The residents' houses were on a plateau higher than the forest that spread green in front of him. So from the village, it is clear how wide the flat forest with decorated with various lush trees.
The villagers looked friendly. Every resident greeted us. We saw some kids playing a traditional game. A child of Fanze's age approached him.
"Hey! Play, yuk!" bring the child cheerfully.
"May not, sister Iza?" fanze asked cautiously for fear of being scolded again.
Iza looked at me as if asking for my opinion using sign language.
"It's okay, Dane, Za. All the kids here are good" Shanty said convincingly.
"But don't go far, yeah! Your mother will be angry with me again!" Iza said to his nephew.
Fanze nodded and went to play with the other village children.
We arrived at Shanty's house.
"Shanty, where are your parents?" I was spontaneous when we went into his house.
He paused for a moment before saying, "They're dead."
"Oh! I'm sorry Shan. I didn't mean ...," I said sorry.
"It's okay. Both my parents died long ago. When I was five years old," he said with a smile.
"Who are you staying with?" ask Siman.
"My grandmother" she answered. "Sit. I'll call Grandma first!" saith.
The three of us sat on a long wooden chair that was inside that simple stilt house.
The house is not big. Only has a room, in the corner there is a bed bed that blends with the living room, and there is a door that leads to the back of the house. There seems to be a kitchen there.
"It looks like my grandmother is out. You guys wait here. I'll look for him."
Shanty came out of the house and looked for his grandmother in the direction of the bamboo grove behind the house that I had seen earlier.
Shortly after, a grandmother came into the house. The grandmother carried a wooden stick with a very beautiful carving. The handle was oddly shaped, gold-colored - and it seemed like it was indeed gold - with red, purple, and green gems. The clothes he was wearing looked strange, layered. From black dress, white scarf, checkered turban, batik fabric. Everything was wrapped around his body and neck so that the grandmother with the short body looked very fat. His white hair was neat.
"Who are you?" tanyanya was surprised to see us.
"We're friends of Shanty's" replied Siman.
"Now where is he?"
"So I saw Shanty behind the house. He said he wanted to find Grandma" I said.
The grandmother walked straight into the kitchen. He shouted to Shanty from there.
"Miss, let me call Shanty," I told him.
"Oh yeah, please yeah."
"You wait here" I command Siman and Iza.
I walked to the back of the house. I saw there were many banana tree trunks planted on pointed bamboo that was set on the ground.
"Shanty!"
I walked into the bamboo grove. Suddenly there was a loud noise from behind the trees. The sound was getting heard from various directions. Makes me creep.
"Hey!"
Two palms instantly slapped my shoulders from behind as the voice shocked me half to death. I turned around and saw the girl laughing contentedly looking at my terrified expression.
"Funny? Huh!"
I crossed both arms in my chest.
"Sorry! Pardon me! You're fucking dumb. Watch out for trance," he said chuckling.
"That's it!" my annoyance. "Your grandmother is home."
"Oh, yeah! Then we go home," he pulled my arm.
"Shan, wait a minute! I want to ask you something."
"What?"
"What are these banana tree trunks for?"
"For my training" he answered.
"Exercise?"
"I've always practiced boxing on those banana tree trunks."
"You like violence, huh?" my wonder.
"No. That's what I do to defend myself."
"Defend yourself from what? Is there a bad guy here? Or is there a young man who's always been naughty to you?" manya curious.
"Not a bad guy. But something evil."
"Huh? What's?"
"Ah, stop! Forgetit! Let's go back home!"
"Mom, where have you been? I was looking for it" said Shanty.
"Not many stale bases! Where's my order?" his grandmother was firm.
Shanty gave a small brown pouch to his grandmother. I don't know what it is.
"Now you get them a drink! Do you want to abandon your friends?!" her grandmother said so loudly.
He sat down on a rocking chair in front of us.
"Yes! Aye! A minute!"
Shanty went to the kitchen. Soon he returned with a few bamboo cups filled with water.
"Here we go! I'm sorry, we don't have anything." Shanty put the glass on the table in front of us. "Please drink! This is the best water here. You guys must like it."
