Magic Lantern
Darren

Darren was Tania's first friend in New Zealand. Invite him to a social meeting at his house. They quickly became familiar with each other.

Even though their faculty is different. But it does not hinder the friendship between them.

Talking to Darren was fun. History courses being studied. Provides a lot of insight and interesting information.

Darren invited him to his house. They want to see the movie Marie Antoinette.

Tania responded after going home from college and before leaving for work.

Darren just arrived from his college. When Tania reached her house.

“Come in..”

“Ok! Thank you.”

Darren opens the door to his house and they enter Darren's house which is quite spacious.

Darren lives with his friend who is already working. The atmosphere of the house looks quiet and deserted.

Tania sat on the sofa of the living room where the television and cd player were.

Darren's headed for the kitchen. Remove the chocolate cake from the refrigerator. Pour the juice into the glass. Take a can of soft drink for himself.

“You love French history very much. I found this phenomenal movie at the rental place.” Darren said putting a row of chocolate cake with a plastic cutting knife, two cake plates and a small fork. A glass of orange juice and a can of soft drink less sugar.

“History of France is very interesting.”

“All interesting history.”

“That's because you're so history maniac.”

Darren laughed in agreement.

“Yeah, I've been obsessed with history since childhood. History is a magnet in my life.”

“Yeah.”

“Why do you like French history so much?”

“The French Revolution was inspired by the American revolution. The history of the French Revolution is very interesting. The French Revolution was a correction of the absolutism of the king's power. Most interestingly, Napoleon corrected the absolute power of king XVI and executed Maria Antoinette with a guillotine. But he himself got caught up in the same absolutism and ended up in the exile of the island of Elba.”

“Fascism is often a package with power. Sharing power is not easy. Rome suffered its destruction precisely because of the system of division of power. Because it is done by a group of people who do abuse of power. The oligarchy is crystallized into absolutism of power.

“Power control is supposed to be one with power sharing.”

“In theory but in reality. Power control is very closely related to the integrity of the power control holder itself.”

“Maria Antoinette worsens the economic condition of French society.”

“Yeah, the anger of the French people delivering his head to the decapitated device, guillotine.”

Darren filmed the film Maria Anntoinette. They also watched the movie late.

Tania's phone rang. Tania remained focused on watching the film in front of her.

“You didn't lift it?”

Tania shook her head.

“Why?”

“Not important.”

“Is the same person who called you during a social meeting at my house last weekend?”

“How do you know?”

“Just guess.”

“Yeah. It’s him.”

“But why? You don’t have to answer my question.”

“I don’t want to mess my life. That’s all.”

“Maybe you should tell more clearly.”

“He was my best friend fiancee.”

“I see's. But was?”

“Their relationship didn’t work.”

“So?”

“I don’t know.”

“What’s that got to do with you?”

“Maybe I caused their relationship to end.”

“Are you stone your best friend fiancee?”

“I didn’t mean it.”

“First of all. No one can steal love, darling.”

Tania looked towards Darren.

“Second, you can't force love. The last, love has their time period.”

“You never know how long you will feel it. Temporary or forever.”

“I don’t get it.”

“You are afraid things won’t work.”

“Yeah.”

“But you have to find out. That’s the only way to know.”

“I disagree.”

“How come?”

“If something feels not right. Just hold on. Wait for it to pass.”

They are back in the movie Maria Anntoinette. Fourteen years old married to the King. She was very young when she became Queen. Twenty years has not been a legend. Beheaded at the guillotine.

“How exactly is the historical literature about the French revolution?” Tanya Tania squatted her feet on the carpet after they finished watching the movie.

“The feudal government of France divides society into three. The first group were Kings and Nobles. The second group are landlords and religious leaders. The third group is ordinary people. The first and second groups pay no taxes while the third group is taxed. They asked the King to impose taxes on the first and second classes but this desire was rejected outright by the King. They can't correct much less dispute the King because the law is the King. Absolutism power. Fascism.” Answer Darren.

“You mean the French people were under great pressure?”

“Yeah, the debt is huge. The raised tax. Poor crop yield. Working without pay. Hunger and poverty everywhere. Not yet added the moral crisis of the church leader.”

“Yeah, the pressure on the French people is too great. They are not just as cash cows paying taxes without acquiring balanced rights. Discrimination. Hunger and poverty.”Tania Sahut.

The pressure of poverty and hunger that afflicted the French people sparked their anger. Plus the bad harvest makes them vent it on the lifestyle of Maria Anntoinette who is wasteful, gamblers, socialites, likes to collect luxury goods.

“France back then was like in a big dilemma.” Darren.

“Yeah, not to mention the moral crisis of the church.”

“Maria Anntoinette accused of incest with her son?” Ask Tania.

“That's the incitement of a journalist who hates Maria Anntoinette so much and likes to criticize her. That's not true.” Answer Darren.

“What was clear at that time the people of France were very angry and could not be controlled.”

“Even before the revolution, Louis XVI had agreed to remain king even if only a symbol. But eventually the monarchy was overthrown and the French Republic stood. They had been in a state of chaos for a year.” Connect Darren.

“Yeah. Until they dump Napoleon to the island of Elba.”

“But indeed the French revolution, renaissance and aufklarung is the forerunner to the emergence of democracy.”

“I still want to chat with you but I have to get ready to work.”

“Yeah, nice to chat and spend time with you.”

“Yeah, me too. See you again.”

“Sunday meet again.”

Darren drives Tania to her garage. Tania took her bike. Take her out of the garage and pedal her while waving her hand at Darren.

Tania paddled her bike towards her house. At home, clean himself up. Pray and get ready to work in his small car.

Maryam exited the house walking to her car.

“You forgot your provisions.”

“Thank you. Kamila is home, right?”

“So was sleeping in her room. Why?”

“Yesterday a man asked. Put something for him. It's in my room. I forgot to give it to her?”

“Good. What's the title like?”

“Box with pink gift wrap with ribbon. I put it under my bed.”

“Good. I'll let you know he's up.”

“Ok, thank you.”

They wave each other's hands. Since she shared the house with Kamila and Maryam. The house feels more comfortable and clean.

In addition to cleaning the house. They also alternate cooking. The house also did not feel as quiet as before.

Tania is very lucky to find housemates who can fill and entertain each other. Like friends and brothers.
