The Border Town finally had a rainy day. The sky was covered with thick clouds. It was raining heavily and was strewn across the glass and windows.
Spring is usually a rainy and warm season. That's not the problem. After Demon Moon, there was hardly any rain in Border Town. Fortunately, farmland is just by the river, making it easier for farmers to water their crops. The heavy rain had eliminated the sultanate in the air. Nightingale opened the window to let the scent of earth fill the room.
Across the Redwater River, young shoots darted from the field from a distance. The endless green wheat wound beneath the sky canopy until it disappeared from sight. Contrary to the gloomy river, the plants looked fresher and more lively than before after the rain.
Roland stretched his body and threw the quill pen in his hand into the place of the pen.
“Completed?” Nightingale asked.
“Yes. New weapon that can increase flintlock firing speed multiple times.” Roland piled up dozens of sheets of blueprints and then said, “I call it a revolving rifle. Do you want to see it?”
“No.” Nightingale gritted her mouth. “I don't understand it.”
“It's just a prototype. If I shorten the barrel, it will turn into a portable revolver. But I need to resolve other major technical issues before I can use them. If everyone had one such type of weapon, we won't have to fear the Judgment Army of the church anymore. ”
“What do you mean it will make an ordinary woman as strong as a fully armed strong man?”
“Not just one, but several.” Roland smiled triumphantly. “If we are lucky, we can make this number to five.”
Nightingale looked extremely incredulous. He was about to say something when suddenly there was a knock on the office door.
“Your Majesty, Barov's disciple has just returned from the king's city. He also brought in a merchant who sold saltpeter. They're waiting for you outside the castle right now.”
“Internship assistant minister?” Roland thought for a moment and recalled the matter. Since the gunpowder had been depleted when he attacked Longsong Fortress, he had sent his bodyguards to Fallen Dragon Ridge and Redwater City to obtain a new saltpeter supplier. The disciple of Barov, whose destination was the king's city, was the last to begin his journey. After all, the King City had everything. As summer is near, burp production should increase rapidly.
Roland did not expect the last person to depart was the first to bring good news.
“Bring them into the living room. I'll be there soon.” Roland looked to the sky and added, “Ask the kitchen staff to prepare dessert as well.”
By the time he turned around, Nightingale was already nowhere to be seen.
But he knew he was next to her.
…
When Roland entered the living room, the merchant who sold the saltpeter only walked into the hall under the guidance of the guards. He took off his robe and straw-drenched straw hat before bowing to the prince. “I am Margaret Farman from the king's city. Please accept my warm greetings, Your Majesty.”
Roland was surprised when he saw the merchant was a woman. It was much safer to do business in this era than in the modern world, as merchants often met bandits and refugees when they traveled, not to mention the harassment of local bullies and underground gangsters. Because of this, not many women are in business.
Like Lightning, Margaret also had bright blonde hair, but her hair was thicker and longer. He looks to be in his thirties. Perhaps because she was not a noble but just an ordinary woman, she already had wrinkles around the corners of her eyes and on her forehead. His skin was a bit dark, and even a little rough at first glance. From his appearance, however, Roland felt he did not look like a Mojin but rather a native of the Fjords.
“Why did you say that?” Margaret smiled.
“You have quite rare hair color in the inland countries. To my knowledge, most people who live across the channel have beautiful blonde hair. I know an explorer from Fjords as well.”
“You are indeed a learned man. My hometown is in the Fjords, but I've been here for over 10 years. I currently live in the Kingdom of Graycastle, and I consider myself to be half a native of the Kingdom of Graycastle. ” He paused for a moment and then said, “You just left the king's city not too long ago. Maybe we've met somewhere else before. I am honored to live in a city His Majesty once lived in.”
Apparently, every successful trader has outstanding communication and diplomatic skills. Roland knew Margaret was trying to flatter him, but he still felt quite happy with the comment. Just as she was engrossed in the praise, Nightingale pinched her right shoulder with great force. [Well, Nightingale, you're too responsible. In this case, there is no need to check the credibility of his words.] Roland said in himself.
“But speaking of explorers, it is a highly respected title in Fjord.” Margaret continued. “You may not know. There are several lands in the Fjord that are suitable for habitation. As the tides rise and recede continuously, some islands will be swallowed up by the rising sea water. Some, on the other hand, continued to erupt into fire and smoke. The rocks would melt into a deep red river with such a high temperature. Only those who have found a new sailing route or a new island suitable for life are eligible for such a degree. Ordinary people would not call themselves explorers . ”
“Haha. He not only calls himself an explorer but also calls his father the greatest explorer ever.” Roland shook his head while smiling. “He's still a kid. Kids always like to imagine themselves as great men.”
“Even the children will not be so reckless as to think of themselves as explorers in Fjord.” Margaret frowned. “Did he say who his father was?”
Roland realized he had just made a mistake with Margaret's look. For the Fyords natives, the word “explore” contains some sacred spiritual meaning, which cannot be used haphazardly. “His father's name is Thunder.”
To Roland's surprise, Margaret's eyes widened as soon as she heard the name. “You know Mr Thunder?”
“No, but I know his daughter. Have you heard of him?”
“Everyone in Fjords is no stranger to that name! Mr. Thunder discovered Doublepeak Island and the Sea Dragon Bay, expanding our living area by almost half. He also drew detailed maps of the east coast and the Endless Cape. 80% of the current routes on the continent were discovered by him. Every child has a story about Mr. Thunder. He's one of the most incredible explorers in Fjord! ”
“But I heard Thunder died in a storm ..”
“No, Your Grace. A true explorer will not be easily defeated by a storm. He faced many dangers, but always managed to escape. Mr. Thunder is currently definitely recruiting a new crew somewhere, just like he did before.” Margaret leaned forward a little. “Your Highness, do you know where his daughter is?”
Roland was also surprised by the fact that Lightning's father was a famous figure. Does it show that all those adventures, as bizarre as the Arabian Nights, are true? “She lives right in the castle at the moment. He headed west after the storm until he arrived at Border Town, where I took him.”
“In your castle?” Margaret could hardly hide her anticipation. “Can I ... get your permission to meet his daughter?”
“Yeah, I'm worried not now.” Roland was pretty sure that Lightning was currently flying around the Misty Forest trying to find the relics marked in “treasure map”. “She is now practicing .. her forest exploration skills. If you intend to stay, you should be able to see it.”
“Then please forgive my interruption.” Margaret nodded immediately.
“So, can we now plunge into business?”
“Of course, Your Highness.” She smiles. “Please start.”
