Maya pinches her thigh to let her cry subside, but no matter how much Maya pinches herself, the pain is not worth the sadness she feels now.
"Now I'm going to tell you a little bit about Maya's childhood. As a child, Maya was always alone and never wanted to play with a child her age, I don't know why it could be like that. But one thing is for sure, he is happy in his own time. Was it when you were with Maya that she was angry or laughing with you?" ask Grandpa Maya who is still asleep limp in her bed.
"Yes, you could say that. We laugh at each other when we remember the times we hunt monsters and we sometimes reproach each other when someone does something stupid."
"Both of those things are something that Maya rarely shows to anyone other than me, I'm not wrong to ask you to look after Maya. When I die later, please bury me near this hut yeah, Son Daya," Grandpa Maya looked at Daya's eyeballs.
"Why are you doing this, Cake? What am I supposed to tell Maya when she thinks her grandfather will recover tomorrow and dies? Just imagine I can't!"
Maya's cry that had subsided again exploded after hearing the words that Power was saying. Maya held back the sound that came out of her mouth as much as possible.
"Maya is a smart kid, Son of Power. Just explain it to him and I'm sure he'll understand."
Power did not answer Grandpa Maya's request, Daya could only lower her head withholding tears that would wet her cheeks. Seeing the reaction of Daya, Grandpa Maya just smiled looking at her, Grandpa Maya felt both happy and sad at the same time. The baby seems lost seeing Maya now has a friend who will protect her and Maya can become what she dreams of.
Maya still shed her tears, the clothes and cloth that became the base wet from the tears that flowed down her. Maya's mind moved forward and backward. He thought about tomorrow without his grandfather, and he remembered his childhood.
*Flashback Maya Childhood.
Several months have passed since Grandpa and Maya moved into a bamboo hut, their hut is still nice and there are no plants in the yard. Maya was five years old at the time, but with a young age, Maya had many through obstacles that approached her. It appears Maya is helping her Grandfather cook a handful of rice for both of their breakfasts. After the rice became rice, Grandpa put all the rice into Maya's plate. Maya furrowed her brows at what her Grandfather had done.
"Why did Grandpa put it all on Maya's plate? Grandpa didn't eat?" asked little Maya innocently.
"No, Son. Eat to make your little body big" Grandpa replied as he stroked Maya's short hair slowly.
Maya looks towards the plate with the white rice still puffing its steam in hand. For a few months Maya and Grandpa only ate white rice. Maya put the plate in her grasp and stood up. Grandpa was stunned to see what his grandson did, Maya stepped her feet slowly and her whereabouts were lost turning to the right room. When she returned, Maya brought an empty plate and placed half her rice onto the empty plate and gave it to her grandfather.
Seeing what his grandson was doing made Grandpa's heart so happy, Grandfather hugged Maya's small body tightly as he said,
"Ahhhh .. it's good that my grandson is ...."
"Aw, aw, sick cake!" whinek Maya feels claustrophobic with her Grandpa's embrace.
"Hahaha, let's eat. Sorry Grandpa can only buy you a handful of rice without any side dishes, Maya."
"It's okay, Grandpa."
"Grandfather promise when your birthday arrives, Grandpa will buy you some nice rice and side dishes," Grandpa promised in a serious tone.
Maya smiles at the promise her Grandpa gave and they both eat rice in front of her. After breakfast, Grandpa Maya goes to the front of her hut planning to make a place to plant tubers so Maya can eat them. Maya goes for a walk around the village near her hut. While walking, Maya meets a strange boy about five years her senior. The boy was carrying a toy sword and wearing a monster mask was competing like a swordsman.
The boy saw Maya coming and moved towards her. After getting close to Maya, the boy said,
"Hooooi girl, who is it?" ask the boy in an exaggerated tone.
"Maya," Maya replied with a strange look at her.
"Woooo ... Maya, are you a monster? If so, I will slash you with this sword! Cnb ... Hyah!" said the boy then swung his sword again cutting through the air.
"Of course not, what are you doing?" tanya Maya looked at the movements of the boy.
"I'm on patrol, if I see a monster then I'll be slashed with this sword" the boy replied in flames.
"Do you like swordsmen?" asked Maya curious about her behavior imitating the swordsman.
The boy stopped his strange movements for a few seconds. The boy raised his hand and opened the mask that covered his face, how shocked Maya was to see his face. The right part of the boy's face was broken with a slash wound extending across his left eye. Maya looks frightened when she sees him and feels unable to take her eyes off the boy's face.
"It's because of the King and the damn warriors!" exclaimed the boy in a very angry tone.
Maya did not return her words, her attention was still distracted with the horrible face that the boy was suffering from.
"I know, you must be disgusted by my face, don't you?"
"Ah .. Sorry, I didn't mean to insult you. I was just keget looking at it, if I may know why the warriors and the King did that? Is it because you can't pay taxes?" ask Maya after being able to control her fear.
"It turns out you already know, have you also felt the King's vices?" ask the boy while putting his mask back on.
"Yes, both of my parents have been killed by the warriors whom the King had sent," Maya replied in a poignant tone recalling the screams and pain her parents suffered when they were killed.
"I'm so sorry, did you see him kill your parents?"
"No, I just heard the screams of my mom and dad. A very bitter scream of extreme pain."
Maya again remembered the death of her parents, sadness and anger flowed back in her. Looking at the sad Maya, the boy clasped Maya's hand and pulled her slowly said,
"Let's follow me, I'll show you something that might ease your pain."
