The awaited night arrived. Last night we held the status of High School students. Either I should be sad or happy, because I feel both. Sad, because I had to part with my dear friends, and happy because everything I have fought for has paid off.
I came to the meeting hall, where the event was held with my classmates. It seems that everyone is so happy, even though they do not know whether they graduated or not. Even for those who feel graduated, they do not have any plans in the future. They just enjoy what is going on. I'm so envious.
The building is almost full of other 12th graders. And our classes lined up neatly in the space provided. Me, Kurnia, Ahmad and Harry stood in front of the class, along with six others. Including Deni, who was humiliated by Ahmad this afternoon.
Everything went according to plan. A sense of happiness and pride melted into one when my name was called as the student with the best grades by Mr. Principal.
After the show, all my friends congratulated me. Not only classmates, friends I don't know very well congratulate.
All the children flocked to the dining room. Instead of marching, Ahmad pulled me away from the line.
"Congratulations, yes," he said as he stuck out his right hand.
"You congratulate me mulu," I said as I welcomed his hand. "How many times have you tried, you said congratulations?"
Ahmad laughing. A box was taken out from behind his body.
"What's this?" my many.
"Something that can make you want to continue with me" replied Ahmad.
"I can't take it, Mad."
"Why?"
"I...."
"Consider it as a farewell greeting. This is really sincere. I won't ask for anything with you. You leave tomorrow. I can't see you anymore."
"And we can still video call" I said.
"Yes, this is just for your ngingetin, if you're busy just inget me."
I doubtfully accepted the box. I open slowly. A woman's watch with strap material of imitation leather is black.
I took off my own watch made of stainless steel. I put up a gift watch from Ahmad. And I put my watch in the box from him.
"Thank you, yes," I said sincerely.
She smiles. The same smile with a smile that stunned me until I entered the UKS because I was hit by a basketball throw. The same smile that made me rush out of the toilet because I met him. The same smile that could make me smile all day if I saw him in the library. Now, however, that smile could not even distract me from a man who was looking at us. Harrys.
"Follow ngantri, yuk," I asked Ahmad.
I tried to avoid Harry's hostile gaze. Ahmad was trailing behind me. Nothing we talked about until dinner was over.
"Should Ahmad love you?" kurnia whispered as we walked out of the building together.
"No."
"Why do you two talk? Pake the event is given all gifts," said Kurnia.
"Om, since when did you become a kepo?" sindirku.
"not kepo. Let's just say if there's anything you're gonna do, I can answer."
"The answer is 'no, '" I said.
"But she likes you, Ri."
"I know."
"What are you, he said, not real. How do you know if he likes you? It's not clear" Kurnia said confusedly.
"He said, um, when I broke up with Harry. She said she's messy why she didn't know I liked her."
"Continue?"
"What continues? If you keep crashing!"
"What do you mean, Rinjani?" Kurnia clenched her teeth in annoyance.
I laugh. Once upon a time, no sin, right?
"Yes, how else. I don't like him anymore. I'm just nagging him," I said.
"Don't you like Ahmad?"
"Yes. But now it's expired."
"Where is love expired," grunts Kurnia.
"Your love with Fitri may not have expired it. But my love for Ahmad is already past his term."
"Don't take him, Om. I've closed all my memories to him since he betrayed me."
"You know what, Ri? I don't think anything's right with him."
"I don't care" I said.
"Eh, what are you guys doing?" suddenly Ahmad was walking along with our steps.
"We want to burn in front of the cottage" replied Kurnia.
"Can you join?" tanyakanya.
"Aren't you joining your friends?" ask Kurnia. Although they were one organization, but there was a tone of objection in Kurnia's voice.
"Most later malems," replied Ahmad lightly.
I laugh.
"You're not ashamed, let's join us" I asked.
And sure enough, Ahmad would rather join my classmates than be with his classmates.
I helped find dried coconut leaves to make campfire. Unintentionally, I saw a body sitting by the beach hugging my knees, alone. Focused my eyes. That's right, it's Harry! What was he doing there by himself while staring at the sea that was not even visible? My heart was tingled to get close to him, but self-esteem took my feet away from the place.
I don't know where my friends got corn to burn. For sure now in my hand there is a corn that gives off a seductive fragrance.
We sang along with the sound of a guitar played by Ahmad. He seems to be good at playing guitar.
🎶 Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only know
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words
is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say than you love me
'Cause I'd already know 🎶
More than words
I clapped.
"You likey?" ahmad asked as he sat on the sand beside me.
"Like. I didn't know you played guitar" I said with a smile.
Her eyes were staring at me from behind her glasses. I immediately turned my eyes. Pretending to be busy with corn in my hand.
"Tap me with your anther to the station, yes," he asked.
"Don't. Later even ngerepotin. The train schedule is malem," I refused.
"No pa pa pa, let me calm down, don't think you continue."
Oh my God, Mad. If you had behaved like this while I still loved you, I would never have left here. If only..
No one's sleeping in a cottage tonight. We all spent time singing and burning corn. May it be a great memory for all of us.
Early in the morning we went back to Bandung. This time there was no one singing or joking like when we left. All the children chose to sleep in their seats.
The journey was not felt at all. We feel the Anyer-Bandung journey is just a blink of an eye. Before I go home, I say goodbye to all the teachers who taught me in this school. Nor did he forget to ask for his blessing all for my future. It was sad when the teachers hugged me in turns.
"What time are you leaving, Ri?" ask Kurnia.
"Most delapanan hours. You see, the situation of Ahmad if his nganterin is too malem. If the train is leaving at twelve o'clock, more than a few minutes," I replied.
"Let's go home, okay?" permission of the Om.
"Yes, go to the house. I'm so happy that you want to take your time."
"Anything with Harry?"
"Build you don't have to come!" myrag.
