The New Civilization of Witches

The New Civilization of Witches
Chapter 40: The Letter

The firewood was burning, but Gerald Wimbledon didn't feel the heat.

Even though he was in a large tent made of sewn leather, and the ground was also tightly sealed without any air leakage, he still felt cold.

His toes were so cold, they almost froze until he could no longer feel them.

"This damn place, even the urine froze when I peed." he spat and stood up.

He grabbed the table on both sides with his hands. When he used all his strength, even his hands became red from the effort, the six-foot square wooden table came alive and left the ground.

After he placed the table on the edge of the fire pit, Gerald felt much more comfortable. He took off his shoes and put his feet beside the fire, warming them in the heat.

He spread out a scroll of text with his hand once again and continued to write unfinished letters.

“Olivia dearest.”

“It has been a month since I came to Hermes, but of course, the Church prefers to call this place their new Holy City.

If not for the Moon Demon, I would not have wanted to stay here even for a moment. I Just want to get back to you and share a warm bed with you once again.”

“Feetish at the convention, the church monitored us with their own strength instead of supporting us.

It's kind of ironic, isn't it? Speaking of the church, I have to admit that what they can do is really amazing.

I remember the first time I came here. That was about twenty years ago. Other than the mountains and rocks around Hermes, there was nothing here other than a small church under the mountain.

But now, not only did they open the way for the traffic lane to the top of the mountain, but they had also established a large-scale fortress city.”

“During the summer, you really have to come and see this city with me. The new Holy City is even grander than our Graycastle.

Do you remember the theatre in Graycastle?

You and I went there to watch "The Revenge of the Prince".

You are very impressed with the architecture of the theater; the interior is so spacious that it cannot be trusted.”

“But after you see the new Holy City Military Affairs Hall, you will think that the theater in Graycastle is just a hut.

It's hard to call it a building, I think it's more like a very beautiful piece of art.

It was so vast that it could swallow five theaters. However, there was not a single pillar supporting the outer wall.

Its walls were supported by eight gigantic demon beast-like bones. Among the curved bones are many smaller bones connected by hemp rope,

and the roof floated in the air as if it were on top of a pole. How could they think of a building like this?”

“And those bones, if taken from a demonic beast, I believe the size of that person must be over a hundred feet. Maybe only in Hermes can you meet such a monster.

But honey, please don't worry, even if the demon beasts are big, they are still the accomplices of the demons.

In the face of God's Eye of Retaliation, no evil can escape God's jurisdiction!

Whether it was a demonic beast, a witch, or a demon itself, their only fate was to turn into ashes!”

When he had written up to here, Gerald Wimbledon put down his pen and relaxed his tingling hands. It's really weird, usually he can hold his 15 pounds.

the two-handed sword was heavy all day, but while holding a pen he could only write a few sentences before he felt extremely tired.

She smiled in a self-deprecating manner and thought that she was really made for the life of a yoke.

“When talking about demonic beasts, I suddenly thought of my fourth brother. He was assigned to Border Town, a miserable place.

I was worried that he had turned around and fled to Longsong Stronghold –

even there, the demonic beasts would not be able to reach him and the defense of the fortress was comparable to Hermes.

But I think this is not his fault, even if I go to that place, I can only take refuge in the fortress.

Here it looks like how unfair my father is. Just because our younger brother appeared so intelligent from an early age, he decided to let him inherit the throne.

Father forgot that he himself did not win the throne in a calculated manner.

Since our mother's death, it has become increasingly difficult for me to know what my father thought. “

Gerald hesitated before he began writing the next part of his letter, he did not know whether he should tell Olivia his true intentions or not.

He paused for a moment, but then he decided to write it down. If his plan went well, he should have already arrived at the Palace in Graycastle before he received his letter.

“My darling, Astrologer Ansger was right. If I do nothing, in the end the throne will not end in my hands.

Gerald observed the stars and what he said was, "The Star of Doomsday will burn for the next four months before leaving its orbit again."

This tells me that I obviously have a little time left and can't wait in vain anymore like this.”

“After today's battle, I will secretly return to the capital and meet my father, and I will bring my loyal soldiers with me.

Here maybe I have less chance of gaining wealth like in Gold Harvest City, but there is no shortage of brave warriors here.

Of course, I don't want to start a rebellion. I just wanted to ask my father personally why he gave the order to start the battle for the throne.

In the end, what made him forget that I, as his eldest son, had the right of inheritance?”

“Ansger has arranged everything for me. Olivia, my dear, you just have to wait a little longer. The day I become King is the day I will marry you as my Queen.

If I fail completely ... You don't have to return to the capital, but instead, you have to stay in the Eternal Winter Kingdom. “

"I love you, Gerald." He carefully folded the letter and put it in an envelope, then sealed it with a candle.

After checking it a few times, he tapped on his desk and his personal bodyguard quickly entered the tent.

“You must send this letter to the hands of the Rose Family in the Freezing Wind Mountains.

You don't have to travel all day and night. No need to ride a horse, though,

simply travel by dressing like an ordinary traveler, as a passenger on a train from town to town. You only need to remember one thing;

this letter should be delivered by hand.”

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

“Good, you can go.” After Gerald waved his hand, he simply sat at the table once more, letting his feet hang over the fire pit.

If anything happens, he will have no way out. He closed his eyes, recalling his childhood scene.

Back then, he was playing hide and seek with his second brother and third sister in the King's Garden.

When her third sister falls, she needs her two brothers to take care of her. Exactly since when did the three of them become more and more like strangers?

Gerald shook his head, putting aside his puzzling thoughts.

Not suitable for him to be sentimental, he thought, there is only one possibility to end this –

he himself must sit on the throne. At this moment, a blunt horn sound rang out in the tent.

“buuub buuub buuuub ——-“

"I'm coming!" He jumped off the table and put on his shoes. Stepping out of the tent, he saw that the entire encampment was a riot.

Everywhere, soldiers were running around and raising flags, merging into one huge mess, going into the battle formation.

From the distant mountains, muddy echoes came continuously. When the horn sounded, it meant that a demonic beast was attacking.

"Come with me!" He rode his war horse, taking his bodyguards with him.

Only one person remained standing on the wall of the Holy City, to feel its splendor – was like an insurmountable natural moat, standing across the road through an impassable mountain range.

The entrance was flat and wide, wide enough for dozens of people to pass side by side.

At the beginning of the road, there are cliffs formed by glaciers on both sides, but the next part is the plateau. This is why the church is eager to build a new Holy City to the top of the mountain.

Using this terrain, they built a defensive line that was almost impossible to break through. However, Gerald Wimbledon sees it more in the long run. They were able to transport so much stone and wood from the foot of the hill to the top.

In just twenty years they were able to build a city in Hermes, a power which the Church had shown was astounding.

But regardless of how tired he is of doing business with the Church, Gerald must admit that they too have advantages.

If they did not build a fortress in Hermes, all the countries in the continent would face disaster.

They were also in charge of the convention against the Demonic Beast Horde.

Every year during the month of January when demonic beasts attack, the four Kingdoms bordering Hermes must send troops to support the Church and fight together under the Church's decree.

Four of their banners were floating in the wind.

A snake wrapped around the scepter

"The Kingdom of Dawn",

shield and sword

"Wolf Kingdom", please",

the rose of ice

"The Eternal Winter Kingdom" -

and towers and spears

"Kingdom of Graycastle" .

Looking at the black spots that appeared in the distant sky, Gerald Wimbledon clenched his greatsword.
