The New Civilization of Witches

The New Civilization of Witches
Chapter 110: Battle of Eagle City (Part 1)

Through the foggy morning mist, Timothy Wimbledon could faintly see several flags fluttering in the wind at the top of the city tower that was in front of him.

He raised his gaze, trying to identify the emblem depicted on the banner.

A sailboat with a crown pattern on a green foundation undoubtedly belonged to his sister, Garcia Wimbledon. It was the city's biggest banner.

The second banner was set in white and depicted a snake swerving around the pagoda. This emblem belongs to the Bayer Family.

When Timothy first realized this flag, a feeling of disgust arose in his heart. But even after they came and sought refuge under the protection of the Queen of Clearwater, the,

they still had enough pride that they had hung their banners over the city, they were too brave. Wait until I catch you, I will make you eat your own flag, Earl Bayer, he thought.

Finally, there was the Red Lion Tower, belonging to the same Sheep Family not knowing its shame. From the outside, Timothy looked expressionless, but in his heart, he had sentenced Elin Sheet to death.

It was the same for Toman Bayer. Of course, both of them would get their own banners to eat.

"Mr Neiman, lift my banner, the banner of the Kingdom of Graycastle," Timothy commanded.

"As you command, Your Majesty." The Linden Knights agreed, and then rushed towards the troops behind them,

"Long live the King, raise the flag!"

The newly crowned king turned around and saw his banner lifted. The grey flag waved in the wind.

The black pattern on it looked majestic and stunning, having a huge tower with two spears crossed on either side. This was the emblem of the King of Graycastle.

“Under this banner, I will condemn all traitors for their crimes against the throne.”

When Timothy received news of Garcia's declaration of independence, he immediately took action to show his answer –

he had deployed all of his troops along with the Eastern Duke's forces, and gave them orders to attack Eagle City.

Although his confidence had clearly been shaken by Garcia's unexpected swift action. However, on the surface he seemed to remain calm, this greatly increased the confidence that all his supporting ministers had in him.

It took him almost a month before the summoned followers and their troops could be gathered.

Then it took a week to get to the East, from there they again needed half a month to reach their destination.

Just last night when the sun had set, Timothy finally arrived at Eagle City. Fortunately, the Moon Demon did not affect their journey;

the road to the South was unobstructed by snow, the situation was almost the opposite of that in Border Town.

The road became stronger thanks to the cold temperatures that allowed his carriages to carry food and his soldiers to move faster than usual.

Timothy is huge. The troops were gathered mostly from his own bodyguards, the Knights of King City and the special forces of the Duke of the Eastern Border, Duke Frances.

Together they numbered six thousand men, divided into three battalions, of which a thousand belonged to the well-trained and well-equipped rank of knights.

According to the reliable intelligence he could gather, he knew that Garcia's army size was less than three thousand people, and most of them belonged to the rank of the Clearwater Port freemen.

They are usually former farmers and businessmen who have just picked up the nearest weapon they can reach.

They would never truly be a threat to his original knights. When his Finance Minister Sir Arthur Golddess learned of Timothy's battle plan, he immediately raised objections.

So shortly after the end of the Demon Moon, the farming operation would be the highest priority, if the farmers were recruited into his army, it would later affect the harvest.

Acknowledging this objection, Timothy did not require his followers to deploy their slaves, instead,

instead, they should gather free people in their region and send them so that they can take over responsibility for shipping and logistics.

As a result, even if they fought in the South, it would not affect the harvest in the autumn.

From Timothy's point of view, no matter what he had to do, in the end, Garcia could no longer live in the south of his kingdom.

Eagle City was not a well-developed city. After all, previously it was only a market located in the middle of the surrounding cities.

But then, less than a century ago, with its increasing importance to the surrounding cities, it slowly developed into a city.

Because of God's previous plan to further promote the importance of his market, he decided not to build an insurmountable wall.

How powerful was the army of three thousand civilians along with those of the two Earls?

So the sooner Timothy starts his countermeasures, the better his chances of winning.

If he gave her a little breathing space, she would quickly take over the entire Southern region, making it very difficult for her to push it back.

After a night of rest and good food, his army was now ready for battle. The sun gradually turned from a weak orange into a shining golden ball, spreading the morning mist.

