Arriving at home, Salma immediately cleansed himself and prayed magrib with Mother because the Father and Gani prayed in the mosque.
After the prayer, Salma and Mom went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
“So noon someone came to propose, he did not graduate from college because he chose not to continue his studies. We reject it.” Say Mother.
While Salma was still in the hospital, someone came to the house to convey his good intentions who wanted to propose to Salma. Although he looks good, has a job and is not a person who lives in this village, but because he is not a scholar, Father and Mother agreed to reject him. In addition to wanting someone who is not from the same village as them, Salma's parents also have certain standards to become his son-in-law, including having to undergo the same minimum education as his daughter.
“Why did you refuse?” Salma finally shut up after being silent for a moment.
“He is not a scholar.”
Salma felt her heart whimper, hearing her mother say she rejected someone because she was not a scholar. What about Malik? He's undergraduate? Have a job, why get rejected? Just because he's a village?. His heart was soft but he could not say the words he had strung together in his mind.
“What?” Instantly his lips blurted.
“Why? Is he your acquaintance?” Ask Mom.
It was not that the person who proposed it was someone he knew, but that Salma had already felt tired enough to follow his feelings. Salma wants to accept others even though now she has not forgotten Malik. He thought Malik had forgotten about it, then he should too soon. Maybe by getting married sooner, he will forget his first love. But why did his parents take the opportunity? Salma exhaled violently.
“Don't Mom tell me to get married? Why did you refuse?” Salma desperately dared not look at her mother.
“Iya, but we also have to choose.”
Salma had already opened her mouth to say something, but had stopped from hearing someone say a greeting from outside.
“Assalamu’alaikum.”
“Wa’alaikumussalam.”
Mother opened the door she thought was her son and husband coming from the mosque, while Salma was left alone and before long she also moved to her room.
Arriving at his room, Salma sat himself on the edge of the bed. While staring aimlessly around him, he felt his heart cramped. Remembering Malik who ignored him and Tari who said that he was close to someone who up to the moment still shadowed him. “What should I do.” Salma whimpering.
He did not want to marry a man he did not love even more unknown. But it seems that the desire can not be held forever, Salma realized the world is not all going according to his will. He again reminded himself of the belief that had been held firmly, that God must give all the best. “I can definitely, Malik I must be happy.” Salma nodded as if she had been heard by Malik.
“Where's dad?” Mother asked when she opened the door for Gani but did not get a father with her son.
“Father is still on the road.”
“Oh.”
Gani comes in and Mom closes the door again. Father used to come home late because he talked to the people here or there are other needs.
“De, father not home yet?” Salma asked as she returned to the kitchen and only saw Gani and Mother.
Gani nodded.
“You just eat first, the father will probably be long. Do you know if your father is talking? Like to forget the time” Say Mother.
“Come to eat.” He continued to rule his two children but he himself moved from his seat.
“Where are you going?” Ask Gani.
“Mom can't eat without your father. You guys go first.” Mom walked to the front room.
“We eat with our parents then.” Salma.
“Do you not understand mom told you to eat first?” She stopped her steps and saw her two children.
Salma and Gani look at each other.
“Oh well we ate first. Come on deck.”
Mother reasoned to ask her child to eat first so that she ate with the father without being disturbed by anyone.
“Kak.” Gani silenced in the middle of his meal.
“Iya?” Salma saw her sister.
“I'm going to college out of town, I might stay at uncle's house or spend time.”
Gani nodded.
“Campus where your sister's college used to be quite good and even better than the campus you want to choose it. Are there any majors you want to take that are not on campus near here?”
“Not so, I just want a new atmosphere.”
Gani chooses to study at a distant campus so that she does not often meet Sarah. He had already decided and thought it was the best decision for him to stay away from Sarah.
“Have you spoken to your father?”
“Already, they allow.”
“Alright, although little brother feels heavy. But brother always supports you.” Salma smiled at Gani.
“Oiya, actually we met Malik.” Gani lowered her voice.
“Oh.” Salma was not so surprised because she had told Malik to go home.
“Father asked him to talk.” Gani.
“What are the fathers talking about?”
“I was asked to go home first. Maybe now the father is still with him.”
“What?”
His heart was beating faster. His mind floated, thinking of what the Father had said to Malik. The Father who has not come home until now and has long frightened him. “What father talks about the no-no?” Her thought. Salma was worried that the father said that he could not forget Malik or.malah scolded Malik for making him unable to forget. “Ah what's up?” Thought kalut.
“Assalamu’alaikum.” The voice of the father knocked on the door.
Mother was heard opening the Father's door.
The father went into the kitchen and was followed by the mother. “So where?” Ask Mom when they get to the dinner table.
“I stopped by the house of sir sobirin.” Answer Father.
Hearing that Salma saw Gani, but she got no reply. Gani did not look at him. “Sgratitude.” His mind felt a little relieved.
‘’’’’
Malik is making his bed. He tugged at his bed sheet to make it look neater. He always tidied up his place especially his room so that he could rest comfortably. After finishing making her bed, she chose to sit down beside her bed. He sat down and looked around his room looking around for something that was not yet neatly arranged, but he did not find it. Everything looks so in tune.
Malik remembered when he met the kades who were none other than Salma's parents after the prayer.
He accidentally met while out of the musholla, saw the kades sir and Gani, Malik said hello.
“Pak, Gani.” Say hello to Malik, then turn around to go home.
But at once his steps stopped, his heart beating unbecause of hearing Salma's parents calling him. Since a year ago, the Father has never once asked him to talk like before. Therefore, it was only natural that he felt unusual when he was called back.
Malik saw the Father again.
The father asked Gani to go first. Hearing the Father's command, Gani immediately complies. Now there is only Malik and Father.
“When are you home?” Ask the Father as before, the question sounded friendly in Malik's ears.
“Partime sir.”
“Oh. Let's talk relaxed like we used to. Honestly, even though I don't want you to be a son-in-law, but my father likes you. Don't feel shy let alone away.” The father smiled at Malik.
Malik did not answer, but he also saw the Father and smiled.
“Good father first.” The father patted Malik on the shoulder before making his move.
“Iya sir.” Malik showed his respect.
Malik thought, Such a Father just wants to get back on good terms with him. This doesn't change anything about his relationship with Salma. He still doesn't get the blessing.
