The cafe closed faster today. I was tired because of the incident this afternoon plus Merina who did not go to work and cake who stayed a little, then at six I closed the cafe early.
When me, Evelyn and Elena's sister say goodbye to each other. My eyes caught the figure of a man standing leaning against a black car parked not far from my cafe. Man with a full-fledged office suit.
"What's that jerk here for?" evelyn said beside me.
"Who's that handsome guy?" elena asked Evelyn. I just kept quiet and watched Marcus start walking towards us.
"Shelina's ex-boyfriend and future stepdaughter."
Evelyn had to say it so frontally. Although it does not matter if Elena's sister knows who Marcus is but combining the words ex-boyfriend and prospective stepchildren in one sentence sounds strange and annoying.
"You guys want to go home?" Marcus is standing in front of us.
"What are you doing here? If you just want to insult or ridicule Shelina, you better go home." Ketus Evelyn's.
"Evelyn," said Elena.
"Yes, the cafe closed early" Elena replied to Marcus' question earlier.
"What's wrong?" Marcus coming here must have had a purpose. He smiled broadly. A smile that can sedate the hearts of women. And sure enough, from the corner of my eye, I caught both Elena and Evelyn who were fascinated with Marcus.
"Pick you home."
Evelyn snorted in disbelief and Marcus immediately looked at her sharply.
"Have I ever done anything wrong to you? Did we know each other before? Why do you look so dislike me?"
Evelyn's eyes widened, I'm sure if it didn't stop her, the girl would have lunged at Marcus and shouted furiously. I know Evelyn very well, she was very defensive and loved me.
"Talk him my best friend, Evelyn Diandra. And she's Elena's sister" I said, introducing them.
After a brief handshake Marcus offers a ride to drive Evelyn and Elena's sister home. But Elena refused because her lover had already picked her up. Just as Evelyn was about to refuse, I quickly grabbed her hand and made her walk towards Marcus' car. The woman rebelled but I kept her mouth shut and told her to come with us so she could cut the fare.
We're on our way to Evelyn's bunk house. Marcus just kept quiet and listened to some of my chats with Evelyn. The woman sat alone in the back seat. When the car stopped at the red light Marcus said.
"What if we eat first?"
I was immediately enthusiastic and looked at Evelyn in the hope that she would also come along. But the woman shook her head.
"No, Angel must've been waiting for me at home."
I was disappointed, too bad. Suddenly I was excited.
"What if we take Angel out to eat, too? I'm sure he'll like it."
"Yes, just take her." Timpal Marcus.
I nodded enthusiastically and looked at Evelyn with eyes that sparkled expectantly.
"But.." There was doubt in Evelyn's eyes.
"Just calm down, I'll deal." Marcus seemed to understand Evelyn's turmoil and said so without taking his eyes off the road.
"So, we'll pick up Angel first."
"Yes!" I spoke with Evelyn. We looked at each other and laughed together.
I'm sure Angel would love to be invited to eat out. Evelyn rarely took the little girl to eat at restaurants. Marcus just smiled faintly hearing my happy screams and furore with Evelyn. I'm glad Marcus' evil side disappeared these few days. He looks a lot warmer, just like the Marcus I knew five years ago.
Now the three of us were climbing the stairs to Evelyn's bunk house. Until finally standing in front of the third door on the fourth floor of this building that has been opened. Me and Marcus are waiting outside because the house belongs to neighbor Evelyn — aunt Sonya. And Angel usually plays there during Evelyn's work.
"Thank you aunt Sonya took care of Angel. He must be a big deal."
"No, she's an independent little girl and made me take care of Adel."
"Come say goodbye to aunt Sonya and Adel." With Angel kissing Adel's cheek, the two-year-old toddler also says goodbye to Sonya's aunt.
Then we walked first to Evelyn's house next to Sonya's aunt's. Since then, Marcus has been watching Evelyn and Angel. Good thing Evelyn's flat is tidy at the moment, otherwise I'm sure she must be a drunk because Marcus also entered the flats.
"Wait a minute, I'll change. Shelina please help Angel change clothes. Just pick one of the clothes in Angel's closet." The woman went straight into the room. This apartment is small and has only one room. I left Marcus and Angel sitting on the floor in the middle of the room and walking to Angel's closet in the corner to pick up Angel's clothes.
"Om very handsome." I smiled at Angel's words. Marcus did not answer. Maybe he was puffing his chest right now because he was being praised by the little girl.
"Whose name?"
I got Angel's suit and approached them. I smiled looking at Angel who was staring at Marcus enthusiastically.
"First, you can't call me Om, call brother understand." I immediately clucked in disbelief.
"Remember your age Marcus, I'm younger than you and I don't protest to be called aunty." My hand helped Angel to take off her clothes. This little girl can actually be alone but it will be faster if I help her.
"He called you aunty?" marcus asked as he looked at me and Angel alternately. And Angel nodded.
"All right, you can call me Om. Name Om, Marcus Cho, you can call me Om Marcus." Then we fell silent and I helped Angel put on the clothes I had taken. I noticed Marcus's eyes looking at me and Angel. Very long and intense makes me feel uneasy too.
"What's wrong? Why are you staring at us like that?" My head turned to Marcus for a quick glance and helped Angel button up her shirt.
"You look like a mother and a son." My hands that buttoned Angel's clothes stopped.
"You can definitely be a good mother, Shelina." My heart warms to hear his words. This is the first time a man has said that. I'm not even sure if I can be a good mother or not.
Is there a child who would be born out of the womb of a prostitute like me? I'm afraid my son will experience the same thing as me when I was a kid. Gets scorn and humiliation just for having a prostitute mother. The boy was completely innocent and did not deserve that insult.
My eyes immediately warmed up. I really wanted to have a child but my fear was much greater. I'm afraid I can't be a good mother, I can't protect my son, I can't prevent the views and insults of others.
My tears gather and almost fall if I don't quickly raise my head. Luckily I was done helping Angel, so I got up and went to the bathroom. My tears immediately trickled as I stood up and turned my back to Marcus and Angel. I don't want that man to see my tears, he will surely mock me who is so weak and fragile.
I closed the bathroom door and calmed down. Breathing regularly so that my tears stop immediately and think of other beautiful things so that I forget my sadness.
