The Law's

The Law's
Chapter 4

On the way home they both re-kidnapped Mr. Robert's confession.

"Mr Robert, tell me he's left-handed, but the police found the knife in Mr. Robert's right hand." Lexan opened the conversation.

"It's clear that he's being accused of murder."

"I'm one thought with you."

"It seems like it was planned. I was suspicious of the waiter who told Mr. Robert to go straight into the study. And also the confession of Mr. Robert who said that he was beaten. Isn't that obvious?"

"Yes, but we have to have corroborating evidence, I know everyone in court will say Mr. Robert just made up his mind that the judge wouldn't punish him."

"You still think we're gonna lose?"

"Yes." Yeah." Lexan replied doubtfully.

"What's the rich Mr Thomson and why do you think Mr Robert will lose the trial?"

"Mr Thomson is no doubt, he's a wealthy tax official and there shouldn't be only six servants or four security guards working there. Therefore, I do not believe in the words of Mr. Robert."

"Then what about Mr. Robert, do you know his background?"

"I know from Rossa, Mr. Robert is an assistant who helps with his work, he's already been considered a family by Mr. Thomson."

"others? you don't know if he's asking for a lawyer, which means he's got one, right?"

"I'm afraid he's Eastern. About what you said, Mr. Robert is a man who can afford a lawyer but is like an ordinary man who works for people who are bigger than him" said Lexan.

"Is it the East?"

Lexan nodded. "Yes." Yeah."

"That's what the organization says. Easterners are mostly all-owned and they go West to be ordinary people whose property is not equal to what they had in the East." Lexan.

(Unequal wealth: having little money when in other regions they are rich)

Sherine was silent for a moment. Silence arose between them.

"Parker, you said– would explain why you asked me for help?" Sherine asked, although it was a bit awkward at least there was a chat before they finally got to the office.

"Ah, I almost forgot. Did Deana say anything to you?"

"She said your boss was careless and– didn't know you were asking the detective for help."

"I am the ambassador of the association of lawyers appointed by the organization. And my boss, Mr. Hans Cornwell, has always relied on me on every mission. Including this case."

Lexan paused for a moment and continued his story.

"Saking reliable, the superior thought I was a steel shield that always protected without worry, if the shield could be scuffed. Ah, I'm even venting." While rubbing his face.

Sherine smiles. "It's okay, continue."

Lexan breathed a heavy sigh. "Atasan does not want me to be helped by anyone, therefore your existence is very secret. But I don't think there's anything to keep secret about, do you see a lot of people staring at you cynically?"

"Yes." Yeah."

"Just ignore it, they're just jealous because his name isn't listed in the organization."

"That happens to you every day?"

"I'm used to seeing them look at me like that."

Temporary silence.

"Tomorrow we meet Mr. Robert again and look for the identity of the servant who at that time told Mr. Robert to enter the room of Mr. Thomson, and one more thing– Mrs Miranda." Lexan.

"It's not known since it happened."

"He's like hiding behind a case– no, positive thinking alone maybe he's grieving." Said Lexan who suddenly changed his mind.

"It seems that you are hesitant to convey the state of Miss Miranda, whether she is grieving or in hiding. Isn't that worth finding out?"

Lexan nodded. "We have to go even deeper, before the reconstruction takes place."

(Reconstruction: scene design of an event)

...****************...

The next day Sherine returns to the law firm's office, her main goal after a long time without returning to the organization's office.

As usual, a lot of people were staring at Sherine. People just don't trust the lawyers that superiors often rely on to ask detectives for help, but as Lexan says to ignore those stares.

Sherine arrived at her room. We see the door of Lexan's room that opens with Felix inside who is busy cleaning up the scattered files.

Sherine approaches Felix while helping him.

"Looks like your boss came earlier than me." Said Sherine while clearing the file.

"Oh, Sherine when did you come. You don't have to bother, let me take care of it."

"That's okay, don't hesitate to be anyway I'm your partner now."

"Thank you very much." Said Felix putting the file together on the map.

"Today Lexan has a job at the organization, so he can't go with you to see Mr. Robert."

"No problem, I can go alone."

"Do I want to be with you? This includes my duties as well."

"You also have an important task, right?"

"Yes too, then what do I want to call Deana?"

"Don't bother Felix, I can go by myself. Besides, it would be nice to visit Mr. Robert alone, you know Parker's very impatient about that information."

"He was, always in a hurry. Then be careful, I hope everything goes well."

"Thank you, after this I'm leaving."

Sherine rushes to the police station to see Mr. Robert.

After shaking hands, Sherine immediately opened the question regarding the waiter who usually drove Mr. Robert to Mr. Thomson's study.

"On the waiter yesterday, can you tell me what his name is?"

"He's Helen Loise. She's a kara and lives in the Edelweis estate."

"How old is he?"

"Still young, about 18. He's been working for two years."

"That means he knows the places Mr Thomson's house?"

"True, he was also the youngest servant of the other servants."

"Did Ms Miranda or Mr Thomson often ask for her help?"

"Because she's new to Mr. Thomson's house, it's usually Miranda's mistress who is often with him. You could say faithful servant."

"At the age of 18, does that mean he's out of school?"

"I don't know for sure, but it could be because I've always seen him at Mr. Thomson's house even every day."

"You're not too close to Helen?"

