THE NOURA VAN KEMMERS

THE NOURA VAN KEMMERS
Torture Room

"You don't know the KNIL?" ask Noura.

"I'm sorry I forgot. If it's not wrong, KNIL is a Dutch army, right?" my answer.

"Yes. They were indigenous people recruited as Dutch soldiers. Most of them come from Ambon, Manado and eastern Indonesia. They worked under the Dutch government, mainly for heavy military duties. They are notoriously loyal and brave, but also sadistic and cruel to their own nation" Noura said.

"I've often seen how they torture prisoners."

"You mean?" many wonder.

"In the back corner near the pavilion there used to be a small building like a room used to put the prisoners. Those held captive are captured soldiers of the war of independence."

"They were tortured with sadism before being taken out by car to eliminate his life" Noura said softly.

"Oh yeah? how horrible. Do you see it often?" ask again.

"A few times. So horrible. And I'm not strong enough to watch it. Seeing their torture made me always remember my family. It could be that my family also received the torture first from Johans Alois before it was finally finished."

"This house again bears witness to the abomination. By December 1930, my family had fallen victim to the atrocities of Johans Alois. Then in 1948, this house again became a place of torture of soldiers of the war of independence who were captured. I don't know what curse this house has???" lament Noura.

"My heart aches. Why did this cruelty happen again. I cannot see those who are tortured. I want to help and save them. But what's my day? all I can do is cry because I always remember my family."

"Unimagined how painful? passing day after day of torment, being treated like animals, not being fed and drinking until their death. It must be in their minds, they miss the family so much."

"The families of the captives may not have known that they were being held captive and tortured. As they pass through the moments of death, it must be imagined how devastated the feelings of their families, parents and brothers. And they will never meet again forever. Exactly like I experienced," Noura explained again with a glare.

"You get to know them? I mean the prisoners."

Noura.

"What energy?" I asked again.

"Eitherway. It was like there was a powerful flash of light hitting me every time I wanted to enter the small building where the torture was. I couldn't get into it, could only peek out from behind a small hole in the wall of the building while hearing their screams while enduring the pain."

"There was a young warrior figure that caught my attention. Not because he's handsome. But because of his stubborn attitude to abstain from opening his mouth. He would rather die than surrender to the enemy."

"Once I saw how the KNIL soldier kicked, spat, peed and hit him with a rifle butt to the brunt, but the young man still did not want to make a sound. He would rather die and suffer than betray his own people. He still did not want to open his mouth to tell him where the headquarters of his struggle was."

"Until the end the young soldier was dragged and put in a jeep to be taken to the execution site."

"Yes God....So horrible. I can't imagine it. It's so amazing their sacrifice" Noura's story gave me goosebumps.

Seriate.

remarks :

Koninklijk Nederlandsch Indische Leger or abbreviated as KNIL is a Dutch East Indies colonial army founded in 1830. The purpose of the KNIL was to supervise and control the territory of the colony. Although the KNIL worked for the Dutch East Indies government, many of its members were indigenous.

After World War II, KNIL was then used to seize Indonesian sovereignty. The Dutch also launched a military aggression assisted by KNIL soldiers. However, the effort did not bear fruit, especially after the Dutch recognized Indonesian sovereignty on December 27, 1949 in The Hague.

On July 26, 1950, KNIL was declared disbanded by the handover of KNIL leadership Dir Cornelis Buuman Van Vreeden to the Indonesian National Army (TNI)
