THE NOURA VAN KEMMERS

THE NOURA VAN KEMMERS
Hervermans

"So he threatened you?" ask Mrs Helena.

"You have explained to him that the estate is the property of your father, which is now fully handed over to us. This can't be allowed. We have to tell Papa" said Mrs Helena again.

"not now. Let me handle it myself. I don't want to burden Papa's mind. Papa's health has been getting worse lately" replied Mr Adrian.

His mind was back on the figure of the Father whose health condition was declining. In his last letter, The Father said that if he was unable to walk far, his vision was often blurred and dizzy.

But the Father kept telling him not to worry. While in Harlingen, there were several brothers who took care of her. Mr. William Van Kemmers simply asked him to focus on the plantation business he was currently managing.

"I will fight Johans Alois in my own way. I'm not gonna let him take what he's not entitled to. The accusation that Papaku has taken the plantation land in Tjibinung (Cibinong) from him is not true. And that's just her wits."

"Have you shown me the land papers?" ask Mrs Helena.

"Of course it is. But he said the letters were fake and that he had the originals. He challenged me to show the authenticity of the letters."

"I'm not afraid of any threat. Although some people say that Johans Alois is a dangerous person, I will not be daunted. I won't let anyone take that plantation land. The land belongs to Papa. Our treasure of wealth. You know for yourself, the plantation land is getting better. The results obtained are also more than enough."

"We can have savings to send Sophia to become a doctor. We also have enough money to send Benjamin to the Netherland. All from the plantation. I want one of Noura or Benjamin to take the plantation forward."

"Even as I plan to move on in the near future, I'd like to resign from Herverman. I want to focus on taking care of our plantations only" said Mr. Adrian fiery.

Herveman was one of the largest plantation companies owned by one of the VOC officials in Batavia. It can be said that Herverman is a remnant of the VOC's glory in the past. The location of Herveman is in the ommelanden Batavia (the area around Batavia). Adrianus Van Kemmers has been working at Herverman since his first arrival in the Dutch East Indies. He succeeded his father as head of plantation administration. As a plantation company that used to belong to the VOC, Herverman is growing very rapidly. The majority of commodities in the form of fruits and vegetables are very superior compared to the surrounding areas. It can be said Herverman became one of the suppliers of vegetable and fruit needs for Tanjung Oost Passer (now called Pasar Minggu) and surrounding areas.

As chief of administrative staff, Adrianus earned a considerable income, but there was satisfaction for him when managing his own estate and getting maximum profits. His income from rubber plantations almost tripled his salary at Herverman.

Noura listened carefully to the conversation of her parents. Thirst woke him up and walked into the kitchen. From the front side of the kitchen, it was clear that the conversation between her parents was coming from inside the room.

So that's the cause? Papa got a threat from a guy named Johans Alois? and he intends to seize the Opa plantation land? pity Papa, Noura said inwardly.

Slowly he walked over and re-entered his room. She stared at Sophia who was curled up behind the blanket with her head. If Sophia were to wake up, Noura would definitely invite her to talk about this.

"For the past few days, you don't go to the plantation first. Don't disturb your papa's busyness. Better, you help Mama arrange these plants," pinta Mama. And Noura agreed. At the very least, in that way, he managed to make Mama not angry at him anymore. Aided by Sadeli, he managed to arrange the garden in the side yard to be more beautiful and slick.

Not only flowers and ornamental plants, Noura also sowed some fruit tree seeds in the garden. The busyness in the park for approximately three days made him forget about the situation on the plantation.Including about the threat and terror experienced by Papa on the plantation by Johans Alois and his men that occurred during the three days.

Seriate.

According to Asep Suryana in his book Pasar Minggu, Tempo Doeloe: Social Economic Dynamics of Fruit Farmers 1921-1966, the socio-economic function of the Pasar Minggu region as a producer of fruits and the dynamics of the fringe-center relationship formed was the result of the Dutch East Indies colonial government's territorial policy.

In 1930, the Dutch East Indies government built the Sunday Market with iron and zinc-roofed tile floors. Its location is in the bus terminal and PD Pasar Jaya.

After Indonesia Merdeka, the government did not treat the Sunday Market specifically. However, the region was still very productive supplying the needs of fruits to the major cities on Java Island until the 1970s.

Today, Sunday Market is no longer synonymous with fruits. The Sunday market sells a variety of needs. Activity in this market takes place on other days, but the most visited day remains Sunday. At that time, the market building was not permanent.