"Yes, we were just having a conversation while walking into Mr. Thomson's study, the rest were not. She's a girl who rarely talks."

"If he had only been working for two years? means there was another servant assigned like that?"

"Yes, but the waitress is retired because she's old."

"Are you sure only the waiter and security guard work in such a big house?"

"I'm sure miss, Miss Miranda rejected the large number of workers, so everything is restricted."

"That's it."

"So this is Edelweis's estate." Mumbled.

Sherine tried asking the security guard there.

"Excuse me sir."

"Can I help you, miss?"

"I want to ask you, where is Miss Helen Loise's residence?"

"Oh, Helen Loise. House number 17 on the left."

"Thank you sir."

After getting the information, Sherine immediately rushed towards Helen's residence.

Considering all the houses in the Edelweis housing estate are the same, Sherine searched carefully so that nothing was missed.

Eventually, he arrived at home number 17. The house is like not cleaned, the front yard is dirty because of the soil, plants are withered, the roof ceiling is filled with dust and cobwebs.

"Is this really Helen Loise's residence?" Sherine asked confusedly.

Suddenly, an old grandmother approached Sherine.

"Good day."

"Jiang, Grandma."

"Wanted Helen?"

"L-yes, is this really Helen's house?"

"Right, but lately he's rarely come out."

Sherine nodded. "If you may know, you're Helen's friend?" Ask Grandma.

"I-yes it's right." Said Sherine stammered.

"Good then, Helen doesn't seem to want to be visited by anyone else, but maybe she'll open the door if she meets her friend."

She offered to knock on Helen's door.

"Helen, are you inside? There's a friend of yours."

Silent...

"Helen? Let's open the door, I'm so worried about you."

After being knocked several times and no answer, the grandmother finally stopped.

"I know you're disappointed, son, I'm the same. Helen's not the one who's always been alone in her house like this."

"How many days has he been in the house?"

"Since hearing the news of his boss' death, what's his name ya– ah Mr Thomson, he so rarely went out of the house even refused anyone who came."

"During work at Mr. Thomson's house, did he rarely stay at home?"

"Because Helen's the only child, so she's staying at her boss' house. Only on holidays was he in his house."

"It looks like Helen's current actions are correct, the media or police are definitely looking for her because she was a witness to her boss's death."

"I'm getting worried about her."

"You don't have to worry, Grandma. Everything's gonna be okay."

Grandma nodded and smiled.

"Go back here again, son. If Helen still doesn't want to go out, you can come to my house for a break, I can serve you some snacks and drinks."

"Thank you very much, Grandma. I don't want to trouble you."

"Hahaha, it's okay. I love welcoming guests who come here."

The conversation ended.

Niente. As Sherine had expected, Helen did not open the door for her.

From a run-down house to a granny's confession that didn't see Helen after the Thomson murders, Sherine thinks Helen is hiding from the media or the police.

However, Sherine suspects that Helen is involved in the case and the reason she is hiding is not because as a witness but as a perpetrator who framed Mr. Robert.

And also– Mrs Miranda...

The invisible hostess how she's been lately.

...****************...

Smoke filled a dark room lit only by one dim chandelier.

A group of people were sitting around the round table. Talking while playing cards, but it seems like it is not an ordinary conversation.

There are about six people in the middle of which is a woman who is about 30 years old wearing a red dress and a hat with a matching color with white fur on it.

"Shut up!!!" Firmly the woman.

Everyone who was there immediately noticed.

"You guys are so noisy! I invited you here to discuss something important!" Said the woman in anger.

"What else are you talking about, Pevita? about defeat?" Said Charles, the middle-aged man who smoked his cigarette.

"It's not about the diamonds that the West has recaptured, it's about the Thomson house murders."

Everyone was shocked there.

Pevita Parr, a woman wearing a red dress, was honored by the six gathered at the round table.

Pevita was a representative of the Eastern defense organizations that always planned Western chaos, such as the theft of diamonds. And the six gathered were members of the Eastern organization.

(Eastern organizations include; Spies, military, Firearms.

The Eastern Conference does not use the word 'Intel' for elected persons or representative ambassadors of any of the above three professions)

"Why do you want to talk about it, madam?" Ask Aimee.

"That's astounding Western news, let alone the famous Western lawyer defending the suspect." Pevita.

"Oh, Lexan Parker."

"Don't take it, Lexan Parker is a paltry thing! You know, that diamond we stole?! He took it back!" Jerky Pevita.

"Jeez Pevita, no matter how good she is. Thomson can still be a winner." Charles.

"How did you know?" Ask Pevita.

"Robert is just a small citizen, of course everyone in court will assume Robert deliberately did that for certain reasons that the judge believed. Don't you? You agree, don't you?" Charles was convincing.

"Hmm .. I agree with you. Lexan will definitely lose in court." Aimee agreed.

One room was filled with laughter, because of the words of Lord Charles.

Pevita held her chin. "Is Thomson so trusted by Westerners?"

"I'll send a spy to convince you, Madam Pevita." Tawar Jhon was one of those who did not laugh at the words of Lord Charles.

"True, do that. You're more convincing than Charles who's only speech capital." Pevita looked at Charles cynically.

Charles, upset, put down a coarse glass.

"Why do you want to find out about Thomson's murder, Madam?" Ask Jhon.

"Send me your best spy, I'll tell you later."