Soon Timothy can see the earth-colored walls in Eagle City –

in the eyes of the new King, the wall did not deserve to be called a wall. At best, they could be called land slopes.

From the bottom to the top of the slope, it's just an incline. Even without the siege ladder, his troops could still directly climb it on foot.

Moreover, the slope has only the height of one person and the thickness is enough to accommodate one person on it.

While this so-called wall was good enough to block refugees and bandits, it could never stop its heavily armed soldiers.

It seemed that the city walls were only very rarely manned, it seemed that they were not prepared to defend the wall.

The reported knight Linden, who ran back to the King while leading his horse by hand.

Timothy turned towards Duke Frances and said with an understanding look,

"Looks like he wanted to run."

Duke Frances looked at herself closely and nodded,

“That is most likely true, and can be considered a decisive action on his part.

Eagle City is no match for a siege, if he tries to defend this city with his troops, it will only be an obvious victory for us.”

“It turns out the same as you expected during the battle meeting last night, he really did not expect we would react so quickly,” he laughed.

“We arrived at the right time,” Timothy said.

"He can't move at night, even if he wants to."

“You're right, the march at night is taboo. If he really did, and we then took the initiative to attack, his army would easily collapse.

And once the army collapsed at night, they rarely had a chance to gather again.

Even if he could escape back to Clearwater Port, it would only delay the inevitable.

“So, my dear sister had to wait until morning to order the troops to retreat.”

Timothy looked in satisfaction at the Castle of Eagle City, which seemed to be waiting for him to take it.

It must have been difficult for him, after everything he did, but it turned out to be not what he expected.

Garcia was too fond of the symbolic status of Eagle City, and the possibilities he felt when he put the troops here –

when holding the southern border guard house, it would indeed be easier to conquer the hearts of the southern nobles.

But the profit is also accompanied by its own risks.

Timothy deliberately sent a slow-moving diversionary force along the way, while at the same time rushing with the cavalry division to the East, without infantry.

The required rations were transported by cart, which followed them. When they arrived at the Duke's house, they brought the rest of the cavalry with them.

From there they passed by the Eagle City and approached the city from the opposite side. The cavalry's first mission was to block all roads, reducing the ability of spies to relay messages.

But military activity of that size is unlikely to be hidden forever, Garcia should have gotten news of their attack two or three days earlier than their actual approach.

So when they started their retreat this morning, it could be considered a hasty move. Retreating from Eagle City to Clearwater would take one day on foot.

So even if they ran with both of their legs, Timothy could still easily overtake them with thousands of strong cavalry troops and easily kill them, he said, which would naturally lead to the collapse of his ridiculous army.

Unfortunately, as long as he threw away his three thousand troops, Garcia still had a chance to escape Timothy's grip by leaving the city alone with a horse.

As this stayed alive and returning to the Port of Clearwater would not be difficult. Even if he could escape, I would still end this joke, he thought.

“Your Highness, according to the pre-conceived plan we have to split up now,” said Duke Frances,

“You will wait for me in the city center after you pass through the city and attack from the South Gate, right?

And if we face strong or interrupted resistance, we will take a detour.”

“I still think it's better if I attack from the southwest,” replied Timothy,

“For us knights, it is not easy to move in narrow streets, and Garcia can also block our troops from moving forward by blocking roads with a lot of debris.

Even if we have to take a detour and fight until nightfall, we will not allow ourselves to be prevented from pursuing and slaughtering them.”

"Then I'm out, Your Majesty."

"Be careful" Timothy reminded him,

"Even if Garcia did not leave the troops in the city, he could still leave behind many traps.

In addition, be aware of the narrow streets, there may still be many people left in the house.

Just wait for the right time to ambush you, so kill everyone you find, you cannot leave any threat to your safety alive. “

"Ha ha ha," Duke Frances frankly laughed,

"Your Majesty rest assured, I have followed your father into many battles, I have personally beheaded hundreds and until now I have never been injured."

He waved with his hand and gestured for the guard beside him to move,

"Everyone, attack!"

The troops behind him got ready, divided into several smaller formations that were under the leadership of other knights and started moving towards the town of Eagle –

the troops on the front line were made up of freed men, followed by armored mercenaries, who were the main force in the siege.

While the Duke knight was fully focused on his orders. As the main force started to hit the wall, Timothy led the other knights and their bodyguards to the southwest.