We drank. There is a natural sweetness to the water.
"What's this?" ask Siman.
"Sugar water."
Siman and Shanty were busy chatting together, Iza was playing games on her phone, while I was just daydreaming while occasionally drinking the sugar cane. I realized that grandma kept looking at me weird. I'm used to everyone looking at me that way because of my physique. But this grandmother's gaze was different. Like Kurynia looked at my face last time. Many times I ignored his gaze but my eyes could always glance at his eyes.
"Say you want to see this village. I'll show you the beautiful places in this village" Shanty said.
We follow what he says.
We went to see the village as a whole.
"Where are we going?" my many.
"Black forest" he answered. "Don't you want to see that forest."
We walked down the dirt ledge towards a wide river. I saw Fanze and the other village children playing among the large rocks on the edge of the river.
On the other side of the river, the beautiful forest was. The towering looking pine trees scratched the sky.
"How do we get there?" my many.
"There is no bridge here, so we just cross this river" Shanty replied.
"Is it not inside?" ask Iza who finally wants to talk to Shanty. His face always looked jealous and envious.
"No. Only knee-length," Shanty replied after a moment of silence. He took off his shoes and began to enter the river. "Come on!"
We all took off our shoes and walked past them.
"It's so beautiful here" I said in amazement.
I observed a forest this beautiful. This bright and green. The sunlight entered freely into the forest through the cracks of the trees. It looks like a shining curtain.
"You think so?" ask Shanty.
"of course. Don't you think this is beautiful?"
"If there had never been 'them' this place would have been even more beautiful," said Shanty slowly staring blankly into the forest.
"They?"
Shanty looked at me sharply. Seeing the seriousness in my face.
"Forget it!" he laughed a little. "I'll show you a more beautiful place."
We're following.
He's headed for a big mound of rocks. It almost forms a small hill. On top of the mound of stones was a wide stone that was flat like a table.
The four of us walked up the small stones that formed a step towards the stone table above it.
"This is where I used to relax and sleep every morning while hearing the chirping of birds and the rippling of river water. It always keeps my body fresh. From here we can see the whole forest quite clearly!" shanty exclaimed looking at the green sea of trees.
"It's beautiful here. But if you sleep on a rock this afternoon instead of fresh even my skin will ripen!" chirps Siman.
The four of us sat down on the leaves because the stone burned the skin. The atmosphere was quite shady this afternoon.
I enjoy the beauty of the forest.
Siman and Shanty kept chatting together. Talk about things they like. Early approach to a relationship.
Iza was busy photographing the forest with her cell phone camera.
"Shan," I called to stop their conversation. "What mountain is it?" I pointed at a mountain that stood far away in front of us.
"It was Transfranssischo Mountain" Shanty replied.
"Trans ... Trans ...," said Siman confused.
"Transfranssischo," Shanty said.
"Suppit. But it seems like the name is too cool to name a mountain."
"Or maybe it's too weird" Shanty added. "But, ever since our village was built, the name of the mountain has been so. And ...," Shanty seemed heavy to say. Take a deep breath and breathe it out slowly. "My parents mysteriously disappeared eleven years ago as they climbed the mountain. As the villagers searched for them, only a few strands of clothing were found when they left and the camp equipment was filled with blood-stained black liquid on the edge of the cliff. Everyone thought they were both dead. Either fall into a ravine, be pounced on by a wild beast, or something else even more sinister."
Dugm!
It was like a blunt object hit my spine and made it crack. There are two things that make my heart not calm.
First, I'm so sorry. Why is it that every time I ask something else, it has something to do with something else that leads to other people's feelings. My question is like a puzzle that if we start from anywhere, the end result remains the same to lead to one goal. From the outside, Shanty did not look sad. But from the inside, I knew that she was crying.
Second, Siman must have been unaware of some of Shanty's odd-sounding words but felt familiar to my ears. 'Black water smells of blood' and 'something more evil' to me those two sentences seemed to rub me closer together.
Something I'm looking for might be right next to the head. But I haven't been able to unravel it clearly even though the bird's trail is getting visible.
