large window that is at the very back of these machines.
We gaped at the process of making instant noodles that are so long. All fell silent with their respective thoughts as Bu Sonia finished explaining all the processes.
Siska raised her hand and asked. "Mom here is very crowded and hot, how about we get thirsty? Do we have to get out of here first? It's a long way from having to drink outside."
We all nodded confirming Siska's question. It might take fifteen to twenty minutes if we had to walk out of here.
"A good question. You see there's a pretty wide gap in the middle of the conveyor with the number twenty-five machine?" Sonia asked bu while pointing towards the middle of the right side from where she was standing. "That's the room for a drink, if you're thirsty you just tell your partner and then head there for a drink." Clearly then.
Some of us who are curious are welcome to see the drinking room. This place is quite clean, a patch of space with lots of drinking water faucets in it. There are many glasses neatly arranged on the right and left side of the faucet.
We went back to the other parts. The stinging heat of the sun did not dampen our steps. Our lunch break was spent observing and then the employees who came in and out of the workplace to the cafeteria.
Their fatigue was obvious. The lethargic ruts that adorned their faces. We can all clearly observe. Some laugh merrily, huddle with his friends, alone, both maybe with friends or lovers or husbands?
"Which one is it?" Ask Siska and sit next to me with her food.
"It's just daydreaming at Sis' house," Tempta Dian while observing me who just silently stared at the crowd in front of us.
"Guys, tomorrow we'll work like them. Are you guys ready?" I asked as I glanced at Dian and Siska.
"Whoever is not ready we must live it." Answer Dian lightly.
"This is our choice, so we must do the best. We're doing our best, okay?" Siska continued excitedly.
"Key..." Sahutku and Dian compact.
Yep. This is our choice. This is the beginning of my journey. This is a time when I need to be able to stand up to the world.
Welcome to the world of work..!!
